I grew up growing this, but we never braised it, only in soups. Delicious. Chayote (the vegetable) is similar, a little thicker in density with a smoother consistency and doesn't disintegrate over time, wonderful in hot pot.

I have never seen this melon, and normally I never use fruit in my cooking. Thanks Judy for the explanation.
There’s no sweetness in it. It’s more like a cucumber in texture but blander.
