Thank you for the tutorial! I just bought a Canon 1014 AZ and did a test shot with a fresh roll of 50D but later found out that the film was not proceeding the whole time and ended up not being exposed at all (the motor works fine tho). The sprocket turned out to be broken as the image indicated.I know some ppl also have encountered this in the past so just wanted to ask if this a common issue for all Canon super 8 cams. Also, if possible, there's any way this could be avoided/fixed? Really appreciate it!

I had one, but while the outside was solid and lenses in good shape, the inside was crumbling and eventually fell apart. had this video surfaced then a few years ago, I would have definitely contacted you. Before Eumig folded, they planned multiple colors for the model, as well as ones that did sound speed 24 frames per second. Too bad they went bankrupt.

Thanks for the insightful video! I’m having a bit of trouble with the light meter on my Nizo S65 and wondered if you could help…I’ve loaded it with new AA and V625 batteries - motor drive works, but I don’t see the light meter indicator moving when recording. Could this mean that the meter is broken? Weirdly if I move the power switch to the black dot, the light meter indicator points to the 8, so something is working? Thanks for the help!

It's not a camera one brings to see if there are things to shoot. You bring this because you will use it. It weight heavily in one's hand, and also in one's camera bag. Yes you can but I’d recommend a professional to do that. I’d charge $100 and clean all lens elements. The reason I say this is because it’s easy to strip screws, damage the lens etc. Also if you take the focus lens cluster out you will have to collimate the lens also. It can be pain in the butt, especially because canon put loctite in the lens screws.

When the filter switch is set on the sun, it activates (puts into the lens path) an 85B orange filter allowing you to shoot tungsten film outdoors and not have the blue cast that shows up when no filter is used. It’s not a UV filter. When the filter switch is switched to the light bulb, the 85b filter is deactivated. Most all of the old Kodachrome 8mm and Super 8mm film was tungsten.

PX 625 Hearing aid batteries are 1.4v and suit most cameras. You may need an adapter to fit in certain cameras, although as long as the cap screws in properly it usually holds them in. Using any batteries higher than 1.4v can cause irregular exposure readings, i.e; over exposed by a stop or so. If your camera has a manual exposure function, use that in that situation.

Is there an autofocus setting on this camera? I also wonder if the point of focus is altered by the zoom. If a certain object is in focus, should it stay focused if I zoom in/out while filming? It doesn't seem to be the case in my camera. I hope you will be able to help me, thanks a lot in advance!

Hello Unfortunately there’s no autofocus feature, however you can use the infinity focal setting and it will focus the majority of your subjects. A tip for focusing is to zoom in on a subject, then focus accordingly, then zoom out and start shooting. This is how you focus directly on any subject using a reflex zoom camera. Let me know if this helps!

Great Video !! very Helpful ) I have a Guy who has this Camera and Canon 518 XLS both in excellent condition, but I don’t know which one to buy , he is selling both for the same price . Would love to hear your suggestion . Thanks

Definitely the 814 autozoom. The 514 xls (the black Canosound) is cheap and not nearly built as well as the 814. The 814 is one of the best canon Super8’s for many different reasons

Thanks for the video. I am new in Super 8 world and Learned a lot about Nizo from your video. By the way.. I decided to buy a Nizo 801 macro ( my dream camera). The seller is located nearby my city. I have tested some basic functions at the time of purchase. Everything was fine at the beginning . But at some point, he tested the R button ( located on top of camera ) to check the dissolve function. After that the film drive motor stopped working( but all other functions work as usual) We tried a lot , following the instruction on manual, battery reset etc. but nothing work. Can you please tell me is there any way to fix this problem? Thanks in advance.

You can send it to me. I can fix these cameras. This shouldn’t be too hard to fix. I also service them. If you’re interested, send me a message on my website thefilmwave.com My prices are affordable and I do trades/ exchanges/ purchases and sales. I don’t recommend you go about and fixing only because it can be difficult for the beginner without an electronic or camera service background

Hey. All I see is 1.35V batteries

      @thefilmwave 2 роки тому

That’s perfect. I just use 1.5 volt because they last longer. 1.35 is manufacturer recommended

@@thefilmwavebut you said in the video u said to use the 1.3 because the light meter is delicate ? So can you use a 1.5 or will it mess up the light meter ?

Do you know what happens if I use a 500 iso film cartridge on it? I've already bought a few, but then I see that the 814 only reads 400 iso films. 😅

So.. technically all super 8 cameras can shoot any film stock. But the cameras rated higher typically shoot better. Also, back then 400 was the highest Asa at that time for super 8 users. This camera was released in 67 so things were different 50 years ago. To answer your question, yes it will shoot 500T great! Shoot a test roll first, and play with the exposure just to expose your next rolls how you like

@@thefilmwavethanks for the answer. I'm going to use the 814 with a 500t as a c cam on a music video next week just to see if the camera is working just fine and to find tune on exposure to be confident to rec a full music video in super 8 with other stocks

Which camera do you think has better picture quality this one or a Canon 814 auto zoom?

    • @thefilmwave

That is a great question. I’ll note this question for a future video. There are many layers as to which is better, and some will disagree but as far as picture quality many people Prefer the 814.. I however think the s800 is better if you get a good one. Part of the reason that the s800 is unpopular is because it’s not as “light proof” as the 814. The side cover panels Meet the middle panel where the lens is located and often times people over look loose screws or misalignment. If there is any wiggle room between the aluminum covers of course there will be a light leak. This can be fixed by aligning covers properly and tightening screws. Also you can take the extra mile and tape the crease where connecting panels are located with some light seal tape
