From your videos alone, I've gone from IJA to the Finn's back to Japan again! I love the personal perspective reviews and learning as you go. It's really helpful cheers from Canada 🫖☕🍁🙏🏾
Awesome channel!!. Played last weekend against a competitiveJapanese list with my Italians and I’m a rookie player with Italians. Think he ran 3 or 4 bamboo with some reg infantry and support weapons all heavy HE. It was a awesome game. I lost of course due rookie mistakes, like a couple of units getting hit with a banzai in the open. I could see all JPN bamboo list being a little cheese.
There is a way to get a 66% chance of being regular and that is you pay for the Kempeitai then so take advantage of the Show your Loyalty and so can re roll the green to regular roll if you don't get it the first time and said officer is 6 inches range from them. But I like my Naval militia squads as they are able to at least shoot and also can pack a LMG for even greater range over the Bamboo Spear Fighters. But you are right both of these units with a Kempeitai officer can make a very scary assault unit.
As with ANY extreme strategy in ANY game, the biggest downside to their continued existence is the requirement of having significant parts of your force dedicated to defeating them. Taking a Sherman Easy 8? What a shame, an M3 Stuart with 23 shots per turn would have really been more helpful? Went for a sniper team? Yeah, should have just spent that on mortar. It's not the the strat can't be beat, but that it sometimes feels like doing so requires you to lean equally into the extreme to do so.
You forgot to mention in the points comparison that fanatics is valued at 3pts per model and generally is considered a points sink when you have to pay for it in the competitive scene. An inexperienced SS soldier is 10pts with fanatics and has none of the buffs the spear fighter enjoys from its faction rules and the spear fighter is 5pts.
a lot of models but easy to speed paint/contrast paints due to minimal kit! Powerful, fun to watch them decimate opponents, easy to paint, what's not to love!
I mean history has shown us what wins. Some zealots running at you shouting Banzai VS a tripod/bi-pod mounted .30 caliber machine gun. Yes the charges worked early war but soon after not so much.
@@ccggeniusno it's literally because it doesn't work in real life. You just all get shot and die. Bolt action doesn't give guns anywhere near enough dice for gameplay reasons. Multiply shooting by 5x for all semi or fully automatic weapons in the game and you get a better approximation or real life, and suddenly being outnumbered 2 to 1 by guys with bamboo spears doesn't seem so bad, because they just all get cut down before they reach melee. This only works because of simplifications for tabletop. Nobody's running through machinegun fire with a stick and achieving anything
I have only one thing to say about this and it goes out to a community member who will know who he is when he sees this… BANZAI !!!!!!! Edit: These guys make me want to run Japanese but I will refrain as I already have Germans and United States. If I go deep deep into bolt action one day ? Imperial Japanese all the way and then it’s Bamboo spear fighters all day every day.
DRIVE THEM MEN! DRIVE THEM! BANZAAAAAI
YOUR EMPEROR IS WATCHING YOU! DO NOT SHAME HIM! BANZAIIIII!
This is the equivalent of the South Park episode with the Japanese whalers swarming SeaWorld on mass with spears and stabbing all the dolphins 😂

These videos got me started and now I like Bolt Action 100 times better than 40k

There's a guy in my local game shop that plays the Japanese surge.... he struggles to find opponents that will play him.

He says that in the video
'There can be no peace in the world until Japan is destroyed.'- President Truman

Seeing what they do i dont understand why schutzen from DAK are not allowed in compeditive play xD
Melee is almost surprisingly lethal and quick in bolt action.
There's worse out there in the hyper competive scene. Personally the biggest crime is the state of those models.

Well yeah, but that's only because they started running out of fanatics to run at you shouting Banzai. That is... not an issue in a tabletop game.

the bamboo spears have compleetly gone from competitive BA
Well there melee and will die to a howitzer and what do you do when a tank rolls in to them? Yeah at grenades but he should just make them Into vapor
Out of interest is there any bolt action games coming up?
They Are Green.
Should be banned from tournies
A lot of tournaments limit them to two squads. Along with Gurkas, flamethrower engineer vets, and daka Stuarts.
Banzaiiii!!!
I wont even play against them. Would rather pack up my stuff and go get a beer. They should be banned.
That happens a lot!
👶🍼
They should be restricted 0-1, but have a larger unit size of 20.
