You're right brother as an indian i feel ashamed they aren't educated enough to know that spoken English came first and we can consider written English wrong cause the way English is spoken is not written that way and these people speak English as it is written and they're saying the native English speakers should learn English from us 😑 whilst they've been speaking English since the written English wasn't even existed

@Pajeet Hunter POO IN THE LOO educate yourself a little bit dear ....first of all not half of billion people live in slums ...maybe you are one of those slums guy ..nevermind ...and there are many divisions...extreme rich then rich then comes upper middleclass and then lower middle class and then comes poor part ...and above lower middleclass everyone has enough money to just buy flight tickets...moreover you know about the billion population but maybe you dont know about the 300 years when india was looted to its fullest..and still it has managed to come on the third largest millionaries and billionaries list
@Pajeet Hunter POO IN THE LOO if britain starts to pay back what they took from us the queen will not be able to even buy a potato...so dear before abusing someone think about the history of that place ..hiding your face and abusing doesnt make you a gentleman..have some peace in your mind ..you can try yoga(made in india and hinduism ) everyone around the world love yoga ..

@silazophia1190It’s true man…
I have many Indian friends, roommates, and classmates in Canada. And while some have more neutral accents than others, I can say that among all international students their accent is one of the most difficult to understand. They are very expressive and their train of thought is really spontaneous, they have a wide range of vocabulary too, but I don't agree with the guys saying their accent is better than other accents.
My girlfriends are Indians from Canada too
Indian accent is definitely not better. I have found that can be ok sometimes and other times just horrible on the ears
In that way only Uk english is correct coz you guys have also changed the original English (uk one) as per your accents over the long time. We can see difference between UK, US, Aus (english) 🤷🏻♂️. Just like you think your accent is better and neutral(only for you), we think the same nothing to be offended of.
Even Siri, Alexa, or Google are having hard time understanding their accent.😬
Mothertongue actually influences your English accent. As every state in India have their own unique mother tongue, you may face Indians with somewhat odd accents and also Indians with a very good accent

@restin' mattress Not all Indians
@restin' mattress it's because people in India are really brainwashed and are taught to be proud of everything about India without being able to sense what is right. They must accept positive criticism and accept that this country is not perfect. Instead of learning to be better, they just continue being proud of fake perfection. They really need to get out of the shell and see the bigger world now. I hope this massive access to Internet might open their minds.
@restin' mattress you're right. The truth is that Indians are the most ignorant towards maths and science and this country's most important debates revolve around resolving religious conflicts. If only they knew that seeing from the outside how funny it appears when the whole world is advancing towards development and we are still fighting over a temple or mosque in UP. The problem is that this kind of mentality is passed on to the next generation and the cycle continues. But fortunately enough, I've seen some hope recently. Students of my college(IIT) are mostly smart enough to judge things in an unbiased way as they know how things in India and rest of the world really are. I think hope is not lost after all. All people need is a better education and the bigger picture. Let's do our best to spread knowledge. :)
Apparently, we also spit.
Yeah that's not racist at all😂😂

In my opinion, the ultimate goal of studying a language is to communicate with people abroad easier and to remove that small barrier between you and other diverse cultures, meaning that caring so much about your accent is totally useless. If you actually could express your thoughts and feelings freely, you've obviously accomplished the main goal.
Yeah, and accents stop you from achieving that goal. Imagine my shock when I got to Scotland, wtf are they saying??? "Americanized" English seems to be a middle ground where it is easiest to understand by most if not all. In America, southern accents and such can be harder to understand too.
But accent does help you to communicate better in some ways. In some accents it’s easier to speak the language than doing it in other ones due to the different mechanism in mouth. But its not the same for everyone, people might be or might not be comfortable with it

One question 🙋🏻♀️
When I go to other countries, like India, I try to change my accent and try to speak Hindi the same way that indian people speak as possible, so that they can easily understand me.
But I’ve never seen Indian people who try their best to make their English understandable for foreigners, they just say “oh it’s my accent”.
Simply why? 😂
I never understand this thing lol
:v
most of the indians do change their accents to match with those of the "real english" speakers but if u still do not understand it maybe its better that you do not talk to them and if someone says its their accent it isnt their fault . every country has its own accent and you say that "I try to change my accent and try to speak Hindi" maybe we wont understand it either . you are making a fool of yourself here . maybe think before u want to convey something .

So you’ll stop talking to foreigners when they’re trying their best to make their accents like yours, but you can’t understand them and stop trying to be friends with them?
I’m saying “I’ve seen many people trying their best to make their accents like locals, so that they can understand. And most of Indians I’ve met, didn’t try”. That’s it.

The main reason why English is spoken a lot in india is because India is an extremely diverse country, although Hindi is the most spoken language, it is only spoken by about 40% Indians (mostly northern states) but the southern states speak other languages, so if we were to simply recognize Hindi as the National language then the southern states would feel left out thus india now has 2 official language Hindi and English (since English was used during colonial rule)

The Story of English, is a book that explores the development of English over time and made some good predictions of its evolution to today. Indian English is its own legitimate accent and cultural subset of English with its own slang and speech. As a non Indian, I am concerned about Indias native languages. In Pennsylvania teachers frown upon Pennsylvania Dutch and saw it as backwards language of the rural poor. As for English being used in India, I can see that it may be used as a unifying language as well as an international means of communication as India becomes an economic powerhouse.
As an American expat living abroad, I noticed that people in some countries do better than others when it comes to speaking foreign languages. However most just can't speak foreign languages even if their lives depend on it and that's because 99.99 % of the time most people don't speak any other language except their own language on a daily basis. I think the main causes of the issue for most people learning foreign languages are number one they don't have a whole lot of opportunity to practice foreign languages, number 2 they learn foreign languages from people who are not native speakers of those languages, and number three they learn foreign languages at ages older than 10.
It's not only the Indians that have horrible accents when speaking foreign languages, I think most people have horrible accents when speaking foreign languages.
Agreed. I'm an indian I watch english news and films and I know how majority of Indian speaks English. It is really laughable . And these kids are nothing but fools. Don't take them seriously. Only less 5% indian are fluent in english. Each and every facts what they said in this video wrong. If a chinease person will speak hindi or french or russian then he will definitely have accent becoz it is not their native language.
I don't know who is producing this channel's and making misleading videos . U know we are 1.4 billion people and 60% people are fool the reason why we are so behind
Exactly, As an Indian i agree 💯 with u, our main issue with English is pronounciation since we often learn from our locals and have different rules in our native language we end up pronouncing words incorrectly but when it comes to paper work majority of the well educated Indians write and read English very well as rules are clear in books...that is our issue with accent.
Lol in India, there is not "one" english accent, English accent varies from every state.

You interviewed Indians with very rich vocabulary and very understandable pronunciation. I live in Canada, there are so many Indians here that speak English way worse than these kids on the video. However after some tome spent with Indians it becomes easy to understand. Especially if you have foreign background like myself 😃
How can they not hear themselves ?? Also most of them commit basic grammatical errors. Perhaps it's the piss poor educational system in India.
How they managed to find only the arrogant ones out of a population of 1.3 billion is honestly mind boggling to me.
Especially the guy with the turban. His english was awful.

Most non-native speakers cannot hear their own accent. Theirs is just VERY unique.
Those who said atleast 40% or 70% people in India speak fluent english have no idea about how things are going on. In India not more than 10-15% people speak fluent english. English is tried and spoken by many but of those fluent are 10-15% only.

For most Asian, English is just a tool, a convenience or an option. For Indian, however, English is part of their culture.
So, Chinese or Japanese won’t take it too seriously when people comment on their English accent (“not my first language anyway”). But Indian will get offended when others think their accent is funny.
Very interesting! I’m from Thailand, and WE know Thai people speak English with strong accents, in fact, you can get made fun of if your accent is not properly American or British. Which is something I find offensive, people should be encouraged to speak especially when it’s not our native language.
Indian people, from this clip at least, seem very proud of their accent. And despite the accent, their speaking is perfectly quick and fluent, which I’ve never seen with other countries haha.

In any language, you have the natives who define what the standard accents are, and then you have learners who speak with foreign accents. Not all foreign or native accents are created equal.
I think most people from the states like the sounds of accents from the romance languages like Italian, French, or Spanish. Then there are the accents which are not regarded as "sexy" because they sound funny to a native speaker. Typically to Americans, accents that fall into this category would be Chinese or Indian.
I've heard Americans say they wish they had a French, Italian, or British accent (yes, i know there's no singular "British" accent), but I've never heard someone say they wish they had an Indian or Chinese accent.
Not all accents are equal, so given any language, there will be a spectrum of accents ranging from "funny" to "sexy."
Not all native accents are well-received either. For example, the southern accent is generally regarded as weird or undesirable in some circles.
Whether or not an accent sounds good in any particular tongue is a bit subjective, but there is truth to the idea that certain accents are more suited to a particular language than others. IMO, i think the Indian accent sounds a bit funny when spoken in English (and I'm sure the flip would be true for Indians as well). When two languages are that different, there's bound to be some weird accent stuff going on.
Anyway, I'm tired of living in a world where you have to pretend you like everything or someone will get offended. I wish we could all joke around in a healthy way with people from other cultures and just get on with life.
