  • Ok, this one starts off as what might be viewed as almost an homage to Roger Waters, which is gradually infiltrated by secondary variations. These level 2 shifts represent, in my mind the initial launching points for further distancing from the primary groove, at this point usually with rep headings, but with the largely the same timings. As the tune goes on I usually step it up in stages getting further and farther from the original form by most any means at hand, be it harmonic content, melodic variations, stepping away from the primary beat(playing off or around it by various steps or degrees) even going progressively chaotic.
This provides some insight to my approach at times. It stems in part from many years playing along with digital rhythms which are insistently precise, so over time I came to view those as a sort of rhythmic anchor from which I was then free to move away from as long as there was some form of inference to the primary beat. It also provides at least some degree of predictable reference for those listeners not accustomed to more free range music/sound.
