Why does this military band have to play all of the lame trombone gigs?

Jazz arrangements are basically one size fits all...very very very little that can't already be predicted...Re-organising clichés gets old. That's what drop voicing are...just mechanical with little or no thought post execution.

That's because it's the same damn Song it's an arrangement not an original

New "original" jazz is mostly the same, though. Jazz trying to be jazz, instead of being a mode of expression towards another end goal. But no, jazz musicians are mostly a relatively voice-less bunch these days. Incredibly proficient, yes; but when your end goal is to be cool sounding jazz, then the pursuit of your art is pretty dang shallow and boring. Most of the time I don't need to listen to this stuff, just let me read the summary of what they did in any jazz harmony book. But seriously, look at any Monk tune, Ellington or Mingus piece...Jazz composition to these guys was the mode to something more profound they wanted to express, they weren't trying to be jazz. Jazz was the means to the goal...not the goal.

@@dudeman3664 yeah I agree with that a lot but in many cases

Can't imagine having that reaction to this arrangement in particular. He reharmonized the band parts, rewrote the melody, added counterpoint lines. This is quite far from the original and not predictable in the slightest.
