You know what makes your channel so good Mari? It's your awesome personality. Everybody that hikes the PCT shows hiking... duh... but you do it with flare! One note: Give you camera to your partner in crime so we can see YOU hiking once in awhile. Keep on trekking!!!!
Thanks, Dave, that’s very kind of you to say!
Enjoy your comments and your smile.... even though you are soooo tired and tortured by mosquitoes. Thanks for the Journey. Can't wait to start my PCT Journet this May! Yahoo!!!
“Good morning!” - now I just hear that in Mari voice.
I forget how long the PCT takes. Almost there and SO inspired by you. These vlogs are great!!
💖
Congratulations to both of you on your trip! Well done with your production. I really enjoyed watching.
Amazing❤️ wonderful photos, and indomitable spirit!
You are freaking hilarious! Facial expressions and laugh and that comment I’m not complaining just updating! Photography is great a really well put together series! Thanks and good luck!
This is great, looks like so much fun!
Nice video Mari. I am enjoying your adventure. Nice scenery along the the trail. I have been watching whimsical woman’s adventure in New Zealand. She is really enjoying her adventure. Congrats on making it to the half way mark.
I hope they make it!
Impressive. Thanks again for sharing the adventure. Just love the videos.
Cheers Michael!
Congrats on halfway there👊
goodness i love these videos.......
😊😊
Dang you all were nearly averaging 30 miles days on that stretch!
Thank you for the Sunday video. :)
Always enjoy your videos.
Thank you!!
These are really powering me through what can only be seen as an extremely laborious winter diapause before getting out there once more.
Spring will be here soon! 😊
half way. Most people can't image your long hikes. i sometimes do 6 miles near my house and feel it in my legs. That's without any gear. doing 30 miles or even 15 miles per day and sleeping on the ground is no joke.
Another awesome video! You and Nick put in big time miles per day! I can’t even imagine 30 miles a day 😝🥳
Now I can’t anymore either 😂
Sunday TV 👏👏👏👏
There is no mistaking a rattlesnake's rattle when you're out and about. You freeze in your tracks! It's an amazing and rare warning of impending doom in nature and a reminder that while things can hurt/kill you, most would rather not. A big cat on the other hand, won't give you a courtesy warning before attack, lol. When I was a paramedic (mostly in Texas), I never had any patients bitten by adult rattlesnakes. It was always the babies, who lack the ability to rattle and control venom, like you said. Those bites were critical emergencies, often ending in loss of limb or worse. Cheers!
Eek! So glad I didn't have to experience that first hand!
Coooooool...being a le to walk that amount in one day. Blessings
Great video!
Congrats! :)
... “that’s really a hard choice” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
👊😎...
Hi Mari & Nick.
I'm really enjoying your entire journey!!! But episode 23 & 24 are basically my backyard. I have been hiking these areas since I was eight, so 60 years now. What great memories to see you in these areas. And 30 mile days, AWESOME.
Btw, this year 2020, the February 1st snow report shows only 70% of normal at that date. About one half of last year this time. Been following alot of class of 2020 PCTers starting around March 1. Good year it looks like.
Thanks to countine to post. Just love it.
Yeah looks much different this year! Will be cool to see others do it all 😊
Love your choice of music. Congratulations on halfway 👍
Thanks Pamala!
Best day of the week, video Sunday!!💖😊🐶🐶
Yey!
You're videos are entertaining Mari cant believe you walked 29miles in one day phenomenal,Cali is a huge state over halfway and still not out of the state at this stage
Wow, sounds so painful! You have such perseverance. Scary about that rattlesnake!
Yeah my body didn’t like this part of the trail! But Canada was calling 😊
30 miles per day! Yowza!
You need to try on ULA OHM 2.0 in a large torso size with hipbelt adjusted to the shortest torso setting to get all the weight off your shoulders since you have a 19 inch torso measurement, see if solves your problems. Thanks for great video.
Another great video 👍 Every time I watch a video where the hikers are struggling to get a hitch , I wish I was there to give them a ride. 🤠 I’m going on vacation on the east coast along the AT . I hope I get a chance to give some AT hikers a hitch and a Beer .
That’s so sweet of you! Hope you get that chance to do trail magic!!
30 miles is appox 50km. Wow!! that's some serious hiking. I guess halfway point could be a bit demoralising and probably when one needs to re-address their reasons 'why?'. Another great update Mari..thanks.
Yes, it’s very important to have good ‘why’s’ if you want to finish!
Nice.
Well done Mari another great video. Did you happen to keep note of the off trail miles you had to do to go off trail & back to get in & out of towns, it would be very interesting to have some sort of idea of what that cumulative figure was. 👍🙂
I didn't, but it would be really interesting to know! I think probably at least 50..
Happy sunday Mari! I did not watch your gear wives, I don’t want to spoil the ending!
Great video as per usual Mari! I’ve been curious about this since your series started...
How do you navigate the trail properly? Have you ever gotten lost by taking a wrong turn? Do you have a map or online tool that tells you everything you need to know?
Good question! I (and most people out there) used an app called guthook. It's a gps map with all the info needed. There's also a good amount of signs. It was sometimes difficult in the snow, but for the most part, the trail was easy to follow.
Looking your vids...tip on sore and rough hands due to trekking poles...get yourself some bicycling fingerless gloves. They have padding in the palms while allowing you to still grip object. I use them all the time and they work great...LOL
Ah thanks good tip 😊
My husband and I love watching your videos; it’s nice to see couples hiking it together since that’s what we plan on doing. This may be a random question though lol what brand of shirt is the multi-colored one you wear in town? Lol it’s so pretty!
Hi Melinda! It’s from Smartwool. I just posted a video about all the clothes o wore! ua-cam.com/video/uO_kxa-e3OU/v-deo.html
Half way yeeha! I had wondered about the glass half empty effect that milestone might have on people. Thanks for mentioning it. I keep having to shake myself - that's 30 mile days, not 30kms. Impressive! Very important question about rattlesnakes: If they can control their venom how do they decide who gets a small dose and who gets a bigger shot? (Being more serious I suppose it has something to do with how frightened they are.) I get you Nick, about coffee. During 'long' tramps (2 weeks in the pre-Te Araroa era) in NZ, good coffee was the only thing I really missed. Yet another highly enjoyable video thanks Mari.
haha good question about the rattlesnakes! Glass half empty is a good analogy!
I have been thoroughly enjoying this journey. Do you still live in Marin Co.?
Glad to hear it! No, I live in New Zealand now 😊
I have a farming mini and see on yours that there are numbers on the screen as you hike. Are these GPS numbers? I don’t have good knowledge about all of the functions of my mini.
I had tracking on during the day, so it recorded my gps location at set intervals. I used it so my family could watch the progress and as a safety precaution. Honestly, I don’t think I knew all the things it could do either!
I forgot about your yellow rain jacket! Was it a good one? (30 effing miles a day! 🙀)
You must feel very nostalgic when editing your vids 🙂
Yeah no complaints with the jacket! Such a trip down memory lane :)
I am king to hike the PCT after corona and am scared
You mentioned critters in camp at night? How do you recommend storing food at night in areas that don't require bear cans? Do people hang food on the PCT?
Some people do hang food (we did sometimes) but most people sleep with their food in their tent... Worked out for the most part!
@@mari.johnson Thank you! Just wondered because no one talks much about it.
Seen any bears or mountain Lions.
What about sankes?
Garmin
What is the magnesium cocktail you all keep referring to?
It's Calm! geni.us/lFtU3c
Did Nick get his soles? What drama to be hiking 30 mile days toward a 1 hour window!
He did get them! Sorry to leave you hanging with that! I know, so crazy haha
When you reach the half-way point, are you happy or sad? Happy because you're half-way there? Or sad, because you're half-way done?
Both!
But what did you eat in Belden :D
haha very important question! I think I was really hungry because I didn't film anything. I got chicken and waffles (it's an American thing!) :)
Do you ever get like "stuff this I'm outta here"?
Nick was starting looking to look thinner
Nick looking like he's lost loads of weight in this one. Did I hear in one of the vlogs that his trail name was "tight buns"??!!
Yep, Tight Buns 😂
My the most liked video - (( MOUNTAIN CAMPING // New Zealand )) -- on our other videos - I'm watching with interest.. - Mari Johnson - Thanks - for the interesting video.
Here's a link to news story about another trekker with whom you may have shared the trail in northern California/Oregon.
www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/feb/09/wolf-california-oregon-scientists-endangered-species
Did you see her or her tracks?
Moaning about everything??
Why bother
