This is amazing, thanks for doing this. We bought a lazy spa back in the summer instead of a holiday due to lockdowns and it's been fun but I've been concerned about increased electricity costs here in Northern Ireland. Took it down for a couple months between late Sept and put it back up at the beginning of December to use in run up to Xmas but no way to accurately measure what it would cost. Scary just how much the electricity has gone to this year. So December will cost me circa £100 extra in electricity cost just by having the hot tub on! Cheers Again.
We got ours in lockdown too. My MiL bought it for us for all the 'work' my wife did looking after her needs while she isolated. Buy yeah, the winter running costs are quite scary. I've been looking for something suitable to insulate the tub with (insulation is defo the answer) but haven't found anything suitable yet.
Great video, thanks, but can you please clarify for non-British folks, how many kilowatts per hour in on of these 'units' of electricity? Tryed to Google it, but no luck so far...
I had an outdoor standard fibreglass 5 seater spa and used it very often, minimum 3 times a week. Found the cheapest way to heat it was to actually empty it after each use and when I wanted to use it again I would run a hose from a tap inside and fill it with hot water. Doing this made a huge difference to my electricity bill savings as my home hot water is gas. Your biggest cost is the heater in a spa bath, so if the water is already hot then it hardly need to heat.

Good video. Very useful. Just a question as a newbie to hot tubs. Do you have to keep it heated all the time? How long does it take to warm up as and when you want to use it?
You don't have to run the heater all the time, but if the water temperature falls below 6C°, it will turn on automatically and will run until water will become 10C°. Just a clever safety measure. It warms up about 1C°/hour (on average, bigger tubs requires longer time to heat up).
They have been heavily discounted this summer simply because of the energy costs. A few of the home stores have also discounted the chemicals and accessories. I purchased in July just to see and experience it as the sales tempted me and as I'm not going abroad. Rough figures so far it's been around £6 a dayish when up to temp, that's with ambient in the 20's. Initial fill and heat up was about £11 until up to temp. I've used two filter and some foamer and chlorine. Would I do it again? No I wouldn't , for me it's too costly , too much faff to maintain and I feel it's not worth my time and money in the long run for the novelty of it. I feel a better option might have been a normal pool with a good thermal cover and just refill with hot water every other day. Again maybe not.
Great information mate, just can I ask are these the prices of the tub constantly running per month or do you switch it off time to time. We keep ours on 24 hrs on 40 degrees and don't really know the costs as yet.
Unless you are using it everyday, I would turn it off. I left mine on everyday for 2 month @ 40 degrees n then got my electricity bill! More than double what it usually was n that was before the latest price increases. 🙈
Another excellent video, so thanks. Are the energy usage based on maintaining 40c all the time or do you adjust temp when you are / are not using the tub? I'm packing mine away today (prefer to use in dark cold nights) but I generally drop it to early 30s if I'm using within the next day or 2 and mid 20s if I'm going to be away for a few days. Sure I read somewhere that this was the most efficient 🤷♂️
Yep ! 👍 Use it twice a day … keep it switched to 40C Use it once a day … switch it on 4 hours before your dip (leave temp at 31C between use) Use it once a week … keep the spa (heater) OFF switch it on 10 hours before your dip
Hi mate, thanks for the great video. Can I ask which Layz Spa you have (how many people it's for)? And also, when you say "units a month", do you mean kWh? Thanks again! :)

@@AbouttheHouse0 yeah decided it's not worth it at the moment... Probably would only use it once a month anyways

Again maybe not.
if it's not for you, it's not for you
Hi - Remember that it's NOT UK !!!!! We do not pay for water in Scotland, its free, like our souls. Nice review.
Water in scotlands free??! I might hook a pipe from your house to myn in the West Midlands and save some money
@@anwarabegum3182 costing us £300 a year now ….. Grrrrrrrrr
your water is not free the english pay for it .. still want independence?
@@user-Merovingian1980 yes, I’d take independence any day.
Yep ! 👍
Use it twice a day … keep it switched to 40C
Use it once a day … switch it on 4 hours before your dip (leave temp at 31C between use)
Use it once a week … keep the spa (heater) OFF switch it on 10 hours before your dip
Hi mate, thanks for the great video.
Can I ask which Layz Spa you have (how many people it's for)?
And also, when you say "units a month", do you mean kWh?
Thanks again! :)
St Moritz = 6 person
units = kWhr
Just brought mine and has cost me £40 for 5 days to run really not happy
How often did you use it and are you having it set to 40c or reduced when not using it?
Lazy spa now £20 a days from April 2022 🤬 sending my one back right now from Argos had it 2 days cost me £20
I feel the same lol
I Just brought mine cost me about the same are we doing something wrong
£20 a day ? how do you work that out

With fuel prices at a high I thought about this long and hard. Then when I saw the mess at Heathrow and a cost of a holiday for a family of four, I decided that having a hot tub was worth the cash. I rather reduce my costs of eat out to help out, since this govt does nothing to help common people.
Super clear, waffle free !
Can you kindly give lessons on clarity to all the idiot, verbose American you-tubers please ?
Thanks Max
Christ now your scaring me. As I'm switching the heater of for over a day at a time hoping this will keep my bill a bit lower .
Everybody wants a hot tub but nobody wants to pay the eletric bill. Always the same bullsht. You know this when you buy it.
There's some truth in that. Few consider it _beforehand_
Not worth it with current electricity prices, unless you have solar.
'Worth' means different things to different people.
I breed reptiles so my new addition of a lazy spa, might just about bankrupt me 😂😂😂😂
NOT WORTH TIME ,MONEY ,OR THE HASSEL.😊
In your opinion. They aren't for everyone.
