    Had the same thing happen. I tossed the radar detector in the sleeper before the cop got to the truck. When he got to the door I started asking him if he seen the deer that jumped into the road. He said no. Told him that if he wasn't tailgating me he would have seen them. He just walked away

      Since the sleeper is considered a personal residence, police aren't allowed to check unless if they have a warrant. He must've not had a warrant, since he didn't check the sleeper. That is the perfect excuse for slowing down: saying a deer crossed the road. Therefore, if there was a deer, you would've had to slow down, because, common sense. If the cop was beside the truck, it would've been considered a foiled excuse. That is what I call being a savage.

    Made me think of when my dad hauled LP gas, every morning a city cop would tuck in very close behind my dad just trying to rattle him into doing something stupid. One morning as usual this happened, but this time a young kid was riding his bike to school near an intersection, the cop was so close to dad he could not see the kid. Dad braked hard where upon the cop threw on his lights to pull dad over. Running up to the cab yelling at dad that he had almost caused the cop to slide into the back of dad's truck. Dad keeping his cool simply said, "I guess you were following too close for safety and did not see that kid almost cross the road in front of me. Cop simply turned around tucked tail between his legs walking back to his car. The cop never bothered my dad again.

    He should've taken that BIG ticket to court, and claimed that the cop was following too close. Which is a hazard and against the law. A win win in my book.

    Well, it's the cop's fault for following so closely. You'd think a cop would know better than to tailgate.

    Similar story is the cop would sneak up on a truck with all his lights off and pace the truck from a few feet behind the trailer. There was just enough moonlight the truck driver could catch the odd shadow of him back there. Driver dynamites the trailer brakes, stupid cop runs into trailer, driver reapplies air to trailer and off he goes. He gets pulled over down the road and his response to "why didn't you stop at the accident scene didn't you feel the car hit you?" "I never saw any headlights so I thought it was just another bump in the road"

    I drove truck full time for twelve years and part time for 6 or 8 years while working as a mechanic. I am not an old grizzled veteran but saw my share. I see most cops as predatory and do not trust them. As to truck driving. Glad I did it but never going back. Met a good woman now and want to settle down if possible. Trucking life is not conducive to that. Might consider it part time again. Many respects to Truckers. We need them far more than we need cops if you ask me.

    Got passed by a cop car about a year ago. I had 63 EUR pallets (120x80cm) with paint so I was fully loaded and weighed 40 tons. He passed at about 90km/h when I was doing about 75km/h in an 80 zone, in a downhill, got in my lane about 15 meters in front of me slammed on the brakes down to about 55-60km/h, indicated right and got into the lane for the off-ramp. Had I been a fraction of a second too late I would have slammed into the rear of the cop car. I slammed on my air horn and he responded with blue lights.

    That’s almost like the time back in 80 I was on a dedicated run hauling the US Mail for a contractor late on a Saturday night when I had a drunk in an old Plymouth fury get in behind me with his high beams on and right up in the mirrors. No matter what I did to shake this guy he stayed right on my tail. He followed me for almost a hundred miles till a friend of mine told me a way to get rid of him. He told me that since I was driving a 73 F model Mack that since I had to use the engine stop to shut off the engine that all the key did was turn off the power going to the brake lights and he said to get that puppy rolling as fast as I could then turn off the key and yank down hard on the trailer brake lever till the wheels locked up and smoked the tires and sure enough the lights went to the side and solved that problem

    In Ontario the OPP ( Ontario Provincial Police ) has a radar detector detector ( made by bell electronics ) installed in the police cars.
    The officer's detector can detect the radar detector's oscillator cristal frequency.
    If you turn your detector off the police can't detect your radar.
    If he can see it, he will charge you with possession charge, it falls under the criminal act, not a driving violation.
    By the way in Ontario the police radar power is much higher than in the USA.
    They don't have to worry to outsmart the radar detector owners.
    You can pick up an OPP radar over a Mile a way, in an open area.
    He has to be right beside you to pick up your radar detector signal.
    Don't ask me how I know !.

    March 1973, Moncton, NB. In a heavy snow storm, driving my 1973 Plymouth Fury II equipped with 4 new heavy lug snows, through the Town of Dieppe, Town police cruiser(PC) suddenly appeared from behind and activated the emergency lights. I immediately signaled to pull to the curb and stopped. As I watched the rear-view, the PC kept coming. He could not stop on the slippery road. $700 damage to my car. 1973 Dodge Monaco totalled! Officer remained in PC. I went to the passenger side seat, introduced myself and asked, "What's the problem Officer?" He responded with, "I'm writing you up for dangerous driving." There was a knock on my side window. I opened the door to have the Chief ask, "What's going on here?" So I told him. To which he responded, "THERE WILL BE NO TICKETS TONIGHT!!"

    I was heading North up the Grapevine and Silver Shadow got out of his patrol car. As he did I came awful close to his patrol car door because he wasn't thinking. I got on the radio and mentioned I almost took off the CHP's door. Little did I know his partner was still in the car and got on the radio to tell me if I had taken off his partner's door they would have come to get me. One of the other drivers chimed in and said, "It would have been a cold chase with no door". LOL

DOT don't care what the companies what you to do. and don't use your cell without a good blue tooth. get blue parrot u will be glad you did I promise. hit me up if you like to know more or just want to talk. ask experience drivers about companies. good ones and bad ones.

    Those cops would never have caught me. Even when I had a radar detector, I wouldn't hit the brakes just because the detector went off (for exactly this reason, BTW). What I MIGHT do is let off the gas, at most. But I wouldn't just get on the binders for no reason, and especially if the detector instantaneously goes from 0 to 100%.

    The trucker should have thrown his radar detecter into his sleeper because the peace officers are not allowed to go into there. The sleeper is classified as your home and I was told this right from a DOT.

    • @EasternExplorer
      @EasternExplorer 8 років тому +7

      Actually in Canada its true. The sleeper is a legal residence and they can't search it without a warrant, they can however search the truck cab on probable cause. The only folks who can go into the sleeper without a warrant are Border officals. Its the same with RV's to. They can search the cab but not the house portion.

    • @klr650ryder
      @klr650ryder 8 років тому +3

      If they want to search your bunk they'll search it. They'll detain you and apply for a warrant, which they'll get. In the meantime, your rig has been towed to their detachment. They get the warrant and they are in your bunk and any where else they want. "Yes sir, no sir, 3 bags full sir" will keep you out of shit.

    • @anthonydeleeuw
      @anthonydeleeuw 8 років тому +6

      Wayne Wilkie they have to have a damn good probable cause to get a warrant! A warrant is not something you can just get anytime you feel like.

    Those Cops can really get dirty. I was going west through Indiana about 1:AM and boy we had a line of trucks, and this darn smokey rolling the hammer lane without any lights on at all trying to be sneaky, and when he rolled past me I just happened to look and see him so we all started talking on the squawk box about that dirty sucker trying to entrap us and just when that Cop got even with the drives on the truck ahead of me, to mess with him that driver hit his left turn on and started moving to the left, and that smokey looked like Sherrif Buford T Justice peeing like a possum he not only pulled that truck but 4 of us, and when his backup got there and all of us saying the Cop traveled west on the interstate at 1:AM with no lights in the hammer lane, he got the reprimand and we got to go, but every time I ran through there after I watched my P's and Q's Boy I could write a book might be a bestseller and I bet you could to... One night I was driving home from work and had a cop tailgating me and then this rabbit jumped out on to the road out of nowhere so I hit brakes and veered left to avoid it and the cop slammed theirs and ended up on the curb. That happens like crazy. Now I don't recommend this, but here's what I did. Sometime ago I was coming out of Mobile, Al. on I-165 towards Montgomery, Al. I was driving a Mustang, with Texas tags. I could not see the police car front grill behind me in the rear view mirror. I was doing the speed limit and in the right hand lane. Cruise Control set so I would maintain constant rate of speed. For about three miles this guy wasn't backing off. I reached down and grab my cell phone and held it up, so he could see it; as if I was snapping pictures. It was amazing how fast he backed off. To make the story better. Now remind you a was in the right hand lane already. This police car driver passed me on the right side ( emergency lane ) and his back end slipped slideways away from me thank goodness. He gained control and finally disappeared. There needs to be a crack down on roadway police bullying.

    I did the same thing in my pickup to a Nebraska state trooper. Thanksgiving morning 1985. The first thing I did was knock the detector off the dash while I was stopping. The officer asked me if my radar detector usually worked better on the floor. Kind of a hard question to answer. He gave me a warning. Nebraska state troopers are the best.

      That's funny! I once sat and shot the breeze with a Nebraska trooper that was running North Platte eastbound coupe in the middle of the night. He was an excellent guy! Dave

    The cop should have charged for dangerous driving as well. Cops seem to think because they have a shinny badge they can do whatever they want to which can cause major harm or even death.

    Should've wrote that officer a following to close ticket, the officer was breaking the law to catch the trucker breaking the law.

    this story reminds me of the time i hauled a super secret load for the dod and had seals in back guarding it. it was so super secret i was allowed to blow by ws doing 70 in the left lane of a 55mph just to get the load there.

    I had a kinda similar incident one night while hauling U. S. Mail trailers loaded with Mail for a contract carrier. I don’t know if you know that while hauling Mail on a schedule run, and they all are, you do not need to stop at weigh stations or even have a log book! Cause your every move in on schedule, plus can never be overload cause every pallet or buggy loaded with Mail is passed over a continuous scale as your loaded! So anyways here I am tooling along at a strictly enforced speed limited run, I drive right by a portable weight station, as directed by the drivers handbook for contract carriers hauling for the U. S. Postal Service. Now don’t you know there was a rookie cop that made it his business to fly out and apprehend me!!!! He came you on me so fast with his flashers and high beams and gum balls on! Right on my ass!! So when I went to hit the brakes, it is also known by the carriers that you should always use the trailers trolley brakes as often as possible cause they are always in top condition and why waste the tractor brakes. But when I went to hit the trolley lever my hand slipped from hanging up the CB mic. and kind of really hit the brakes to the point of locking them up for about 20’ or so of skid marks in the hyw and 6” in his shorts!! Plus he did hit the DOT bar! Not enough to damage the heavy grill guard the state cruisers have, thank goodness cause he really hit! Wow was he pissed! But it was his fault! So after some contention and back and forth with me telling him and showing the U. S. Mail timing slip, plus a radio call to his watch Commanders radio, he was advised to let me go! Right away!! That was a great feeling and a great no touch driving job that was mostly just pin to pin! With no log books!! Just a tractor inspection report that gets signed by the fleet mechanic on every trip! Plus the pay is the same as the Service would have to pay a Postal Driver, which is pretty good! Especially considering you do not touch anything in the trailer and the drivers break rooms are very nice! For me it was really nice cause I was able to use a sleeper from the fleet! Plus the dispatch made sure and kept great track of your time, back then it was the same 10/15 in a 24 hr period. Ten hrs driving in a 15 hr shift! But it was all at night. Which is good and bad! Good because there is a lot less traffic, bad during daylight savings in the fall and winter, when you leave the house in darkness and come home as the sun comes up! So it’s like being a vampire! You have to sleep during the day. But in the summer? It’s great cause you get to see every sunset and sunrise!

    Back in the 70's Bird Dogs (radar detectors) were illegal in Virginia. We used to keep a box of tissues on the dash with a little hole in the side, stick the bird dog down in there pointing out the hole and put the tissues back over the top of it. :)

    police have VG2 the is how they know you have a radar detector. the VG2 tells the officer that you have a radar detector then they turned on the radar to check your speed.
    then they came out with VG2 cloaking on the radar detectors so the cops could not detect you having a radar detector in your car or truck.. and note, the police have a standby switch for the radar. when your well with in range they turn on the radar at that point it's to late even if you can detect the police radar or lasers. they also can hear when in let off the fuel to slow down and the same is true when you speed up.
