hi, been followed your channel for a month since i am trying to learn how to draw fashion illustration with adobe illustrator. Your tutorial is very professional and full of details. thanks very much for your sharing.
You're very welcome! Enjoy the tutorial. We have loads more Digital fashion illustration course that you can watch. Simply, view our digital fashion illustration playlist: ua-cam.com/play/PLgOpHffgkLSdq5Ao3f5u6iew3fMSxO0V3.html There is soo much to learn and it's all free!
Unfortunately, we don't do classes or one-on -one tuition at this time. However, we are thinking of doing this once the pandemic is over since we have had a lot of requests for one-to-one tuition.
This has been extremely helpful. I do have a question though - when I make clipping mask, my outline of the dress goes away too. Is there a way to fix it? Thank you!
Yes absolutely, select the clipping mask outline using the direct selection tool. Then go to stroke on the right sidebar. Change the stroke from 0pt to 1pt or any amount you wish. This will add a stroke outline to your clipping mask. You can also change the colour of the stroke by double clicking on the stroke colour tool on the left sidebar.
If I wanted to purchase adobe illustrator for fashion design, is that a good idea? Since the book is quite old and it was aligned with the older (from what read) version of illustrator, is that a good investment?
Hi Okoro. Is "Adobe Illustrator for Fashion Design" a book? If so I've not read it. I'm pretty much self-taught. There are a lot of tutorials out there that should let you learn for free, but if you needed an in-house reference guide then yeah, why not!? Possibly best to get a guide/ book that is more up to date, considering the software gets updated so often.
Hi Tiffany, Any modern computer with a decent specification should be able to handle Adobe Illustrator, which is the software we use to do both Fashion illustration and pattern making. Also, I use a Mac but a PC is perfectly up to the task. Here is Adobe's guide to computer specifications for Adobe Illustrator: helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/user-guide.html/illustrator/system-requirements.ug.html
Hi Janet! Right now we don't have videos dedicated solely to repeat patterns. But check out this one: ua-cam.com/video/WoI2F965tmo/v-deo.html It gives details on adding colour, prints and textures. Hopefully you'll find what you need there!
your tutorial is very nice sir. Can you please share shortcut keys for tools and please add subtitles in your vedio it will be more easy for us to understand. thankyou!
The tutorial should demonstrate how to draw that garment in Adobe Illustrator. However, the initial drawing was done in pencil on paper using a model template. It was then scanned into Adobe illustrator and traced. Hope that helps!
take a photo of your fabric on your phone or scan your fabric on a flatbed scanner. You can then paste it into your illustration. Arrange the fabric image to the back and then use outline as a clipping mask. We’ll create a tutorial to demonstrate this.
If you are creating presentation pages in Adobe Illustrator, simply, select the entire illustration, group it and then copy and paste it to your presentation document. You can resize it and move it around to suit your presentation.
If you watch the whole series of these tutorials, it should show you how to do this! We also have other fashion illustration tutorials that focus on this topic. Please check out our Fashion illustration playlist.
Unlock the layers and then select and copy the necessary items from the outline and detail layer into a new layer. You could call it the outline layer? Is that helpful or have I missed the real issue?
PatternLab London in the video you selected the necessary item for the outline and copied it , then you lock the body layer and detail layer and pasted it on the outline layer ; for me it’s not allowing me to paste it on the outline later because what i’m trying to paste is locked . Hope that’s not confusing
Hmmm. That is very odd. Normally, when you copy something it gets placed in the computers clipboard, which means it’s a completely separate entity. When it’s pasted into a new layer the item is coming from the clipboard and not the previously locked layer. I might be completely wrong though. You could always not lock the other layers (keep all layers unlocked) and then paste? This would solve the issue you’ve detailed. One quick question. Are you sure you’re not trying to paste on to the existing locked layers? To paste to a new layer you need to select the layer in the layers dialogue box on your right menu column. I.e. define the layer you want to paste to and ensure it is not locked.
That’s probably best. Please send an email to info@patternlab.london. A screen recording video of the issue would be really helpful but understand if not possible.
@@PatternLabLondon i used camscan to darken my sketch outline , for using AI,u do layering , dont need darken whole figure tgt ,then can dont use camscan

You're very welcome, enjoy!
I really love your videos it is very detail i love it.. I have one question if you don't mind.. where can we get the AI file of the model template?
We used Pret-a-template model templates for this tutorial: pretatemplate.com/download-fashion-figure-templates/
Most helpful thing is using reflect
It' certainly makes things easier.
Thank you so much !
You're welcome!
Very good explaning. Keep it up, man!

CAN I KNOW PLEASE HOW DIDI YOU DRAW THIS FROCK ?
The tutorial should demonstrate how to draw that garment in Adobe Illustrator. However, the initial drawing was done in pencil on paper using a model template. It was then scanned into Adobe illustrator and traced. Hope that helps!
Thank you ❤️❤️

Great Job...how we can show any picture or any real material image in vector ?
take a photo of your fabric on your phone or scan your fabric on a flatbed scanner. You can then paste it into your illustration. Arrange the fabric image to the back and then use outline as a clipping mask.
We’ll create a tutorial to demonstrate this.
HOW TO PRESENT THE ILLUSTRATOR FILE IN ANY PRESENTATION?
If you are creating presentation pages in Adobe Illustrator, simply, select the entire illustration, group it and then copy and paste it to your presentation document. You can resize it and move it around to suit your presentation.

Can u plz show us how to make a figure in Coral draw....
Unfortunately, I don't use CorelDRAW and it would take some time to figure it out, time that I just don't have. I'm very sorry!
okay but my question is how do i digitize it
Hi Sasha, I'm not sure I understand your question, can you be more specific?
Is it in a laptop
You can use a laptop or desktop computer. Adobe Illustrator works on both!
can u show me how to put color
If you watch the whole series of these tutorials, it should show you how to do this! We also have other fashion illustration tutorials that focus on this topic. Please check out our Fashion illustration playlist.
It’s amazing i wanna talk to you sir. I need your a small help.
Hi Thamid, What's up? You can always email us at info@patternlab.london
for the outline part , i can’t paste because of the lock body layer and detail layer
That’s probably best. Please send an email to info@patternlab.london. A screen recording video of the issue would be really helpful but understand if not possible.
How can we colour the model
The model is made up of points and lines. If you make sure the model is “joined” and is one outline then you can fill it with any colour you like.
@@PatternLabLondon Thank you..I've learnt something today
Where can I get the template?
Gonzalo Casas google “pret-a-template and you’ll find their free downloads. They have plenty on their so take your pick.
What its name
Not sure I understand?
Oh I see. The name of the “App” is Adobe Illustrator CC.
Thank you
u wasted time to outline it , can just darken outline the whole figure with other app??
Ah ok... What app are you referring to? Also please note, this is a tutorial of how to work in Adobe Illustrator.
