Great video and analysis overall. My only thought is on option 2 (no Hitler), the Allies may have been at a more disadvantage as the rearmament was helping relieve some of the Great Depression. I don't think adding time for the Allies may help as much as the Great Depression would have lingered on further. I also don't see Italy joining the Allies, in fact, without Hitler, Italy might be the primary aggressor and Germany 2nd. I do think the rise of the Nazis in general might be in question and the Communist may have had a more dominant position and then the World War could have been Allies against German + USSR which might be even more deadly of a conflict. (Basically Communists vs the West).
I love how Poland, after invading and winning against Germany, gets partitioned by them anyways. Absolute peak irony. Poland is either hyper-aggressive and expantionist, or literally doesn't exist, and there's no in-between.
@@rewriting-history a better one is gavrelo princip -->ww1 -->nazis -->ww2 -->80m deaths for 1 death, it's obviously famous and very overused but its way crazier
My idea: the SPD handles the economic depression and unemployment causing the party's popularity to not go down since the party is more popular than the nationalistic groups Hindenburg doesn't appoint Hitler as chancellor since he doesn't have a reason to appoint him
Brüning who was chancellor in the time of great depression is much more to blame for that than the SPD. If he and his party didn't go for a severe austerity policy for solving the economic crisis the Nazis wouldn't have gained as many followers as they did in our time line. The Weimar republic was very fragile because to form a goverment very many different parties had to cooperate which didn't like each other very much and had very different goals.
I don't think Poland joining the Little Entente would be as far fetched as you might suggest. That whole spat with Czechoslovakia was pretty much the only reason why they didn't join it in our timeline. In turn, France and Romania pursuing friendship with Poland was a way to make Poland informally aligned with the Little Entente without the headache of making Poland and Czechoslovakia play nice with each other. Indeed, if those two bickering nations had amicably resolved this problem for good then there's no reason why Poland should be kept out. Especially if, say, Lithuania approaches Germany with that Memel for Vilnius offer.
I think all alternate histories underestimate the butterfly effect. if someone moves even slightly differently, completely different genes will be selected for their child, which would completely change everything.
Of course, but we cannot account for that, as nobody could predict anything remotely close to what would actually happen. The point of the butterfly effect is that small actions would have massive conseqences down the line. The thing is that literally nobody can predict these massive conseqences
I think this would make the Nazis more popular as more people would seek revenge. In our own history, mainland Germany was almost not occupied, imagine the allies capturing Berlin in WW1, this would make the Germans more mad than the French in 1871
@@rewriting-history I disagree. The "stab in the back" theory would have been less convincing if German civilians had seen allied troops marching in in the streets of Cologne, Frankfurt. Berlin etc. Furthermore who is to say Hitler, once recuperated would have not have been killed in a 1919.
There is an interesting game called "Social Democracy" where you play as the SPD in 1928 and have to prevent the Austrian Painter from becoming Chancellor! It's quite an interesting scenario and I wonder what would have happened in reality, had the SPD saved Weimar Germany (Perhaps through deficit Spending and a large Public Works program). @@rewriting-historyEntirely fair! I do think that an alternate history setting in which the Nazis never gained power and the Soviets causing WW2 would be interesting! I’m gonna have to write that lol
For scenario 3: I don't think Stalin would attack Poland in 1939, as he would see that Germany is being pushed hard in the west. To avoid any possible conflict with France and UK that are in solidarity with Polish people.
Assuming H-man gets into art school, and things happen on the time scale you mentioned and Germany annexes Austria in 1940 (and lets assume the west doesnt go to war with them for that), then the war would start around 1941, in which case Italy would be a far more competent ally. Mussolini told H-man Italy wouldnt be ready for war until 1941, and perhaps Franco could be persuaded to join the war if the Axis were initially successful given the later start.
It was never about him being rejected from art school that could have prevented WW2, it was going to happen either way and it would've been worse without him
Fun fact: Hitler was almost eliminated in ww1. unarmed, wounded at the hands of a British soldier (who I forgot his name) the British soldier felt reluctant and spared Hitler. Only if the British soldier eliminated Hitler 😅
Why i think 6th scenario is much less realistic The region Těšín/Zalozie had a very strategic place on map. After the dissolution of Austria-Hungary, there was an only railroad that could take military armament and connected czechia and slovakia together. Těšín had/has also quite a large coal deposit, so thats the reason why they had a war about this region, so the new states could get on foot easier (ethnic population wasnt even big of a deal). Quite a big reason why it was after the war czechoslovakian, was the hungary invading czechoslovakia.
Yes, I researched about this and made a UA-cam short about the topic. Basically there I covered a deal where the railroad can be used by Czechoslovakia free of charge, while the coal plans will still provide Czech households with electricity, but the majority of the land would go to Poland. I think this would be a fair solution
The locals inhabitants of that area made an agreement on where to settle a border, but government in Prague didn't listen. Then, during Polish-Soviets war, Czechoslovakia invaded that area and annexed whole of it forcibly. Moreover Czechoslovakia stopped military help for Poland from the West. How would you expect good Polish-Czechoslovakian relations after that?
What about a video: What if France let Poland push into Russia and regain theyr old Commonwelth lands 1920s(maybe not the whole thing, but more than in our history).
In resume: 1. A solid peace until the war starts in mid 1940s or early 1950s 2. Maybe the world would go wild and...oh no...oh no...Noooooo!!! *insert Soviet March from C&C Red Alert 3* 3. I didn't know you've asked Lore Dad to put the Project Stressa lore in a lite way 4. I prefer Orleans over the Bourbons and the Bonaparte 5. Maybe the Oster Conspiracy would have worked and Europe would face the red menace Soviet March intensifies Ah, come on 6. Maybe in the 90s version of this scenario would put Eastern Europe in a wild and whacky situation
Do you mean the WW2 with our general events, or a 2nd World War? Cause if you mean a Second World War, you have to account for Japan, Italy, and the Soviet Union
I think scenario 4 and 5 would work better if they were the same scenario. France as a Monarch is mostly likely to join a Poland offensive in 1936 (I don't think UK joins though and would likely oppose it). Issue is that I find it hard for France to have a Monarch survive WW1 since 4 other historical Monarchies collapsed as a result of that war. Fascist Italy is a big red flag in all of this as I think Mussolini would still continue to push aggression and was opportunistic enough to start wars while the other European powers were busy.
18:50 yeah, few years ago polish border troops invaded and claimed church on Czech side, thankfully it ended without further escalation and withdrawal of the invasion 😂 But for some reason this border still isn't full regulated, but we are talking about few km2.
@@rewriting-history I'm a massive fan of your work. Right now, I'm making my own alternate history based on it, with the first video already being up. Unfortunately, the audio is a bit quiet.
I was with you until you mentioned the 1936 scenario turning into a communist Germany with them still partitioning Poland with the USSR. The partition wouldn’t have happened, first off, because Germany would not be as strong and with comparable interests to in our current timeline to work with the USSR for that. The Soviets were only buying time with the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, to be capable for a war that pre-industrial Russia would have surely lost. Germany was also buying time, for different reasons. A communist Germany that rose up from within instead of because an outside force without enough people on the revolutionary side who actually understood international trade/technology/macroeconomics (which Germany definitely had within leftist circles as well - not talking about Walter Ulbricht here) definitely could have turned out differently as well. It wouldn’t have necessarily been subordinated to the USSR
imo, if hitler got into art school he wouldve still became an extremist. he wouldve still joined the army in ww1 and would likely turn radical after the "sudden" central powers defeat. that along side the humiliation of versailles, the stab in the back myth and the failure of the weimar economy would still likely lead to him becoming an extremist imo
The best chance for preventing WW2 would be for the allies to drop the treaty of Versailles in the early 1920's and strongly pursue policies of reconciliation and trade with Germany. That would make the NSDAP far less popular as their biggest grievance no longer exists. Perhaps they could ease the restrictions on the German military also, and move toward forging an alliance against potential future Soviet Union aggression in Europe. The second best chance would be for Britain, France and Poland to guarantee Czechoslovakia and actually declare war on Germany if they still went ahead with invading the Sudetenland. Germany was still weak before conquering Czechoslovakia, appropriating its enormous and modern military arsenal, and all of its gold and foreign currency. It would still cause a war, but Germany would be nowhere near as powerful or as mobile as they were in 1939 and 1940, and there's a high probability that the German military elite would have staged a coup to overthrow the NSDAP for getting Germany into another major conflict when they had no hope of winning.
Another scenario would be if the peace-advocates of the British cabinet like Halifax ousted Churchill and made a peace with Germany. Thus, the war wouldn't escalate into a world war but would probably be called the German-Bolshevik war. Or a scenario where Edward VIII remains on the throne, thus increasing the likelihood of an Anglo-German alliance.
Well, that is intentional. If the US is more involved due to WW1 being longer and the US has more influence over the Entente, with self determination Northern Schleswig could remain German, as Denmark didn't want them historically
The solution is actually simple. If the right for self-determination actually counted for all people. Millions of Germans were forced to live under foreign government that oppressed them.
And what of the poles in Östpreußen? They were forced to stay under Germany and were arguably treated as second-class citizens. And yet, Poland never started a world war over it.
@ChatGPT_ChatbotTest Unlike other countries, like for example Czechoslovakia, Germany never had anything written in it's constitution to openly discriminate against non-Germans. Also Poland partial mobilized it's armed forces and openly threatened Danzig and it's German population if they dared to go trough with their attempt to reunify with Germany. They also did it to invade Slovakia, but the German invasion came before Polands preparations were finished. It seems your narrative about the poor and defenseless Polish population falls flat. Because Poland wanted a war, they were just not strong enough and they were also betrayed by France and Britain after Poland got used as bait to get a reason to destroy Germany. Now be a good bot and stay quiet when the adults talk.
I mean what did the allies do when Germany invaded Poland? Nothing they sat and waited for Germany so what changes Germany is weaker but so are the allies. Maybe Germany never turns to defeat the French the next year but Hitler was determined for war. The only potential deal breaker is if Poland intervenes while Germany struggles with the terrain and fortifications. If Poland attacked it would pull forces into defense against Poland while Germany slowly takes out the checks. If the French after seeing the poles attack, also attacked the Germans would simply be overwhelmed fighting a three front war.

True
I love how Poland, after invading and winning against Germany, gets partitioned by them anyways. Absolute peak irony. Poland is either hyper-aggressive and expantionist, or literally doesn't exist, and there's no in-between.

3.5 out of 10 for no Munich conference but that would have made the war a piece of cake for the allies relatively. Way fewer deaths
He overlooked one possibility: no November armistice in 1918, the Allies overrun Germany.
The only way is that Austrian Moustache Painter didn't fail at art school.

If you think I stole possible history's format, yes, I'm from the Balkan. And we do steal things here.

I have always blamed the art school for refusing to accept hitler and thus ww2.
One thing Poland accepts the 16 point plan
It was never about him being rejected from art school that could have prevented WW2, it was going to happen either way and it would've been worse without him
Fun fact: Hitler was almost eliminated in ww1. unarmed, wounded at the hands of a British soldier (who I forgot his name) the British soldier felt reluctant and spared Hitler.

Why i think 6th scenario is much less realistic
The region Těšín/Zalozie had a very strategic place on map.

I think scenario 4 and 5 would work better if they were the same scenario. France as a Monarch is mostly likely to join a Poland offensive in 1936 (I don't think UK joins though and would likely oppose it). Issue is that I find it hard for France to have a Monarch survive WW1 since 4 other historical Monarchies collapsed as a result of that war. Fascist Italy is a big red flag in all of this as I think Mussolini would still continue to push aggression and was opportunistic enough to start wars while the other European powers were busy.
18:50 yeah, few years ago polish border troops invaded and claimed church on Czech side, thankfully it ended without further escalation and withdrawal of the invasion 😂

If france would be a monarchy in ww1 the implications alone would butterfly its outcome
Yeah I agree, I said it multiple times assuming that it doesn't butterfly the scenario away
If only Versailles Treaty was never signed and implemented.
imo, if hitler got into art school he wouldve still became an extremist. he wouldve still joined the army in ww1 and would likely turn radical after the "sudden" central powers defeat. that along side the humiliation of versailles, the stab in the back myth and the failure of the weimar economy would still likely lead to him becoming an extremist imo
I have an idea : What if the Allies landed in North west Germany instead of Normandy
It would still cause a war, but Germany would be nowhere near as powerful or as mobile as they were in 1939 and 1940, and there's a high probability that the German military elite would have staged a coup to overthrow the NSDAP for getting Germany into another major conflict when they had no hope of winning.
the fact that you balkans steal stuff is funny(no offensive)
Wasn't World War II known as the Great War ?
If anything, World War I was only known as the War to end War, not the Great War.
You should make a video where Poland declares war on Germany and the allies defending them 🪑
Or just make a short
Another scenario would be if the peace-advocates of the British cabinet like Halifax ousted Churchill and made a peace with Germany. Thus, the war wouldn't escalate into a world war but would probably be called the German-Bolshevik war. Or a scenario where Edward VIII remains on the throne, thus increasing the likelihood of an Anglo-German alliance.
Erm you didn’t give northern Schleswig do Denmark in th German Austria part 🤓
Well, that is intentional. If the US is more involved due to WW1 being longer and the US has more influence over the Entente, with self determination Northern Schleswig could remain German, as Denmark didn't want them historically
The solution is actually simple. If the right for self-determination actually counted for all people. Millions of Germans were forced to live under foreign government that oppressed them.
I agree, I just finished reading about the Sudeten Germans and most hated Czechoslovakia, but liked not paying war reparations
And what of the poles in Östpreußen? They were forced to stay under Germany and were arguably treated as second-class citizens. And yet, Poland never started a world war over it.
@@ChatGPT_ChatbotTest What?
@@23GreyFox what do you mean, "what"?
Great video but if the painter died early that doesn't stop japan invading china, so ww2 is not just in europe
