    Very good to hear an unbiased opinion on Irish history from an English person. Should be a mandatory watch for students in the UK where a good percentage are totally unaware of Irish history and the level involvement of the UK has had in it. I heard of some who are totally unaware of where the Irish/Northern Irish border lies & others who still think that all of Island of Ireland is still part of the UK.

    That was an extremely comprehensive, articulate, and concise historical summary of how the people of Ireland was subjugated by the British as their first colony. Notably, good queen Bess used starvation as a tactic to bring the Irish under control. And they called her sister Bloody Mary! going forward Ireland had a second extremely devastating famine, which was not a famine, because during that time of the “great hunger,“ food was actually being exported from Ireland to Britain. They just didn’t want to give it to the poor peasants who ate potatoes as their primary food. Well, the potatoes were infested with rot, and the people ate grass and died with green tears. 1 million Irish left under these desperate circumstances. Maybe the Victorians took the playbook from their good Queen BESS.

    "The precursor to the American colonies" that's absolutely true, the planation's the one in Munster created by Warham St Leger and Richard Grenville and later the Ulster enterprise were the first corporate colonies they were rebranded or dissolved and became the Virginia stock company.

      @alexanderdoddy7590 2 роки тому +2

      Definitely need to look into it as that would be a very interesting video! It set the precedent for how the English would treat many colonies. They learnt lessons from the plantations, that the best way to keep control of the area you have conquered from the folk already there, is to fill it with your people as fast as possible.

      @@alexanderdoddy7590 That was their plan anyway. There's a few scholars that touched on this history. "This Famous Island in the Virginia Sea" and Nicholas Canny's work.
      Also in regards to Mary I planation or colony the forts around it where named as Fort protector and Fort governor, that sounds pretty American to me lol.
      Absolutely the East India company; I feel the colonial connection with North America is far stronger though.
      There's also a Irish connection to the British navy and also the British uniforms probably originated from the Lord lieutenant army dresses in Ireland, if you think about it the colours Red and Gold are Tudor colours.
      There's excellent documentation that shows the Irish used redcoat as a derogatory term for Tudor Soldiers in the 16th century. The term appears in North America with the immigration of the native Irish and the scots-Irish in the 18th century, as well as other places like France- Spain which had some brief high immigration from Ireland.

    This is a very well made video but the comment about the more powerful English is not very accurate at this time and yes England was powerful but Ireland with Hugh O'Neill waged a 9 Year War and defeated the English at every turn until lord mountjoy came the English thought the Irish where still in the stone age. Mountjoy put an end to that mindset but he was still in a very difficult situation and the fact before the battle of Kinsale queen Elizabeth died, mountjoy kept this to himself until after the battle but even mountjoy knew how powerful the Irish have gotten with training from the Spanish and mercenaries from Scotland from the king of Scotland himself and knew over the years of war how organized the Irish was. But I would love to see a video delving deeper into the Nine Year's War in Ireland after all history could've gone anyway at the battle of Kinsale.

    • @RenaissanceMan29
      @RenaissanceMan29 2 роки тому

      I was born into a Celtic Nationalist family, and I'll admit, England certainly was more powerful. There was too much in-fighting in Ireland, like the Clan system in Scotland, it was becoming outdated and The Tudors brought the Irish into the Early-Modern Period. Ireland wasn't even united at this stage when they otherwise would have continued their game of thrones, plus, the video does mention the Irish military strength. I think it's fair, and I'm sure we would all love some more Irish history.

    There doesn't seem to be a distinct moral highground held by either the Tudors or the Irish ascendancy in their personal attributes. But the imposition of a new religion by force certainly appears to be a lawless act, especially where the conversion of King Henry VIII was clearly an act of schism based on worldy political expedience, hence clearly Satanic in nature. And the fact that this was of greater significance to the Anglo-Irish than their blood relationship with England shows how dire this event must have appeared to them. And the later genocidal and decidedly un-Christian strategies of power pursued by the witch-queen and her star chamber were evidence of the fall of the English monarchy into spiritual darkness, no doubt aided and abetted by the likes of John Dee and the Kabbalists.

    • @ccahill2322
      @ccahill2322 10 місяців тому

      @MichaelK.-x12qk, The money lenders/investors in war for profit were the "key" then. As they are, only much more so, now. It is a longer, larger, factor than most people realize. What is happening today in Palestine and Ukraine is the same story--only now more murky-- because of capture of the narrative by the body supposed to expose the truth. Everything people think they know, or have been told, is a lie. One assumes you mean "Satanic" as a metaphor?

    Ireland was Britain's first colony it was literally the blue print for the America's. The first British joint stock colony started in Ireland in 1568 headed by Warham St Leger and Richard Grenville in Cork, tracton and Kerricurrihy. The west countrymen got the idea to colonize the new world and the tactics used from their Irish colonies, they would export this idea around the world.
    The Normans lost most of their territory and never conquered most of Munster, it was the Tudors who committed mass ethnic cleansing.
