Super Cool Collection! Fellow Canadian Neil Young sold his Lionel collection for $300,000 at auction a few years back. He got into them to help his son Ben, who suffered from cerebral palsy, (as did his older son, Zeke) to have some interactions. He created a 700-foot model train track within a barn, as well as developing special controllers for the train set, allowing his son to control switching and power using a paddle system. The controls later formed the basis for a company called Liontech. In 1995, when the Lionel company was facing bankruptcy, Young put together an investment group to purchase the train company so that he might continue his research and development. Gotta Love Neil.

Alex, You are amazing in all that you accomplish or help others accomplish. You helped Adam make the most of his find and gain his footing to return home. You helped Mary find closure and acknowledge her talent without being critical of her organizational skills at home. She found appreciation and closure in knowing everything was going to be fine. Mary was able to find comfort and gently say good bye. Now you have helped Hans understand that his hard work and generosity to others is being returned to him from this awesome Curiosity Community. Kindness counts! Thanks for all you do!

    Alex,
I grew up on a farm in a Victorian era farm House.
The front room was a big storage area, not the main entry, but a catchall bedroom with a chest freezer, a bed and a big plywood train set display.
They were our Lionel Train set which I had on two levels.
It was hard wired underneath with a huge spaghetti tangle of wires.
Engines, caboose, assorted cars ,including a milk car which loaded and unloaded magnetically, and a coal car which could also be loaded along with other assorted items like building s, depots etc.
WE had it in the forties and early fifties and eventually it went away, but your find was a big nostalgia moment for me.
    Thanks,
    Rik Spector

What a wonderful story about you as a child (& fledgling collector) buying Matchbox car boxes from the store you now own! You really did come full circle on that part of your life's calling! - LOVE the train! If I had the space and the $$, that would so be mine! My late father had a Lionel HO, all steel I think, that he bought in the early 1950's. I loved that train but my brother inherited it & then never set it up. - I think this was one of your best estate unboxing so far! Thanks for sharing it with us!!

Dragonfly Hill - Saw this done in a Burger King (of all places). It was neat to munch on lunch and watch the train travel the entire length and width of the building. Kept all the kids busy too! But if Alex does that in his store, the first train enthusiast will want to buy it because that’s always how those things work. 😁

I have a Lionel O-27 gauge train set that my parents got me for Christmas one. year when I was around 7. They got it by saving up Van Camp's Pork and Beans labels, we got two sets. It had the transformer, track, Locomotive, flat car, box car (Van Camps of course) and caboose and we later added on more cars, including the Turbo Missile launcher car and a cattle car with a offloading ramp so that when you pulled the car up to the platform the doors would open and a cow would come out.
My older sister had a different train with the locomotive that produced smoke when you added the smoke liquid thru the smokestack.
I played with it a lot, even after I was married and moved out. We would set it up on the living room floor. We had one cat who would sit on the track and wait for the train to come around and run into him (not fast, we ran it pretty slow when he did that). The train would derail, he would let our a meow that sounded like a loud "PURT" and then he would move. Don't know how he avoided getting a shock from sitting across the rails. We told the story to a guy who drew a cartoon series called Off the Rails (model railroad but the railroad had an engineer and fireman who didn't know they were running a model train) and he did a whole weeks series based on that cat.

      @bfmcarparts 4 роки тому

      Hello lcs,
Don't worry about your pus-pus getting shocked. The set's transformer put out 17 AC volts maximum, there is more sensation from your tongue touching both terminals of a 9 volt battery.

That B-52 brought back a lot of memories. As a kid growing up in the Utica/Rome area of NY, (in the late 50's and early 60's) my dad worked at Griffiss AFB and the B-52 had some significance there, I'm not sure what, because I was just a kid, but I know that the B-52's were always there - I remember seeing them as a kid when my dad would take us on base. We would also hear a lot of planes breaking the sound barrier as we played in our backyards. My dad was later transferred to WPAFB here in Ohio after they were closing parts of Griffiss.

That is so cool the train set it Alex. You find such amazing pieces and I love how you tell the history of the pieces. When I was very young my Dad asked me what I wanted from Santa. On Christmas my first present was a doll (never played with the doll) I did get the one thing I wanted, a lionel train set. My Dad and I, as I grew older, used to make boats and sail them around in a pond. Living in Detroit, we went to Belle Isle and sent a boat with a note to Windsor. Never had a note back so it probably capsized in the terrible currents of the Detroit river.

Handsome trains.... looks like Mr. Rogers Neighborhood trains set.
I remember when I was younger having and H scale train set.. then as I matured, it got retired and I then got a N scale train set. Super small scale. I had built the tracks (with help from my dad) on a flat piece of plywood then added styrofoam landscape and homes and other decor. Fun train set. Lasted for quite some time.
My brother had also built his set the same and we would place the two next to one another which would expand the area that the trains could travel and of course the expand the look of landscape.

Love the aircraft, especially the Lancaster - I had the privilege of seeing the Canadian Lancaster in company with the BBMF one fly over my house with Spitfire, Hurricane & Mustang escorts not that long ago at or below 1,000 ft - the ground shaking with the roar of Merlin engines. Beautiful sound, and as I'm within (able-bodied) walking distance of the Imperial War Museum Duxford (where the Spitfire first entered service, and more flying examples exist than anywhere else in the world) I regularly get treated to free airshows as pilots practice their routines for display, or just maintain currency on type.
US nobbling of the Arrow was a disgrace, and a breach of NATO treaty obligations.
There are persistent rumours that one escaped destruction, and some parts have been found which seem to confirm it.
