Hey bud I'm actually still waiting on a ballistics torso like bad guy ski mask. Neck heart lungs. Pig organs. It's beyond self defense can you bring no spin and no reload throws into the home defense areana? Of course tape a fake gun to the bad guy. Good luck. If you come across a deer or a pig I still have you know if you can take big game with a throwing knife.
I grew up watching this. When his video went down you popped up. God has a funny way of doing things. With the way things are in America roll models like you are amazing. Ralph thorn used to heavily tape his blades. ua-cam.com/video/Z3qggwUTpME/v-deo.html
I have thrown the plumbata with a shepherds sling and it went very far. It works a lot better without fletching. The fletch gets caught on release making it dangerous. The style of throw is important so it does not hit you if it should cling to the sling after release. I believe this is how they were meant to be used in antiquity.
siempre me impresiona que logre hacer maravillas con cualquier cosa, con pensar que la plumbata no fue diseñada para ser precisa y este men llega y le acierta al blanco desde 25 metros, un capo.
Great work, Brother. And maybe Romans used special levers for throwing plumbatas, like Aztec atlatls - for throwing spears? They gave them greater power, velocity and accuracy too, so - who knows - maybe Romans could got the same idea?;)
Hello friend from Western Pennsylvania! Awesome video! I receive my Acejet STINGERS today! Wooo! Extremely excited.... Be well friend, thank you for working with my wife Tina...
The distance for those first 2 throws where just so perfect , you can see that he have thrown knivesso much with precise power so they stick perfectly that it translated in plumbatas :D cool :)
Amazing video my friend I would like to see a comparison between knives, plumbata and javelins like a pilum replica. I think it would be interesting to see the differences between the two most used throwing weapons in Roman era (and obviously knives because we are watching the best knife throwing channel ah ah) Cheers
From the black and white pictures, Some of the earlier designs looked Nordic, about the time before Marcus Aurelius went to Briton(formerly titled Germnia) To find out the length Use a micrometer,,convert the numbers to centimeters and then inches from the pictures, you will then be able to format the length and width of the shaft to the ends for length Facts
very cool projectile. could you try holding it by the weight and throwing it like a football? letting it roll down your fingers, creating spin, upon release
Please do a test by grasping the plumbata between your index finger and your middle finger in the middle so that it travels with force and from the beginning with the tip facing forward
I don't this as the final correct answer but as a possibility. The plumbata could be used as a close quarter military barrage. If after throwing the pilum the second and third rank of the phalanx threw these just as the first rank made contact it would assuredly loosen the enemies formation if not his resolve.
Hello Adam. Hoping you see this, as I think you would like Tod’s work. Tod has a channel called Tod’s Workshop. Medieval recreation stuff mostly. Tod also did some work with plumbata. Hope you’re keeping well. I’ve been watching your videos for around a year now. I too throw things good. Looking forward to a chat about some things some time.
I understand your attempt to accuracy. But imagine 100 men equipped each with 5 plumbata (ontop of their standard equipment) against another body of men. With hardly any training and none of the issues of bows and arrows (wet cords, you need fletchers etc etc), with the plumbatae, the 100 men can have an effect akin to archers, once the plumbatae thrown, the again become normal foot soldiers. Cheap, efficient, lethal. As the romans liked it ;-)
I was wondering, how heavy would you say the Plumbata is in terms of if it got stuck in your shield? Many now theorize that throwing weapons were intended to get stuck in the enemy shields and weigh them down, making it harder to block attacks.
Hard to say.....with plumbata i would say it was not heavy (maybe 300-400 grams) it was more like archer shock (LOT of pointy objects in the air) and it would made them raise their shields..i would also say could be also effectice against horses on the battlefield
@@AdamCeladin Thank you for your insight! Given the arc of the throws it also seems to be the kind of weapon that would swoop above shields and into unprotected spots at the top of armors.
Legioneers wears plumbatas on the back side of theirs shields, so that means it's not big problem to have them stuck in your shield. Maybe a couple of dozens could become a problem.
I didn't even know this thing existed If you've ever used actually I can't mention this in a UA-cam comment lol but I imagine maybe more of a parachute like mechanism was used (feathers etc) and this was slung off of a rope or something But like I said. I don't even know what a plumbata is lol
A thought just occured.. 🤔 I watch footage of ppl with skill of some sort. And yet; I've seen & met some ppl that watch videos that consists of ppl watching non educational ppl watching other videos.. Someone watching someone watch a video abt someone watching some crap.. The plumbata is too big and not elegant. Far more interesting would be the smallest possible Atltatl. That would require some research and development on your part. On another note: provide us with a leather sheath for knives, should have a slot 3.5-4cm wide, simple, 3mm thick cow hide, 15-20cm long? It needs to be cheap, nothing fancy, no superfluous features (like belt attach loop etc).

I'm impressed Adam and that's a clever Roman weapon, I think you'd be impressed with my slingshot dart video as well.

I literally just searched to see if you specifically had a video on this. And you do! Nice...😊

Así es amigo la plumbata es un dardo y por lo tanto hay que lanzarlo como a un dardo, eso prueba la efectividad !
Saludos desde Argentina 🇦🇷 amigo !!

Totally possible
Without fletching, the shaft is used as a lever arm. No additional tool is needed
Hello friend from Western Pennsylvania! Awesome video! I receive my Acejet STINGERS today! Wooo! Extremely excited.... Be well friend, thank you for working with my wife Tina...
Wohooo Awesome Travis!!! Glad they arrived safe :)
It would be so cool to have seen how this was being utilized in a large scale battle.
Japan also had a throwing arrow and weapon called "uchine".
It also appears in the Japanese manga "Sasuke" (sanpei shirato).
I love plumbatas they are in my opinion the best throwing weapon ever made. Not so big that they are difficult to carry and still präzise and deadly.
Very cool Adam! Looks like so much fun!
Thank you JS, i had blast making this video !!!
I have long thought this would be a excellent weapon.
Really interesting weapon ,)) see you tomorrow Heith ,)
If you throw it at the enemy then they have one to throw back at you
@@Skatelifefool Not if there dead
That was great. You made some amazing throws at a good distance. 👍
Thank you Larry :)
Roman armies were known to forage. Perhaps plumbata we're used with a handline for fishing and small game.
Cool, video Adam. Maybe as a suggestion to use it against chainmail, roman segmented armor or maybe some modern helmet? :)
thank you my friend :))
The distance for those first 2 throws where just so perfect , you can see that he have thrown knivesso much with precise power so they stick perfectly that it translated in plumbatas :D cool :)
The pro thrower makes difference. 👍👍👍
try it with a narrower shaft, feather fletchins and a loop at the back to rotate before release like a sling and you will get 200 meters
Ah, the trouble with history is it's usually remembered by the winning side. Happy throwing Adam, good to see you around.
Thank you T :))

surely you can also throw it in the same way as a spear

Remember, the plumbati were used against a charging group, not necessarily a single individual. Kind of a shot gun effect.
Salut l'ami belle vidéo, 👍👍👍
Salut mon ami :)) Merci
I am really curious what if we throw plumbata with Ar-15 can cannon
I discovered that 1/2 inch lead pipe fits perfectly on a 1/2 inch dowl rod. The rest was easy.
So now understand why lawn darts were taken off the market
I was playing with those as a kid back in the early 70s…..they were called “ Lawn Darts “ 😎👍
I’ll bet an atlatl would produce much more accuracy and achieve greater distance
Excellent make a throwing string !!!

Se lanzan mejor si los impulsas con cuerda, ese mecanismo de disparo si existe y es similar a la Honda
Maaaan plumbatas are awesome but they are hard to use. so can you use it with special plumbata slinger
You will see in my video quite easy to use ,))

Can you do a video of throwing a long sword?

Your plumbata definitely keals!
that moment where a roman guy tought :"screw the bow"
Nice video , but i remember you you did video with plumbata like 5 years ago.
Than you Tom, yes i did many years but with cheap reproduction, this version is way better :)
You need to make the plumbata in diffrent lenght. I think 10cm longer would be much better!

Salut l'ami, thrusters to have more power in their spear these just a stick that ends with a hook. 👍
overhead throw is more likely, but release with single flip, like knife.

was Plumbata used for war? that would be a funny weapon a to bring on the battle field :)

The pilum was designed to stuck in shields. It's longer and heavier and the metal part can easily bend to the sides to make it harder to remove fast.

I know I wouldn't want to be down range of those.
Looks like it needs to be more tip heavy to straighten out in the air. Like a lawn dart.
Can you throw it with an Atlatl?
We need to try it !!! :)
Well, if those things hit an unarmored part it'll propably huret quite a lot. And in an age without anything to fight infections...
Romans look at normal darts and say: "That's not a dart this Plumbata is a dart".

thanks god we weren't born on roman war era.., can't imagine getting hit by this demon darts bareskined

Problem is, if you miss, the enemy can pick it up and throw it back at you.
In past they made them very weak they would actually break on impact it would like for one throw only
they wouldnt have time, you throw them as distractions then charge in
Throw from 5 metres away, if missed you can attack in melee before they can throw it back.
