  • Countless CIA ops, ties to the mob, and oh so many romantic liaisons. JFK's administration is considered by many to be one of the better ones. But not everything about it was positive.

I concur. I’ve gone down the JFK rabbit hole getting initially caught in the assassination gravity well which led me to watching a majority of his press conferences. Flawed as he may be he seemed to have qualities of dignity and integrity that politicians don’t seemed concerned with and/or required in politicians today. At the very least he was aware of the need for there to be a perception of these qualities whereas today it’s not even a prerequisite. I feel like this is true across board as even Nixon seems to value it…at least in 1960. Also, to me, he seems to be the smartest person in the room at all times.

      Hebrews 11:6
6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

I love watching these informative well made videos by Grunge and I’m a mega nerd when it comes U.S. presidential history. There are certainly been really lousy chief executives over the nearly 250 years of this country.
James Buchanan White elected in 1856 was certainly one of the worst because he pretty much allowed the United States Civil War to begin during his tenure in office. By the time he left office he told his successor Abraham Lincoln. “If you are as happy entering the presidency as I am leaving it, then you are a very happy man”.
Was JFK the greatest president of all time?No but he certainly was right up there with the greats. Was he a man of flaws? Very much so and we’ve learned more about his life every year sense he was taken from us that horrible November afternoon in Dallas Texas 1963.
I think often especially with the more successful presidents we tend to look down on the negative aspects. None of us are without our less then perfect traits. We can’t even begin to try and find the perfect individual to be the leader of country. No matter what we’ll always be disappointed.
All I’m saying is yes be aware of his flaws. Try to avoid behavior like that if possible. But realize this. Had he not been handling the Cuban Missile Crisis in October 1962 none of us would most likely even be around to talk about his presidency. I guarantee you there would be no UA-cam or social media to discuss the presidency of John Fitzgerald Kennedy.
It doesn’t excuse his bad behavior before as well as his time in the White House. But keep in mind what I said. If anyone else had to handle the Cuban Missile Crisis we may very well not be here now.

You are correct about Kennedy’s handling of the Cuban Missile Crisis in October 1962. Just imagine if Richard Nixon had been President in October 1962 instead of JFK. Nixon, in my opinion, very likely would have caved in to the demands of the military industrial complex and either bombed or invaded Cuba. The result would have been catastrophic for all of man kind. I don’t think many of us would be alive today if not for President Kennedy. So, since Kennedy literally saved mankind from extinction, how can he not be hands down the GREATEST American president for all-time?? The man saved the world. And our government said thank you to Mr. Kennedy by blowing his head off. 🫣 🤦‍♂️

Let’s be very clear here. The Vietnam War was known as “JOHNSON’S WAR” for a reason. It was Johnson that first ordered US Troops into combat in Vietnam in March of 1965. KENNEDY INHERITED US TROOPS IN VIETNAM FROM EISENHOWER. And under both Eisenhower and Kennedy, US Troops were only in Vietnam in an ADVISORY ROLE. Kennedy signed NSAM 263 in October of 1963 which called for a COMPLETE WITHDRAWAL of ALL US Troops from Vietnam by December 31, 1965. Under Kennedy US Troops were not in combat mode in Vietnam. Kennedy did NOT want US Troops involved in a war in Vietnam. Kennedy even said in interviews in 1963 that “the Vietnam War will have to be won by the Vietnamese themselves” and not with US Troops. The military industrial complex wanted US involvement in a long, moneymaking war in Vietnam. But Kennedy was not going to give it to them. So after Kennedy was taken out, Johnson gave them the war they wanted. The day after Kennedy’s funeral, Johnson signed NSAM 273 which effectively REVERSED KENNEDY’S EXECUTIVE ORDER, and in NSAM 273 the Vietnam War (with US troops in combat) as Americans came to know it was born. In March 1965, Johnson ordered US Marines into combat in Vietnam. Johnson then lied to the American public about the “Gulf of Tonkin” incident in order to get public support for a greater escalation of the war. Under Kennedy, there were 16,000 US Troops in Vietnam in an ADVISORY ROLE. By 1968, Johnson had over 500,000 US Troops fighting in combat in Vietnam.

There were some American “advisors” in Vietnam in the late 50’s when France was mired in “La Merde” of Indochina (now known as Vietnam). I recommend watching the movie “The Quiet American” with Michael Cain and Brendon Fraiser

That’s an Oliver Stone myth. FYI- LBJ continued JFK's Vietnam policy he didn't reverse it. Pres. Kennedy was not withdrawing from Vietnam. Listen to the full Kennedy-Cronkite interview and JFK on Huntley-Brinkley Report, he said the US should stay in South Vietnam, even in his final speech in Dallas he said that. LBJ did pullout the 1000 troops (stated in NSAM 263). What Johnson signed, NSAM 273, in late Nov. 63 was a re-evaluation that Pres. Kennedy had ordered his advisors to do after the removal of Ngo Dinh Diem earlier that month, and was about the same as NSAM 263. JFK followed the state dept. advice to remove (not to kill him) Diem. VP Johnson opposed the removal of Diem as did CIA chief McCone. Pres. Kennedy later said on tape that could have been better evaluated. Whether Kennedy would have intervened is unknown but he did have the same advisors as Johnson. Also, former President Eisenhower supported intervening in 1965.

The Cuban Missile Crisis was very scary. I was 4 years old and we lived in Jacksonville. My father was a senior in federal law enforcement, they were on high alert and he wasn't home for days. We lived near the base and we could hear the airplanes, the engines were running constantly bc of the danger. My older sister was scared bc of all the stuff she was told at school.
After the Soviet Union dissolved and records were opened, it became well known that one huge factor in the Soviets' boldness in Cuba was the total lack of respect that Kruchev had for Kennedy. They had met and Kruchev didn't believe Kennedy had any "guts."

    Some Non-questionable Things Too:
In 1963, JFK authorized McNamara to develop and begin an exit plan for gradually removing advisors from Vietnam. Though contingent upon the GSV succeeding on its own, it did demonstrate his expectations for and commitment to an operational principle to withdraw most US forces by 1965.
British historian Lawrence Freedman concluded his study of JFK’s foreign policy, with ‘for all his mistakes and misadventures, (his) achievement was that he could be remembered for crises rather than hot wars, and that he left the cold war in a far less dangerous state than he found it.’
Before taking office, Eisenhower had advised him to send combat troops to the land-locked Laos. Once in office, the JCS unanimously recommending sending combat troops to Laos. JFK rejected all this advice and negotiated the neutralization of Laos with support of the USSR.
Within 12 months of the Cuban Missile Crisis, JFK initiated detente with the USSR by negotiating the Limited Nuclear Test Ban Treaty and approving the sale of US grain to the USSR.
The CIA’s bacteria/fungi-contaminated scuba diving suit was an attempt at sabotaging JFK’s mission for James Donovan to discuss rapprochement with Fidel Castro in the summer of 1963 by having him be the unwitting purveyor of the deadly gift.
Richard Mahoney concluded his study of JFK’s policies in Africa, JFK: Ordeal in Africa, with ‘(despite) memories far grander than the actual record ….(he) did succeed in identifying nationalism as the central reality of his age and in doing what no other American president before or after him has done-establishing a common ground between African ideals and American self-interest in the midst of the Cold War.’

“…it’s likely that we’ll never know the complete truth about Kennedy’s private life.”
And why *should* we? A private life is supposedly private which means it’s not known beyond family and close friends.
I don’t think there’s much speculation over whether Jackie knew about JFK’s affairs or not. I believe by now that it’s common knowledge that he had many affairs, and that she knew about it.
She was planning on divorcing him at some point in the ‘50s because of his infidelity but his daddy Joe gave her $1 million not to divorce him. She accepted the money and she didn’t divorce him. There is speculation that she had thought about divorcing him during the height of the 1964 election season when it would have caused the most damage. But we will never know since he didn’t live to see the 1964 election season.
I believe that Jackie knew about certain women that JFK was having affairs with, but she didn’t know about all of them. What she did know was more than enough. And she did know about Marilyn Monroe.

It was Richard Nixons idea to go to Vietnam to start with. President Eisenhower said Nixon was always wanting to get involved in every conflict in the world and Eisenhower finally agreed to send advisers to Vietnam.
John F. Kennedy was also a war hero. He was also the last Democratic president to condemn communism.

Democrats know that communism is bad (in practice, if not in theory), so they don’t need a candidate to remind them that that’s the case. It has always been implied. Saying “I’m against communism” is like saying “I’m against murder,” like, duh.

I think if the world was honest about it and analysed the how he lived rather than how he died, both as a person and a President the world would have a much lesser opinion of JFK. The simple fact is that he was a playboy with a winning smile who knew how to fake it, but his equally unfortunate brother Bobby was a much better man and could have been a much better leader. I would say that is the reason they took him out before the race started because to repeat how they assassinated his brother would have caused a civil uprising !! I will add that I am conscious the amount of times I used the word "they" makes me sound like the usual, but in the case of the US government anyone with a brain must by now realise there is always a "they" lol
