Well, there’s no reason to get offended. Sometimes, Latinos get mistaken for other races besides Filipino. My cousin gets asked if he’s Armenian all the time. He never gets mad. I got asked if I was from morocco one time. I didn’t get mad. People get mad too easy for too many little things. That’s bad for your stomach. Ulcers, you know.
@@Hun_Uinaq I believe it all stems to *intentions*. If people are just unsure and mistake people's ethnicity due to uncertainty with no malice, there shouldn't be a reason to be mad about it. But there are situations where some people just don't care, remain ignorant, and are unwilling to learn, and intentionally assume someone's ethnicity as mockery and to intend to insult others(aka racists), then that's a reason for people to be upset. Like in high school, there were students who'd just call me Chinese or Jackie Chan, or assume I speak Japanese and continually doing so, even if I've told them I'm Filipino and I don't know Chinese or Japanese. They purposely do so to mock and insult, and those are the situations I got upset and I call them out, because they're basically racists(on top of being called gook and chink but that's another story). Then there are people who'd come up and ask if I were [insert Asian ethnicity here] out of curiosity. I don't get upset on that and I just politely correct them. And these can be good conversation topics and icebreakers and people learn something new. But I agree, I feel like there are people out there who are too sensitive and easily get upset on the most minor things lol

As a Filipino who grew up in the US because my dad served in the US Navy (God rest his soul), I would just like to add one other culture to this mix: Arabic. I did a DNA test on myself and found out that I am at least 1/3 Arabic, which totally shocked me. It didn't make sense at the time until I remembered that Arab traders had traveled to SE Asia, bringing Islam to Malaysia and Indonesia and eventually to the southern Philippine Islands. Though my family is from Central and Northern Luzon in the northern part of the country and predominantly Catholic, somehow a distant Arabic relative must have made his or her way through the region. Although my heritage showed no trace of an Arabic surname, it is filled with Spanish ones. The DNA test also showed I am predominantly Chinese and Indo-Chinese but hardly any Filipino/Malay blood. I feel like a mutt, go figure!
Ah finally someone mentioned Malay in the comments. Actually Filipino resemblance Malay way more than Mexican. But Malay don't get much recognition in USA much because our migration rate there is very very low. Since the British was the one colonized us, we tend to migrate to UK more than USA.
Here's the answer of your confustion. The ancestors of the Filipinos and some parts of Southeast Asia were Austronesians, they're from southern China/Taiwan. The Philippines' first religion is Paganism. When the Arab traders went to the Philippines to trade, they somehow converted the Filipinos to Islam, not just the people in the southern part of the country but all over Philippines. Then, the Spaniards discovered and invaded the Philippines. They managed to convert the Muslims of Luzon and Visayas into Christianity. However, the Muslims from Mindanao resisted and fought hard for their religion, the reason why majority of Filipino Muslims are mainly occupying the southern region of Mindanao. The Chinese later arrived in the Philippines to settle and sought refuge because of the ecominic and political crisis in their homeland.

@@rexmon2592 He/She likely does. Let's do a lil' math. 350 years of spanish presence/colonization is roughly 17 generations. 2 (two) to the power of 17 equals 131,072. Going back just 17 generations puts the genes of 131,072 persons in him/her. In other words, we're only looking at from when the Spanish showed up. There is a good chance that at least one of his/her 131,072 ancestors over 350 years either was Spanish, or had Spanish "blood". Hence, ... a good chance he/she has some Spanish in him/her.

I am Filipino born and raised in the Philippines but my great great grandfather is from Mexico ❤️
As a Filipino with Japanese and Chinese ancestry, I can't relate on being mistaken a Mexican or Latino, but the amount of times I've mistaken Latinos, in particular Mexicans, as Filipinos, is too much lol
I'm glad Mexicans don't take it as an offense, cause I always feel awkward when they say they're not Filipinos 😅
I've been mistaken for every kind of brown person under the sun, but I kind of love it lol. The only time it makes me angry if it's someone who theoretically should know me (coworker, regular customer, client, classmate, teacher, etc) and who was told about me plenty of times before, but still mistakes for anything and everything else but white, Mexican, or American. That's when I get mad. :)

Yes! My maternal grandma's side are all Chavacanos. What's interesting is the variety of Spanish that Chavacano is based on is actually Mexican Spanish, because a lot of soldiers employed by the Spaniards that were stationed in Zamboanga were from Mexico. The Spanish of Chavacano in Manila like Ermiteño, Cavite, etc., were based on Castillian Spanish, because of the Spaniards in Intramuros who spoke Castillian dialect.

It didn't make sense at the time until I remembered that Arab traders had traveled to SE Asia, bringing Islam to Malaysia and
Indonesia and eventually to the southern Philippine Islands.
@@micronano8345 Actually Hinduism and Buddhism was present in the Philippines before Islam. We have a lot of hindu and buddhist artifacts from the Philippines demonstrating that fact. Also research Laguna Copperplate Inscription and Baybayin. Philippine native scripts that came from Southern India.
@@gregorypetty6887 Then, ok. Nobody's arguing with you. Lol. There's no need to enlighen me, I heard and learnt about that. That was only a minority, didn't spread that much in the entire country. We're talking about the dominant religions here according to the country's history. So, no need to take that into account.
that bubble tea and black balls oh lord i almost had a heart attack lol
Explains why Mexican men are attracted to Filipino women and why Filipino men are so attracted to Mexican women. 💯
That's is true. My son is Mexican American and he loves Filipino women.
Very true! I'm Filipino born and raised in LA, these Mexican women here are fine ass fuck. I ended up marrying one and now we have 4 beautiful half Filipino half Mexican kids.
@@bossman-vj3dz Your kids must be gorgeous.
@@edithdlp8045 yes they are. Thankyou!
@@bossman-vj3dz omg when filipino mixed with other races the outcome would be Miss Universe. I mean gorgeouses🔥
That Filipino uncle segment was painfully funny. And true. I can name like three of my titos who do the same.
I'm Latin and I sometimes confuse Filipinos as one of us and I start babbling to them in Spanish and they tell me "Sorry me no speak Spanish". Filipinos have more round eyes than other Asians, and they behave like latinos not like Asians so it's even more confusing.
The reason for Filipinos acting like Latinx people is because their culture was heavily influenced by Spain, also Malays/Filipinos/Indonesians tend to have rounder eyes for whatever reason.
Yeah, it was true. My last name was Rodriguez and I don't even have a single drop of Spanish blood in me.
Really? Do you know your ancestral family tree? Cause you just might if you don't know about your ancestors!
@@UnchainedMelodie92 Yeah, my grand father said that my ancestors was originaly from China who moved to the Philippines, and they were forced to take a Spanish surname due to the order of the Spanish Governor-General at that time.
@@eyesinthedark4713 waa, thats crazy but also kind of neat
@@ricardocaiano1228 yeah .. the book where the surnames are taken from was the Catálogo alfabético de apellidos .. you can see the list of surnames there, though the book was in spanish, so i really dont undertand the first part of the book
Yup, not everyone has Spanish ancestry. That's a common misconception 😂
This is the ballsiest bit I've seen so far 😂
My bf is Mexican and when I met his family in Mexico I was so confused the women were tan beautiful Asian looking and same for some of the guys Asian looking then I found out they were mixed with Philippines too ...very nice and kind people they were miss them so much
Most of mexicans that i've met looks western they don't look filipinos at all given the fact that our dna is 100% and only 1% iberian
When a guy dms me, he'd usually starts flirting in Spanish thinking I'm Latina lmao I'm straight up Filipino.
you look really asian, you look nothing like a latina
I legit am the opposite of Philipinos

You are right on bro I am Mexican and we have many Philippino relatives and I had many uncle's just like you said awwww
I knew a lot of Mexicans back home and even attended a Spanish congregation for church for a while. When I went to church in the Philippines it felt the exact same except the language was different haha
I always tell my friends if they want to learn or practice their Spanish skill, just converse with the people of the Philippines. They are half Espanol
It’s true 90% in the classroom has mexican/spanish last names 😆
Garcia, Fernandez, Salvador, De Leon, Fuentes, Rivera, Martinez, Alvarez, Gutierrez and so on !!!!
But we are Asian. 🙄
@윤지혜 nope not like spanish last name also the same culture too and language also faces and nose
@윤지혜 60% speak spanish in 1898, first Philippine constitution written in Spanish along with the first revolutionary pamphlets, etc. The history of the Philippines is also written in Spanish, it is a language that belongs to you, it should not be considered a foreign language.
I was mistaken for being Mexican once in awhile I'm Filipina mestiza. My friends and neighbors are Mexican!😘
