Thanks for this video. Where did you scan it? It looks like a good camera, but the scan is not perfect. I suppose the camera could give you better results.
Been thinking about purchasing one of these some time next month, I’ve also been thinking about a Reflex model Bolex H16 too. I think I’ll get this one first whereas a fixer upper H16 REX costs about as much as one of these 1218s in nicely working order. (Plus I already have a working non-rex H16)
I have a few for sale. They are not listed on my site yet but if you’re interested, shoot me a message at thefilmwave.com I always gravitate towards super 8 when doing most projects. I think because it is mostly forgiving and designed for people on the go and ease of use. If I’m doing a more serious/ promotional shoot, 16mm all the way. Check out beaulieu r16 cameras, much better value for the money. I have a few 16mm cams on me as well. Good luck!
Canon 1218 is a beast of a super 8 camera. Most of its weight is on the lens. My goodness the lens! Big enough to suck in light and etch the image onto the film strip. It's not a camera one brings to see if there are things to shoot. You bring this because you will use it. It weight heavily in one's hand, and also in one's camera bag. Not some thing you will take for a walk down the Vegas strip.
Beautiful camera. I'm looking at getting either a super 8 or 16mm and mount it on the handle-bar of my bike ( do travel vids). Maybe it'll be the world's first super 8mm bike 😆
Just hope you know that every 3 minutes of film on super 8 will set you back $125 to $200. Would be cool but you’d spend more than what you did on your bike in about 40 hours of shooting 😂
What would you say is an advantage to using one compared to a 1014? Honestly I’m a bit of a cheapskate and I want the most bang for my Buck so I really don’t care about having 24fps. I assume it was for some sort of early sound striping but you can’t do that anymore so it doesn’t matter.
I can't get the light meter to work. That battery compartment looks corroded. Not sure what to do. Got the camera on facebook market. Good condition. original case. instruction book etc. motor works. the AA batteries work. zoom works.
@@danwalsh3755 if there’s enough corrosion that the camera doesn’t work, it should be sent to a professional to be serviced. We would take a look for the cost of shipping. Send a message to us at thefilmwave.com
just got one of these and im super excited to shoot with it
great video, I didn't realise I was striping gears if i didn't have my dial switched to manual
Thanks! It will certainly wear it out sooner!

It was expired Film. But not expired enough. And I agree on the footage.. didn’t come out good. Pro8mm scanned and developed
Nice vid. is there much of a noticeable difference between 18fps and 24?
None other than the ability to shoot in 24fps. Just a rare special feature for quality production shoots back in the day

do you have a site you buy the button batteries from im having a really hard time getting them
Amazon. Look for varta 1.5 volt button cell px625 batteries
@@thefilmwave Shouldn't be 1,35V battery? Does the difference in voltage influence the light meter behaviour?
@@petercerovsek8678 yes it should. But those are much more expensive and don’t last nearly as long. The difference is minimal

It will give you some forearms and really good footage!
where did you order the teleciner of your eight millimeter film?
This film came from pro8mm. I prefer cinelab (I am in the US). From my experience, they are all great.

@@benryan1742 Oh I know, I wanted to use film sporadically, but even then it'd be too costly.
just got one of these for free COMPLETE in the original cardboard box there's 4 packs of Kodachrome and even the receipt its all there!
Score!

Me too. But with film it’s expensive to be cheap.
Get the 814 autozoom. Best bang for the buck.. by far
@@thefilmwave sounds good
@@thefilmwave I guess there’s a reason the 814 AZ is iconic and people love them!
@@thefilmwave I also read something about avoiding the AZ-Electronic models because they are problematic?
@@oldradiosnphonographs not necessarily. All old cameras can potentially be problematic it Depends who you get it from.
