    I'm a Ute fan, but i always hope for success with BYU , too. Sitake, and Whittingham are close friends, and i don't think there's any backstabbing going on. Utah, through the years have taken BYU players, also. They both recruit the same players, and the players usually go with Utah, as they have generally been the stronger program, but now with BYU's success, things are evening out.

      Utah the stronger program? Well, you are a recent fan (last 20 years) of Utah football. I've been a BYU fan since the early 1970's. "Generally" BYU was easily the stronger program for 3 decades since then. Up until the mid 1990's, Utah wasn't even a consideration for any recruit that BYU was going after. I wouldn't say that BYU is on much of a success trip... 11-2 this season, but the Cougars were in the exact situation last season that the Utes find themselves in now... BYU was 5-7 and no bowl game.
      I just think BYU has learned how to play the NIL and transfer portal game. I don't think Whittingham has fully embraced these ideas. He's a hardcore football coach. He wants his players to be focused on getting better at football, be dedicated to making the sacrifices necessary to win. NIL is a distraction to players and coaches. I'm not sure that Whitt is willing to play this new game where he has to worry about appeasing his players so they will stay with the program.

Ute fans are petty, jealous and vindictive. Luckily for the rest of the conference, all of this will only be aimed at BYU. Cougar fans are used to it.

      I have never heard in the media or any local sports news that throughout the rivalry that Utah players, or the Utah football program for that matter, were injuring BYU players purposefully or intentionally. Those are significant accusations. If anyone asked you for proof or evidence of such accusations, hope you can produce it. Also, accusing Utah fans in general of being petty, jealous and vindictive is simply not true. Not all Utah fans are like what you claim as their is a lot of good Utah fans out there just like I am certain a lot of wonderful and gracious BYU fans. What I would say is that there is toxicity in the rivalry and it defintely goes both ways, and is not one-sided favoring BYU fans like you claim. Your post would be a biased approach with your opinion of Utah as I assume you are a BYU fan and that alone would be taken with a grain of salt.

      @ that is totally fair criticism, and I should have worded the part about injuring players better. I made it sound like physical injuries on the field were taking place, which to the best of my knowledge never happened. The injuries were to the players’ ability to stay in school. There were never ending narc calls to the honor code office etc. thanks for calling me out on that, it needed to be clarified.

    This is a great college football rivalry. Utah mostly dominated up until 1970 when BYU turned the tables and dominated throughout the 70's and 80's, then parity in the 90's until Utah again dominated through 2019. I think we are on the brink of more parity, which will be much more exciting. The Cougs finished last year with the exact same record as Utah finished this year. Utah has made some changes I think will make them more competitive next year. The coaching staffs are insanely incestuous in that they are almost all tainted by playing or employment at either school, and the recruiting base venn diagram overlaps significantly as discussed in this interview. BIG 12 should do its best to hang on to Utah because there aren't many rivalries like this in college anymore.

    My opinion and reasons why Utah fans are upset and screaming tampering is all about being upset for having a terrible season after being promised to be a top school in country with Cam coming back and good transfers coming in they failed, and now players are transferring out after being promised to be in the playoffs and big12 champs and not making it. 2nd they are screaming tampering because now since the playing field is even for being in a the same conference now because since Utah left to be in the pac12 have dominated since joining the pac12 and BYU going independent the playing field was not equal, Utah has gained what I would called entitlement and find it hard to see a good player they had go to the rival school but in history we have seen BYU players go to Utah and Utah players going to BYU.

  • @teti_99
    @teti_99 2 дні тому +7

    Lol this is typical of Utah fans to say this shit 😂
    Utah took hella players from BYU when they went to the PAC12 simply because they were gonna start winning more. Keanu ALWAYS wanted to go to BYU. His Dad works for BYU. Also Carsen always wanted to go to BYU as this is his hometown, but they never used tightends much until recently. The offense is shifting and changing this next season so it was a good opportunity for Carsen since Kuithe is coming back after a medical redshirt year from what I hear. If that's the case, Cars would sit the bench another year behind Kuithe and waste away. Also with Keanu, he knew Jay Hill and Sione Pouha could develop him better than Morgan Scalley or Lewis Powell could, so he did what he wanted to do all along. And that was come home. For Utah fans to make the assumptions that Kalani would go out of his way to do that is absolutely stupid and typical of them to assume given they had a shit season and are salty nuts since they were picked to win it all. Kyle would've already brought this issue to the forefront if that were the case. Maybe consider the fact that Utah has been built on NIL money rather than loyalty to the program. BYU football offered Keanu less than half what he was getting at Utah and less than a quarter what USC and Cal offered him. BYU football doesn't do NIL like that. To all the Utah fans, take your L from the season and take your L in the transfer portal and accept the fact that the advantages Utah had over BYU since 2010 are no longer a factor anymore.

    I am a life long die hard Utah fan, we should in no way shape or form consider independence. This was a rough season with high expectations, 1% of our fans showing out poorly on social media and unfortunately our AD losing his composure. Not a great look right now, I get that, but this is just an unfortunate blip in what has otherwise been a very classy organization and fandom. Folks in Provo will probably say otherwise, but hey, that's the rivalry for ya. I'd say the same about them.

    Utah's AD was in the moment. And he's a moron. He's, otherwise, been VERY positive on the B12. But what he said was completely dumb. Utah had a bad season. This isn't spilled milk. It's not making excuses. It's acknowledging and moving on. Likely out of his depth. But we will move on from that episode as well.
    Utah is in the B12. A few fans don't like it. Most Utah fans do. It's time to get back to work and be the competitive football team they have been for a very long time. I have every confidence that will happen in 2025.

    Welcome to the holy war. This is the natural state of the rivalry, with some loud Utah fans usually resorting to religious attacks and claims of hypocrisy (e.g. these claims) and some loud BYU fans claiming lack of class or lower status (e.g. you just couldn't get into the Y). Utes tried to act above it all while they were in the PAC 12 but it's returned to it's natural state and the current chirping definitely is sour grapes over the relative trajectories of the two programs. The majority of fans of both programs just enjoy keeping it to some fun banter though (while secretly hating each other).

    For returned missionaries and/or LDS church members that are Utah players, the culture and fanbase at BYU might be a little bit more in line with those players' faith. There is quite a large contingent of Utah fans that absolutely hate and despise the church of jesus christ of latter day saints and everything associated with them. I'm sure players of the LDS faith at Utah get a bit offended when they hear Ute fans screaming and chanting "F the mormons", "F BYU." They do this despite the fact that many of the players are members of the church, the coach is a member of the church, and many fellow Ute fans are members of the church. Kyle Whittingham is a member of the church. Kyle loves all his fans, but I'm sure he doesn't condone those actions and behaviors that are derogatory towards his faith (he never says anything to be critical of Ute fans... he doesn't want to bring faith into the rivalry. As a State of Utah employee he keeps religion and faith out of conversations about football and athletics... which is the right thing to do in his position.)
    However, in the past, there have been several BYU athletes (and coaches) that have changed their mind and gone to Utah after playing at BYU. Players, coaches, and individuals go to teams and institutions that fit them best at that time in their life. Kalani Sitkake, BYU head coach played at BYU, but coached at Utah under Kyle Whittingham for 10 years. He loves Utah. He loves BYU. As far as "tampering" goes??? Hahaha... there are no rules anymore in college recruiting. Talk to who you want - whenever you want. Promise whatever you want to promise. Everything is a year-to-year deal at every institution.

    BYU wanted 10 Utah players, got 2. Tanuvasa is a good one. Carson Ryan probably is.....Tanuvasa played 6 games at Utah last season. He's hurt a lot. I wish him the best on his journey.
