First time looking for bourbon on vacation in VA today. Went in an hr after the store opened and they didn't have it. However they randomly got an allocated drop as I walking out and I was the only one there. Walked out with an old fitz 17. Thanks for your love for bowman. I will find a single barrel
Catching up on older episodes I missed. About 2 months ago, I ran into the John J Bowman Single Barrel at Binny’s in Rockford, Illinois for around $55. Last week I went grocery shopping at Woodman’s in Rockford, Illinois. I stopped in their liquor store and saw 6 bottles of John J Bowman Single Barrel, limit 1. I bought one bottle for $45 and then went grocery shopping. On the way out, I looked in the liquor store and there was a different cashier. I went in and bought a 2nd bottle for $45. 😝 I have 3 bottles now on my shelf. 🥃
Have you guys had the cask strength ? Love to find it. John J Bowman love it found it once in my state and it was a state pick, it was very good. Cheers...
This is available all over where I am in Maryland for $55. It doesn't us sit on shelves though. It usually lasts a couple weeks and is a few more till is gets stocked again. I always keep a couple in the cabinet.
Like In & KY, I’m In Ohio & cannot find this anywhere; so end up trading bottles in FB groups to get more. It is so good. Not happy you posted this video as it will now become even harder to find the SiB. Lol! Seriously, great review though.
Bowman Brothers is the only Bowman product sold in the entire State of Florida and I am not sure why. It took me 2 years to find JJB Single Barrel and I have sourced all of it in Georgia and Tennessee. I just recently picked a case in Tn @ $51.99 a bottle. Currently sitting on nine botttles "NFS". I have Isaac, John, Bowman Bros, and still on the hunt for Abraham. You forgot to mention it is distilled a third time in a pot still in Va. Great stuff and in my top ten.
Hey fellas. When I did the distillery tour they confirmed the John J. was twice distilled distillate from their “sister distillery” i.e. Buffalo Trace that was then distilled a 3rd time on Bowman’s copper pot still, barrel filled and aged in VA, then proofed down with VA limestone spring water from the same water table that serves MD, VA, KY. I think because they distilled it the 3rd time and age it on premises is why they call it Virginia straight bourbon whiskey. They don’t “source” in the same way that NDP’s do which it what you made it sound like. Smoke Wagon for instance is an NDP that ages MGP in Vegas. Bowman is not that.
The only difference between the NDP's and Bowman is that Bowman distills it a 3rd time locally. Is that third distillation process really adding anything to the product? Doubtful. Is it their own mash bill? No. I'm guessing they do it only so they can state that it was distilled in VA. So while Bowman may not be an "NDP", they're about a hair away from being one.
@@red5standingby419 I actually couldn’t disagree with you more there. John J has an added back of mid-palate pleasant spice that I attribute as pot still spice (similar to pot still spice found in Irish whiskey) that I’ve never gotten on any E.H. Taylor small batch or single barrel I’ve had. And if you don’t think an extra run of distillation makes a difference, go compare bottom shelf bankers club vodka to French Grey Goose that’s 5 or 6 times distilled and tell me there’s no difference? There are obviously other factors in mash bill (to whiskey) and grain sourcing when looking at vodka, or the type of still used - column or pot still, but the more times the white dog is distilled the more of the nasty byproducts (sulfides and such) of boiling off the wort to create your white dog are removed giving you a smoother, purer product that goes into the barrel for aging.
Great review. This and the small batch are good, better than most craft bottles. Not complex nor a long finish, but it’s sweet like pixie sticks and caramel. Not the best findable bottles on the shelf to me, but still good.
Just did a single barrel blind tasting last night! JJB vs EHT SB vs Blanton's vs NEW RIFF SB vs Michter's 10 SB vs Russell's Reserve SB .. 6 Different single Barrels. (For my palate) John J Bowman crushed all of them to my surprise. I knew I liked it a lot, but blindly head to head was extraordinary.
I picked this up for $55. It’s delicious. It’s the first time I’ve picked up a strawberry note. I can’t speak to how it compares to EHTSB. I’ve never had it. It’s definitely better than EHT small batch.
John J Bowman is not currently shipping to VA ABC stores because of the bottle shortage (they say). As of the date of this video, only 4 bottles available in the state (in state stores) and all along the southern beach area.
It hits Arizona at every decent store. The problem is the SiB flies off the shelves, if you aren't there right away it can be hard to find. Most places have it between 49.99 and 60. It's impossible to get Blantons and EHT SiB put here and give this to people who come to Arizona and want to find Blantons.
I'm really liking your take on this btl, but here's the thing, I can actually find Eagle Rare WAY easier than the Bowman-- it simply makes me bat shit crazy 😮🤯👽👿-- sorry 🙏 for the rant, guys 😢❤!
I don’t know how they ruined Buffalo Trace distillate, but this falls well short of EH Taylor for me. The nose is fine, I get caramel apples and cinnamon. The taste is overwhelmed by tannic oak. I could’ve been unlucky and got a bad barrel, but for the price, this is the worst bourbon on my shelf.

I love being a va resident because I can get Bowman bottles delivered right to my door from the distillery. 😁
Awesome review. 🥃
🐓🍭
As of 9/2/22 I can get it for $39. Definitely not a poor man’s EH SB. It slaps Blantons!
Picked one up yesterday here in Wisconsin for 56. I’m excited to crack it this evening!
Great video guys! I'll be keeping an eye out for this, have yet to see it around here... cheers 🍻

hey thanks for review. I had Bowman many years ago and don't remember it. thanks and cheers.

Need to get one. I've seen it the last few times Ive gone to specs here in TX
This is pretty much 100 proof Blanton's

Heck of a blind my friend.
I believe it switched over to their own. Distillate recently can you confirm?
No, its still sourced from Buffalo Trace. They just distill it a third time locally before they barrel it.
I have heard that rumor too.
It’s all over the place here in NV. I’ll ship some for trade any time. Literally as many bottles as you want.
Its so strange how some states seem to get an abundance of something while others get a pittance in the whiskey distribution world.

I enjoyed this video.. 1000%
I haven't been able to find it in California in over 3 years.
It’s not a steal 50.00. Reviewers HAVE to stop saying that. The price is fair
If you find it for 50 around us that is a steal. It is 60 to 80 for us.
If you find it for 50 around us that is a steal. It is 60 to 80 for us.
Blanton's is 60 and it is not as good. EHT is Single barrel is $79..
It’s a sourced whiskey from Buffalo trace so it’s a steal, especially with the pricing going up on everything.
@@bourbonkingdom 49.99 for me
they have a new label now, it has some green on it, made me think i was looking at a new rye release at first.
Local Spot in CA had it for $39.99 …. Gonna go back and pick up a bottle … 👍
RC
Which spot in Ca? I’ve been looking for Soo long already LOL
in case you forgot, kentucky was a part of virginia at the time distillation began.
I found it for $50 in South Kentucky. I live in one of those “pockets” where it’s available.
South Kentucky as in 606?
When on vacation in South Dakota saw this in two stores at $55 didn't pull trigger kicking myself now 😒🥃
John J Bowman is some tasty stuff!
Have never seen this bottle in Louisville. Will need to look for when I am out of town next. #L1C4 #WagnerInRed
Great vid, even better juice
So delicious $52.99 in Va
Absolutely love it
I found a single dusty old bottle on the shelf in a NYC liquor store
John J Bowman is not currently shipping to VA ABC stores because of the bottle shortage (they say). As of the date of this video, only 4 bottles available in the state (in state stores) and all along the southern beach area.
Unfortunately allocated in VA now 🙃 such a good bottle but
I'm lucky to find it for $45 here in Arizona.
West valley? Seems all the good stuff is out there. 😌
@@hombreleon nah it's in AJ

Just found it $54 in NY
Just saw a single barrel in dc - first I’ve ever seen. Paid $88
Smells like Blanton’s to me 🤷♂️
Nah the proof bumps it up a little for me.
@@mrsbutteryworth4947 Smells like the Blanton’s I have. To each his own 😉

That is the tough thing with single barrel selections. Sometimes they are great and sometimes they fall short. Thanks for the input.
RIP Rare Breed. Another one that has been abundant for years and instantly disappears after the youtubers talk about it.
Nah there's plenty around, also, it's not made by Buffalo Trace so we're good.
Wish that was true, can't find it ANYWHERE, Even online?😢-- SUX!!
@@kamahhl 140 here in Texas green label
I'm in VA and been to 3 abc stores not bottle be had
Yet I can get it in nj for 50 to 60 bucks. Great juice. I never had singke eh but had small batch they are both really good
You can order it from the distillery
Distillery in Fredericksburg is your best bet. Got 1 a month ago for 49.99. Bottle shortage is an issue.
I can't believe the money on those shelves , WOW !!!
Must be nice to find them !!!!
