I'm an American that was lucky enough to work in an Indian restaurant (I took it as a second job to learn how to cook Indian food- it's my favorite). I became fascinated by all the hand gestures and Hindi sayings. Thank you for making this. You are very pretty also. Subscribed.
I know this video was forever ago...but it was SO helpful! I spent hours last night trying to find out what the 'evil eye deflector' gesture meant - I kept seeing moms in Bollywood films make it, and everywhere I looked I couldn't find what it meant! I knew it had something to do with good things happening since it was always moms who were happy about something who did it. But I was literally looking up a clip from a movie of someone doing it to send to my indian friends to ask them what it meant because I was at such a loss! Haha, thank you for this video!
I love this! Please do more. I would with 95% of the people in my department coming from India and I try to explain what everything means to my husband. This helps out so much. I often pick up the hand gestures and head nods without even realizing it. So much fun to be able to express yourself with non verbal queues.
I've seen in Bollywood films when a woman might be singing, that a man might cover one eye with his hand while acknowledging the woman. What does that mean?
Hi. That "evil eye deflector" gesture resembles the ones we often see in Bollywood movies, but that seems to mean "love" or something. It comes up mostly in romantic situations, or at least affectionate. Like someone grabs something around the head of someone else, and then brings it to their own temples with a smile. I'm having a hard time finding the gesture using descriptive words on Google (the internet is not as wide and accessible as the legends say, "evil eye deflector" doesn't rake in any good results either), so if you have any information or resource it'd be very helpful ^^
Hey, so most Indian mothers while doing this gesture ideally say "nazar naa lag jaye" which translates to "hope no one casts an evil eye on you". It's ideally a loved one hoping you stay away from evil eye. So Bollywood soon caught up with that and now you often see this in films as a gesture of affection. Which means that.
My fav. Hand Gestures-Idhar aa,Jaa re Bhai,Du kya tere kan patti pe,Maaf kar de Bhai(Hands Joined together),direction hand gestures(yaha se left phir right lelo),hidden mathematical hand gestures when your IIT wale cha cha asks you a difficult math problem
Nice video! I'm a foreigner studying in India. The only gesture which I mistook at first was the head shake for "yes" (which in most countries means "no").
Different types of Head nods! the head shake from side to side, the infinity sign, the autowala's 'haan baith jao' wala head jerk whether or not his mouth is full of paan.
I woke my parents up at "uthake purse mein yun daal deti main" because I laughed way too hard.. P. S: I see the Winchesters, nice to have them around.. :D
and best was mar ja mar ja !! hahahaha !! nashpeetne tera saman kharab ho jaye keeda pde tere ko !! mar ja !! hahahahha!! Now you are making interesting things !! awesome !! I want part 2!!
i dont really care abt wat kinda video u make but its a delight watching ur cute face and ur sweet and sometimes ambigous expressions.....khair....watever u post ill always see i like u dear 😊😊😘😘
This was so accurate! In your next part, you can add "Tauba tauba" wala hand gesture and the gesture in which we touch our ear while taking the name of our guru.
I love this. I often watch Deepika take a tear from her eye and place it by Shahid ear and the protection from the evil eye are my favorites! I am a huge Hrithik and Ranveer fan and need to understand the movies. Love you, joy
Joy Carlin Honodel In that gesture, she’s taking a bit of kajal (kohl) and dabbing it on him, so he has a tiny blemish on his skin. The idea is that the recipient is so lovely that their perfection will attract the evil eye. Thus you “protect” the person by giving them a small imperfection. In a related gesture, some parents will put a black dot of kajal (kaala tikka) on their infant’s face/ear to protect her from the evil eye.
@@Ceibhfhionn Could you please explain the beautiful gesture when a woman touches a man's forehead and then enfolds her knuckles to touch her face with both hands? Again Deepika does this with Shahid. I love your channel. I have currently found a dance video tutorial to help me learn some of Hrithiks moves! I am such a huge fan of India and have been watching "The Creative Indians" and learning about the different foods of the region. Please watch Guzaarish, it is currently my favorite movie. Stay well my dear and keep your heart full of love and sass!!
That was interesting. Some of the gestures remind me of the way Italians use gestures to talk. I'm sure its not at all the same and the Italian hand gestures don't have specific meanings or they have different ones but interesting nonetheless.
I lived in India for 6 months when I was younger. I'd like to go back as a grown man now. You have so many gestures and I was wondering what it means. When some does praying hands and then opens their palms up like holding a bowl. What does that mean?
i got a question to u indian chick(and i mean it in a good way) why do u become a diffrent more exciting person when u speak hindu?do u notice it urself? why is this? and why do u have these 2 stages? u feel the need for it in the western world to take on a diffrent (posture/way of saying things)? stay safe! love from belgium! i love india! i love all people!
I'm going to culturally appropriate the hand gesture at 1:17 not because I am a white imperialist (well . . . hey . . . you know), but because it's awesome! Please tell me what it means.
What's the hand gesture used in the "talking heads" music clip called "once in a lifetime" where the lady chops her hand onto her forearm at the part of the song (1m 20sec) where he says this is not my beatiful house... This is not my beatiful wife.??? Is this an Indian hand gesture?
Ji, would you happen to know what it means when Punjabis straighten their fingers and hold them together then touch the bottom of the left ear and then the right ear? I see this all the time, but my Punjabi is lousy, and I can never get the context. Thanks.

Thank you!! I always wanted to know what that gesture with hands close to the cheeks meant: evil eye deflector!!
as an italian guy I've always thought we are the most gestures talking people in the world, watching your video I realize we are not.
Italian hand gestures + Indian head wobble = Deadly combination
I have seen about half of these but now I have a new appreciation for it... 😂😂
I ❤ Indian culture, so expressive… you make me laugh with happiness.
HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA this was hilarious 😂😂😂😂 YES I WANT PART 2!
Hi there gorgeous you are very beautiful no lie forgive me being a attracted to a beautiful woman like her

These gestures are common in Greek culture too! 😆 , most of them anyway. Hilarious. I recognised them right away
the evil eye deflector is my fav. i love it. it is so from the heart and looks so cute
I've seen in Bollywood films when a woman might be singing, that a man might cover one eye with his hand while acknowledging the woman. What does that mean?
I think that means they are shy

Thank you
We have the same gesture, the hand-turning gesture which means 'what are you saying' or 'are you mad?'
When is the "evil eye deflector" usually used? Does it mean good luck or something like that?
Calio Perelli hey! It means that no bad luck or evil eye should befall the other person :)
It’s like an anti-jinx... “touch wood” or something.
@@ThatIndianChick I saw this done several times watching K3G. Does it have a formal name?
The knuckle pop sound should come, to say whether you had evil eye
I woke my parents up at "uthake purse mein yun daal deti main" because I laughed way too hard..
P. S: I see the Winchesters, nice to have them around.. :D
Me from Chad- Africa who spent four good years in India, seeing this like go ho ho that's what's exactly I'm talking about 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I would argue with you just so I could see you do your cute hand gestures. ( you look pretty when your "mad/annoyed")
The most interesting part was how you turn from a gentleman to hooligans

I need an Indian Friend 😁😁... I only came here for "the evil eye deflector" 🥰🥰❤
I love watching these old videos😂😂😂
What’s the gesture for “seriously,…. What is the real cost…”. I recall a weird and wonderful upward facing open hand, holding imaginary orange….

That's a gesture for praying in some cultures, open hands signify their openness to receive blessings :)
