This ride made me so sick. Just absolutely hammered me but couldn't complain because I was on a cast member pass; but omg, motion sick for the next few hours! This multi-pod setup also explains why they are in such a rush to get people out of the pods when the ride is over - one in our group tried to take a selfie in the cockpit and the cast member was super pushy. Very interesting explanation. My fun fact: We were told that part of the learning process for cast members who would be operating in the new ride was playing hide-and-seek in the queue area and chess rooms so they could learn how to get around the backstage and on-stage areas (I thought they said there were 4 mirrored chess rooms but I could be misremembering, this was WDL). Sounded like a fantastic and fun way to familiarize folks with an inherently confusing setup.
@@spencersparks2335 I think that's exactly why I got sick! We weren't moving but the visual illusion is fast motion. The illusion must work great for many but I'm not one of them.
@@spencersparks2335That’s precisely why people get motion sickness on simulators. The motion you are feeling mismatches with what your eyes see. It’s even worse while wearing VR glasses as you aren’t moving at all. At least on a simulator ride, the motion somewhat matches. Disney did a pretty good job here on this ride. I only got a little sick and only for maybe 30 seconds which is phenomenal because I get motion sickness quite easily.
I went on the ride for the first time a few weeks ago. It was an amazing experience!! I was a single rider who joined a crew of 5 other random adults - the 6 of us screamed, yelled, laughed and basically lost our minds - like a bunch of kids! I think we hit every single obstacle possible, it was hilarious. Afterwards it was like we had bonded from the experience, it was so much fun. I went on the ride again a few more times after that and the magic just wasn’t there - not like the first time! Thanks for video, great explanation of the inner working.
Last time I rode this there were these two ditzy teen girls driving. The one controlling the up and down didn't realize that pushing down on the control actually makes it go up, so she was constantly crashing us. In fact, she didn't think she was even controlling it and kept saying I didn't do that, I didn't do that. They got in to a heated blame game with each other with each one saying "that's you! that's you!' 'No it's not! I didn't do that!". When the ride was over the cast member opened the door and said "11? Who was piloting this thing anyways?" And the two girls each pointed at each other, arguing with each other all the way out. Hilarious!
Wow. Once again, Disney pushes the envelope in a really big way. I admire your editing and storytelling skills, and I was glad to notice that your voice-over is steadily improving. Still a couple of unintelligible spots here and there and a bit of rushing at times, but your diction is much clearer in this video and you are well on your way. That makes me happy. Yay! 😀
This was actually the second time I recorded it. I recorded it the first time and got about 15% through editing and hated how it sounded. It also started giving me the same issues when j tried to make the Omnimover video where it would crash randomly during rendering, but I found a.way around it by looking at the log where it crashed and it shows the frame where so I could calculate where it crashed and adjust it. Saved me from having to edit it all over again like in the omnimover video.
@@AmusementLabs Well done. I have a fair bit of experience in live performing arts, but I have to admit that I'm still working on my first YT video. Most of the filming is done, but today I discovered a better way to do some of it so I'm thinking of going back and redoing that footage. I've been watching channels that have a similar theme to mine (DIY) to observe the editing techniques they use. Also learning the editing software at the same time. Hopefully I'll be able to pull it all together. 🤞
Honestly I’m loving getting to see this growth in progress. I’ve always loved this channel for the knowledge I gain, and as I’ve watched more there’s just been a relative explosion of production value and skill sharpening. It’s super exciting and kinda makes me think one day I could maybe start a channel I’ve been brewing up lately.
I was the L side engineer. The extra acrylic sneeze guards for COVID protection created many internal reflections and made it really hard for me to see what was happening in front of us. It also helps to know that you won’t have to do anything without Hondo telling you. I was paying too much attention to my control panel and missed what view I could have had.
I've been on this attraction with my parents once at Disneyland 2️⃣ years ago for my birthday. My mom was a gunner with the other unknown theme park guests who were gunners just like her and engineers. My dad was the pilot and I was the co-pilot. It rocked big time and may the force be with you. 😀
This one and Rise of the resistance have been particularly good videos, I really like how you went beyond meshing together footage from the internet and designed the 3D-printed diagrams to show the "how" it shows effort and true investigation. Thank you for making this!
Yeah I think thats what causes virtually everyone to suck at this ride. They assume they’re controlling it from the perspective of the ship’s center when in reality 90% of the vehicle they’re piloting is to their left.

Fun fact: If the ride breaks down, it can be just as fun as the ride itself! Hondo will ocassionally pop up on each station's screen and deliver a short speech. (Example, asks a droid to play some music while the riders wait that consists of random beeps, or has a conversation with chewie about what's broken.) Overall though the ride is very fun and here's a tip: The single rider line is *much* shorter than the regular line, and is a viable option if you don't mind playing as engineer a lot.
I did see part of the video where he reports a "hitchhiker" creature, which is apparently how they stall for time when the ride's over but not ready to unload. And I once saw the alternate preshow video where he apologizes for not being there in person when the Hondo animatronic's out of order. It was only on my very latest time using Single Rider that I observed it has a voiceover of Hondo introducing Ohnaka Transport Solutions to make up for skipping the preshow! Is that new, or was my timing off before?
It's why I always request pilot before getting on. Anytime I'm paired with a group of strangers it's like they have no idea how to function and they are paralyzed the entire ride.
Looks like the pods are essentially just a version of commercial airline simulators, they likely have some form of rolling staircases to get everyone out
Best one yet! Loved the Star Tours pop-up tone. I already a knew a lot about how it worked, but as usual you bring up stuff I never would’ve thought to wonder about that just deepens the magic. Sadly when I went to the one in Disneyland I fell for the mistaken belief that the single rider line would be faster, since you were sacrificing the whole preshow. I was SO WRONG! Also, they were packing so many people through that ride so quickly they literally told people not to sit at that game table or go too far, so no photo op for me. It didn’t help I was going at Christmas and it was extra busy, I guess. 🤷🏼♀️ The game is fun, but unless you know everyone in your crew personally you’re in for a real variable experience. Sadly they stuck a very young, small single riding child in the driver seat. His co-driver tried to help him, but one of the two times I went didn’t take long.
We were there when this opened but it was the day we were leaving so we didnt get to ride it till we went back maybe 6 months later. When we went back we quickly discovered the "one rider line" rode it so much my daughter said "I dont wont to ride it any more im tired of it." The best ride I did was with a college kid who had been on it as many times as us so we did pretty good. Still didnt get the second container though. The MOST fun I had was with a black family who didnt really understand Star Wars or what it was. They laughed the entire time and hit more stuff than I knew possible, pretty much destroyed the ship I think we got paid nothing after hondo got done with the repairs, they were a blast.
You’re research and knowledge is incredible! I’m very impressed with what you observe and point out, like the black box that is the computer processor for the ride system!!! 😱
it would be really cool if they made more than the one mission, than they could have the coaxium mission on one side than another completely different mission on the other side.
I got to ride this one three years ago, once as an engineer, once as a pilot. Let's just say I'm a WAY better engineer than pilot... Somebody in my pod knew how to trigger Chewie mode, though, and that was awesome.
I'm not the star wars nerd in my family. My husband is. I look forward to the day I can take him here, when we've defeated covid. All I want is to see him become a little kid again, describe to me the ins and outs of his favorite thing, let him play with all the toys, make his own lightsaber, he'll probably want to spend more time in the loading area playing around with all the gizmos in the falcon. I know he'll want to try chewy mode. This might end up being his most favorite ride in the park.
I went to the Star Wars area at DL 2 months after it opened and got to ride this one. It was fun! Some tips for you when you go (which you totally should): * Go on both rides first thing in the morning, at least once each. Get that out of the way and you could return back later on or the next day if you want. * The singles line (for the Falcon ride) does help with wait times some, but you will be basically guaranteed to sit in the back of the cockpit if you go this route, as CMs will put families up front. The Falcon ride does not have Fast Pass (at least 1.5 years ago). * When you first enter the park, make your reservation through the Disney app to reserve your times for making your droid and/or lightsaber. I'd recommend doing these after dinner so that you're not hauling them around all day. The lightsaber does include a cushioned carrying case with a shoulder strap, but it's going to be full-length. The lightsaber building wasn't on Disneyland's map, but when you experience the build process there (which takes about 20 minutes), you'll understand why. * Yes, the lightsaber one is a bit pricey, but it's totally worth it. * Eat at least one meal in the Star Wars area. * Try and learn some Aurebesh before you go. If you use Disney's SW app to interact with the sets and props in the area, your phone's battery will drain like there's no tomorrow. Learning Aurebesh ahead of time will help you not use your phone as much. * If you fly there, keep in mind the only way to get your lightsaber (and probably droid) home is either inside a golf/ski bag that you'll check or as a carry-on by itself, which means that you can only take one other bag on board with you. The lightsaber can only be slightly disassembled, but the blade is one piece that's a bit fragile. * Just enjoy the whole area and interact with the roaming characters. And get some blue milk.
When you go, research the virtual queue for Rise of the Resistance. For a Star Wars fanatic, it is a complete overload for the senses (in the best way possible). Smuggler's Run is good... but Rise is mind-blowing.
The feedback I was getting from everyone else coming off that ride was that it was a big let-down. I didn't enjoy it much at all. I thought Rise of the Resistance is amazing, but I don't think I would even go on this one again. A Battle of Hoth coaster would be the ultimate fan experience for us Star Wars nerds! Cars going under giant ATATs and then looping over top! Chills!!!!!!
For those of you who've never rode this ride before but are wanting to, here's a tip: the ride functions like a giant, full motion video game (meaning that you're actually in control of the movements and the action). It's best to choose the two people in your group who have the best hand-eye coordination to be the two pilots (or you're going to end up having a very rough ride like I did when I let my mom and dad be the pilots, lol). Also, there's a fun detail in this ride: there's a live scoreboard that shows up on the screen at the end of the ride just before you depart. If you plan on riding the ride more than once, you can try improving your score with each time you ride as a fun challenge.
This is the only time a ride has broke down while I was riding it! (thankfully during the landing sequence). The cockpit tv's have a lore-friendly video that plays while you get rotated out, once you get out the staff will give you a lightning pass that only works on this ride (because the other 3 presumably are still running), and they'll let you stay a little to show you how the revolving exit works! But uh yeah if you hear a grinding noise tied to the movement, let the staff know
@@AmusementLabs I'm not too sure, honestly! I've tried to think of rides that would be interesting to learn about, but you've done a video on just about every one I can think of!

I like the interactive game concept of this ride... now if only they can include a souvenir at the end for the player who has the 'highest score' , like having a laser engraver behind the scenes which makes small pieces of simulated in-universe material as the ride is ongoing, to reflect the actions of the players during the ride
I finally got to experience it and it was great I got the sit in Han Solo seat as a pilot ,but the lines are so long you can't even take time to enjoy the chess room. You are in and out as fast as hyperspeed.

It may be for something slightly different than for able-bodied people, which is how amusement and theme parks do it. I remember my first day at Disney last year I rope dropped early park hours to ride Rise. It was raining that morning, so even when I left Rise the park was practically empty. Went to Smuggler’s Run and the group before me went in together, leaving me on my own. The cast member told me I could just drive the Falcon on my own if I wanted, so I did! That was my first time and I did horrible, but it was so much fun. (Esp since the groups I was in the two other times I rode it had no idea what was going on. One family didn’t even speak English so… yeah, they couldn’t understand any of the instructions, lol. I tried to help because I can speak some Spanish but my vocab was too limited.)

Ive rode it four times now and love the ride. Definitely think they need to add a new mission or dynamic missions and I would probably ride it more. Pilot is definitely the most fun gaming experience. Engineer is basically button masher/enjoy the ride experience. You can get extra bits of dialog if you fly through hollow asteroids in the minigame at the end. I have gotten two different lines from Hondo there so far!
my sister and i found out that if ur fine with going by urself, while occasionally getting paired together, then u can go on the ride w like a 10-20 min wait if u go single rider; after waiting in the reg queue for 2 hours 1 time we went on the ride solo tons of time within the 2 hrs it wouldve taken us to go on it once; this works w some other rides in the park, but this one seems to be the best due to the necessity of ppl in the spots of each pod (also it was cool to meet some nice groups of ppl)
I went on this ride and I was the pilot on it which was fun but challenging as the up and down was invented when i was riding it as I’m not used to inverted controls for the up and down
Great video. I know you touched on this, but what would the experience be like when running an empty pod? Or similarly if riders didn't touch anything?
Is it possible to get all three coaxium pods? Ive been on this ride three times (once in each position) and we've never gotten more than two (and we only got one on one of the playthrpughs)
If I've played on a VR headset for years, would this ride bother me? Is there some vibration or something to simulate motion? Aside from having control over what happens, is it like the 4D rides at Universal? I've never been on a rollercoaster due to my heart and I don't like the feeling from drops on any ride.
I road this while on acid with my buddy, we got to be pilots, its was one of the greatest experiences of my life. It also happened to be before the Covid nation attacked, thank god.
Hey I love your videos, and think all your facts are so interesting. If i could put one piece of advice in, speak a little slower, that way we can understand the facts easier. But keep up the good work!
Well the pods are in an open warehouse so i imagine there's a fire release on the doors and you could hop on down to a catwalk and run out the fire door.
You can actually see the edge of the dome from the ADA (they call it PWD) pod before the ride launches. If you look closely you can see the machine readable tabs the game uses to align the pod to the dome.
The "game" felt difficult to me. It feels impossible not to crash into something if you're in the pilot role because the controls are undersensitive. The engineer role was confusing as well. We kept hitting the correct button when it was time to hook onto the cargo, but the attachment failed.
Really love this video, thanks for putting it together! I’m particularly interested in what you said about the ADA pods. At the end of the video you mentioned they are more intense but also that they are stationary. I’m confused. Can you explain? I use a manual wheelchair and have decent arm strength (but very little grip strength), and I’m paralyzed from the chest down so I suspect I will struggle with lateral balance in particular. Are you saying that the ADA pods don’t move back-and-forth and side to side? If so, how are they more intense?
So all the other pods are on a turntable that rotates versus the ADA pod doesn't rotate because it's not on a "carousel." This would make it more "stationary," technically speaking, but it's not any less intense and actually has more freedom because it's separate.

@@shaliyahlankford4952 No, that isn't what triggers the extra scene with asteroids. That is entirely based on the timing of the ride vs what it should be.
Sounded like a fantastic and fun way to familiarize folks with an inherently confusing setup.
this ride didn't make me very sick, just felt a little bit dizzy afterward and vowed to never ride again. my sister couldn't steer it! lol!
How did you get motion sickness you don’t move😂
The engineering behind this ride is even more interesting than the ride itself. This is so informative! Thanks.
Hilarious!
The Star Tours chime is my ringtone. I felt like I was going crazy the first couple transitions.
Lol same here had to keep double checking
I think it would get annoying as a ringtone, but I use it as a notification tone.
Totally getting this as a notification sound
Its really fun having 6 people fully role-playing during it.
I love the Star Tours ding when new info pops up in the video! Great work!
"Youre probably waiting in the queue line now"
Me in July 2020: 🥺
I never understand that line - does he mean if you were in the queue you'd be watching these potential spoilers before you got on the ride?
i was going to comment that
I was the L side engineer.
My pleasure. I love making these little models. The largest one I've made is for the mission space video with all 10 arms and cabins.

Everyone seems to forget that the Cockpit on the Millennium Falcon is not centrally mounted, but rather it's off-set to the starboard side.

(Example, asks a droid to play some music while the riders wait that consists of random beeps, or has a conversation with chewie about what's broken.)
Overall though the ride is very fun and here's a tip: The single rider line is *much* shorter than the regular line, and is a viable option if you don't mind playing as engineer a lot.
@@BagOfMagicFood I don't think it was there before, although it's been a while so my memory's fuzzy lol.
Rule #1) Don’t let your 6 yr old “prince” or “princess” be the pilot
It's why I always request pilot before getting on. Anytime I'm paired with a group of strangers it's like they have no idea how to function and they are paralyzed the entire ride.
It is a stressful ride, I hear, if you don't know what you're doing.
I think I’m a decent Vertical Pilot, I just sometimes confuse up for up, not Up for Down.
Rule #2 Don't eat Taco Bell or beans prior to riding.
@@thedude2897 I'd hate to be the party that loads in after. 🤭
So, Carousel of Progress meets Star Tours + interactivity. Cool.
That's actually a good way to describe it. 👍
Yeah you have answered all my questions but I still can't understand WHY DID I LET MY KIDS CONTROLL THE SHIP!
One of the world's greatest mysteries...
They should program a child pilot mode where the ship flies itself and the controls do nothing.
One of my favorite rides. I have ridden it twice. So want to go again to Batuu.!
May the magical Force be with us.
First time ever riding this. One of the best experience!
BRAVO! You brilliantly captured my experience on this ride, it was stunning. Great narration Peace. 🤯
I'd like to see a video of an evacuation if the ride completely shuts down.
I also was wondering about this.
Looks like the pods are essentially just a version of commercial airline simulators, they likely have some form of rolling staircases to get everyone out
@@xXBL4KAl3YSSXx on most documented breakdowns, they just rotate everyone out, while clips of Hondo inside keep riders distracted
@thetheatreorgan168 it is cool when it crashes to some field or the computer itself with the codename "Big Bird"
I’d kill to look inside of those car-sized PC towers and see what kind of components they used. The cooling system alone must be insane!
The game is fun, but unless you know everyone in your crew personally you’re in for a real variable experience.
You pretty much nailed all of it without pulling the curtain back completely.
You've earned my sub and look forward to many more uploads from you sir!
You’re research and knowledge is incredible! I’m very impressed with what you observe and point out, like the black box that is the computer processor for the ride system!!! 😱

I got to ride this one three years ago, once as an engineer, once as a pilot. Let's just say I'm a WAY better engineer than pilot... Somebody in my pod knew how to trigger Chewie mode, though, and that was awesome.
You should do the Indiana Jones ride next!

@@brodywilcox2399 I forgot I even said this lol. The Indiana Jones Vid was great!
Sounds like the best theme park ride I've ever seen. Impressive what they achieved there.
You're awesome
Take the husband when you can. Never forgettable brownie points!
You might see a grown man cry. Be ready
I went to the Star Wars area at DL 2 months after it opened and got to ride this one. It was fun! Some tips for you when you go (which you totally should):
* Go on both rides first thing in the morning, at least once each.
Yet another great vid nice job!
Glad you enjoyed!
One of the best rides on property
The feedback I was getting from everyone else coming off that ride was that it was a big let-down. I didn't enjoy it much at all. I thought Rise of the Resistance is amazing, but I don't think I would even go on this one again. A Battle of Hoth coaster would be the ultimate fan experience for us Star Wars nerds! Cars going under giant ATATs and then looping over top! Chills!!!!!!
Great Work!!! This is really good!
I just put my headphones on. Wow, for starters. The music is amazing.
Excellent job. Thanks for posting.
But uh yeah if you hear a grinding noise tied to the movement, let the staff know
Great video! This is such a cool ride, and I love the editing!
I watched this on my phone and the star tours chime tone kept confusing me because it's my text alert sound.

How does the ada accessible pod work ?
I like the interactive game concept of this ride... now if only they can include a souvenir at the end for the player who has the 'highest score' , like having a laser engraver behind the scenes which makes small pieces of simulated in-universe material as the ride is ongoing, to reflect the actions of the players during the ride
I finally got to experience it and it was great I got the sit in Han Solo seat as a pilot ,but the lines are so long you can't even take time to enjoy the chess room. You are in and out as fast as hyperspeed.
Love it as always!
I’ve only actually been on the ADA compliant pods so it’s interesting to see how the other pods “exit” (the damage on the ship). The ADA pods exit from the same side they entered
What is ADA?
@@thatguy3968 Americans with Disabilities Act. It requires businesses to accomodate wheelchairs & walkers. It may be for something slightly different than for able-bodied people, which is how amusement and theme parks do it. So, there must be a ramp that is no steeper than a certain amount and at least a certain width with a handrail. There's a bunch of other rules as well depending on the type of business or residence, but it's to prevent handicapped people from completely missing out on a lot of things that us able-bodied people can experience.
My childhood dream come true! This was SO fun!
The attention to detail of Disney is out of this world
First time on this ride was the other day. I was in the driver vertical seat. When they told me up was down and down was up, I felt at home with the inverted control.

This kind of footage can also be seen at 2:52
Another incredible video. Do you know if there are any photos or videos documenting the flip panels and other damage in the post-show scene?
None that's I've found. Tbh I was going off what was originally reported, but it may have been cut. There are little seams between the damaged areas so maybe?
I've only riden the ADA pods at Disneyland, so it's facinating to know how the ride is different through the regular queues.
Love these. Forbidden journey ride please!
I went on this ride and I was the pilot on it which was fun but challenging as the up and down was invented when i was riding it as I’m not used to inverted controls for the up and down
I wish i was standing in a queue line right now
Great video. I know you touched on this, but what would the experience be like when running an empty pod? Or similarly if riders didn't touch anything?
It becomes more of a star tours style automated/guided journey. You'll definitely lose points and owe Hondo.
Finally going to visit Galaxy's Edge in early January. I'm hoping to get to ride both Smuggler's Run and Rise of the Resistance.
i am looking for that 3d printed carousel can you point me in the right direction to find the files?
Is it possible to get all three coaxium pods? Ive been on this ride three times (once in each position) and we've never gotten more than two (and we only got one on one of the playthrpughs)
Thank you for sharing
Will do. I'm _still_ trying to really get it down.
It was so fun to be the pilot, still can’t remember how to go up and down though-
My stepdad actually made the circuit board for the Disneyland version
Cool
Why do I not believe that? Esp cos these use computers not little circuit boards. I highly doubt it
What do you think the safety precautions are for if there’s a fire while you’re up high in a pod on a carousel?
Well the pods are in an open warehouse so i imagine there's a fire release on the doors and you could hop on down to a catwalk and run out the fire door.
You can actually see the edge of the dome from the ADA (they call it PWD) pod before the ride launches. If you look closely you can see the machine readable tabs the game uses to align the pod to the dome.
"a procrastination production" 😂😂
Just a note the ADA pods are programmed to always have the extra asteroid scene.
The "game" felt difficult to me. It feels impossible not to crash into something if you're in the pilot role because the controls are undersensitive. The engineer role was confusing as well. We kept hitting the correct button when it was time to hook onto the cargo, but the attachment failed.
I get that, I was left and right and it kept overcorrecting!
I can remember yelling at my brother cuz he couldn't figure out how to drive up and down... It was a very intense ride
