This song is not only used perfectly in Mr. Robot, but it is also used perfectly in a beautiful film called Waves, too. Masterful.
Loved "Waves'
couldn't agree more! favorite show, favorite movie
And the maid
Awesome song
I found this song from the Netflix series “maid”
@@charlesfoxjr.6254 yes
This song could and should be an hour long.
ohhhh yeah
I agree
Absolutely agree
+chud jackson Yes Sir!
+Maurice Manana self advertising on other people's video comments lol
Why does this song have to be so short! I've hit the replay button so many times because I just don't want it to end.
+KipperTheArt I know what u mean i did the same thing it is so beautiful true
I can hear it over and over..
all the good songs are short
I totally agree
+KipperTheArt Almost all the good song are short; just like "I'm On Fire" by Bruce Springsteen and "I Would die 4 U" by Prince!
+KipperTheArt If it were longer you wouldn't replay it. I think that's why the Beatles songs are so catchy.
The very beginning sounds like a heartfelt smile if that makes sense
Comforting right..
Totally agree 🥰
I always imagine to people looking at each other after realizing something they spent so long trying to figure out and leads to some good love making 😅
Is this not baby making music to anyone else?
Actually It does. With a 1970's innocent youth feel to it.
Almost made me cry
Omg this song needs to be wayyyy longer
AliAdenwala yeah I know like a Movie or a short Movie, the story is totally interesting
INGRID RAMOS seen Passengers?
Narada Owens it's great . But in this story he is completely alone . non possibilities of human contact
Ten times longer at the very least. Hypnotic! space and time are the only things that go with it.
But the restraint is fucking epic...
Beautifully mysterious to my soul
Lonely woman
@@Profile.4 confound your toll, troll. No toll can get you into this woman's soul.
@creed22solar123 Nice rhymes
This is perhaps one of the most unique songs ever created. I wish it was longer in length so I could enjoy it more. A remarkable and imaginative tune. It is a song that could be a film.
Whenever I need to be reminded that I still feel something, this song always does the trick
Amen it’s reminding me now. Couldn’t have said it better
You’re right last month I had 2 cars and now I have none and my dad los his job and my mom has been blind for the past 12 years. This song keeps me going
Perfectly put.
Amen
That Apple commercial was fly as fuck though. Cool song. Cool video. I guess he woke up after a lot of time had passed and everyone he knew was dead. Vaguely similar to the movie interstellar.
Damn autocorrect. I meant to put very, not vaguely.

+Neville Cross The revolution has already begun, moron.

the revolution has already started this song makes us want to participate
Alabama Shakes just speaks to me so much because of the huge crossover to the blues within the song. Most modern (for lack of a better word) hipster music/indie/alternate rock or whatever sounds very heavy on the strings part, but this is definitely more focused on rhythmic percussion/keyboard sounds in the beautiful mesh of foreground/background.
There is no lack of a better word. That better word is contemporary.
I found this song at a children's dance competition. I was passing by one of the stages when this song started playing. It immediately stopped me in my tracks and I looked over to the stage. A little girl began dancing to it and the whole scene mesmerized me. I was frozen in the music until I remembered I was actually working the event outside and needed to get back to my post. The sound faded as I walked away but this song grabbed my ❤️ and will be with me forever.
The sounds towards the end always get to me. When the astronaut is slowly realizing that everything he knows and loves is gone- it has a certain sound, with the string instruments, very dissonant and eerie and then turns harmonious, consonant and hopeful when the astronaut looks up and sees the light. Could it be that he isn't willing to give up and may try to find life on the planet he's approaching or do others see this "light at the end of the tunnel" as acceptance and is allowing himself to see the beauty in this tragedy?
I'd love to read everyone's response to this. I'm curious of how everyone perceives the ending.
Also, this video is WAY too short and needs to become a short movie. :3
I'd go with the second one.
I always thought it seemed more tragic to me, but I totally agree with you - the dissonant chords at the end, the way the refrain is built up, peppering all those thoughts, love, touch, sight, memories and everything, against the bleak and clinical backdrop of space and his ship; the two work so well together (just like sound and colour!), but today, I came back and watched the video again, and I saw that final eclipse as a chance for him to try again at life and love and everything, which usually, I saw as just a premonition of his total state of isolation. Interesting.
I also love the bit around about 1:56; after he's woken up and had some "food" and been reminded of his memories, he feels a sort of uncertainty about where exactly he is, what's happened to wake him up, and what he can do to escape this situation to return to those memories, or if he can at all. I think there's also a bit of questioning relating to why exactly he is there, and there's some level of self-reassuring going on and a bit of resolution to continue/complete the mission or "job" that he's partaking in (though that resolution melts away quite quickly once he realizes what's happened), and the chord change at that point reflects that uncertainty and inner conflict perfectly.
His food supply has eroded. He’s just found out his loved ones are LONG gone, in the distant past. He glimpses the beauty of what he spent all these years searching for, what he sacrificed his entire life for, and is in a moment of beautiful revelation, and suddenly he realises that he will soon die and be with the ones he left behind and has come to a moment of ecstatic transcendence and surrender.
This video reminds me of life: someday you wake up and don't know what is going on, how u got to that place. Searching things that should explain what happened, you discover that everything you know was destroyed, and from now on you will have to deal with it, being (or not) your fault.
Sometimes I wake up just like the guy. What I did to get here? I don't know, life passes so fast, and it doesn't matter anymore cause there is no time machine in this world. We all have to keep going forward to the light, there is no other option.
This is 7 years old and still sound so new, that's really timeless.
2:28 ooooh, my heart breaks! This is excellent storytelling thru music and film.
LathanMedia Awesome comment. I love this band and was honored to play this role.
kenneth morgaan oh my geez, you are the coolest
When I first listened to this, I felt so excited that I had found such an uplifting and soulful piece of music, but after about the 6th listen, it only fills me with dread and melancholy, the loneliness in this song is subtle, but overwhelmingly potent. Few songs have made me feel this corrosive brew of both despair and joy. That unlikely and almost contradictory feeling is something I've searched for a word that accurately describes the feeling, and the best I could come up with is the Portuguese word "Saudade", which is similar to "nostalgia", the joy of a memory, combined with the sadness of loss. It doesn't quite fit what I'm looking for though, what I'm talking about is a feeling, a raw emotion, we have these for feelings such as happiness, and sadness, but as far as I'm aware, not one for both.
Awesome! thank you for sharing this.
It's about her bro... It's about her.. I understand what u said to me completely because I feel the exact same way

“You never know true beauty until you see Earth from space, or true terror until you hear someone knocking on the space station door from outside. You look through the porthole and see an astronaut, but all your crew is inside and accounted for. You use the comm to ask who it is and he says he’s Ramirez returning from a repair mission, but Ramirez is sitting right next to you in the command module and he’s just as confused as you are. When you tell the guy this over the radio he starts banging on the door louder and harder, begging you to let him in, saying he’s the real Ramirez. Meanwhile, the Ramirez inside with you is pleading to keep the airlock shut. It really puts life on Earth into perspective.”

All these people talking about where they got the song from or whatever. Anyone actually realize how depressing the song is? While the guy was sleeping, his whole family lived there entire lifetime. I don't think there could be a situation worse than that. All he has is memories of the sounds and colors when he was with them. Some deep shit.
Yea he was in hypersleep headed for another planenet but some how he was thrown off trajectory.. something .ade him deviate from his flight course.. i assumed a meteor knocked him off course and now he can't get back home

Andrew Murphy best show out there!
I hated Mr.Robot when I first saw it, the first season wasn't very good for the first 5 episodes and I gave up on it because I thought the plot was crap. Then people kept saying how great it was, so I decided to stick with it till the finale... and... IT BLEW MY MIND! Season 2 was WAAAAYYY better than season 1, and it blew my mind with every episode. I spammed the entire second season in a matter of days. Can't wait for season 3 now. The writers have successfully hooked me. u_u;
+Aki U
well now im going to watch mr.robot beacuse of your review.
wait WHAT? there are seriously people out there, who don't like season one but season 2?... the whole plot of season 2 could fit easy into 3-5 episodes, but the producers instead decided to stretch it out to a whole of fucking 12 episodes o.O
season 2 feels like half of a season... or like a very very veeeeeeeeeeeeery long teaser for the real season 2 :/
Bloodhoven I liked season 2 more because we got to see more of the rest of the cast. Elliot kind of took a backseat, but it was mostly the plot twist of his "Mom's house" that I liked so much.
This seriously needs to be a mini series or a show or a film. Please, please PLEASE flesh this out!!

me to just wondering if this is a movie or the video..
I remember hearing this song on a commercial on TV back in my middle school- high school days, and years back, I would forget who written and SUNG this masterpiece, my sister had played this song, on a car ride last mid-September of last month and I seen the name, Alabama Shakes, then I forgot it, again. Earlier today, I walking around, and The instrumental was playing in my head over and over, and I told myself “I need to go listen to this song.” or even “I need to add this song to my playlist.” They don’t make songs like this, beautiful sound, mystique, truthful but leaves the listener to find the answer to the sound of art. The music video and the music speaks for itself! MASTERPIECE! 10/10
This song wakes parts of me I never knew were sleeping and suddenly... I NEED MORE ❣️
The ending is just as beautiful as the beginning ❤️ This song was never long enough 😭
This should become a movie!!!
When I first heard this song and really focused on the lyrics and the mood it gives off, I did imagine it could tell the tale of an interstellar explorer, alone and adrift on a ship light years away from another human being on some grand mission. The song really does capture that feeling of being on the fringe of insanity and being desperate to not be lonely anymore, but instead the only stimuli around are the monotonous “sounds” of the computer equipment and the glaring “colors” of indicators and monitors. Then I saw that Alabama Shakes made this music video and it was pretty much exactly what I imagined! Beautiful song and beautiful imagery, I love these guys!
Same though.
such a beautiful gift to my soul, thank you
This is such a beautiful song. I first came across it when my dear friend transitioned into her new lifetime. If i close my eyes i can see why this song was a backdrop for her memorial video. Thank you Mr.Robot
One day you wake up and things don't feel quite right. The world feels slow, things seem quieter, and some faces are now unrecognizable. You start questioning what changed? What happened? You look around see those crowds of people? They are smiling and talking about what you wonder, what makes you different than them? Why can't you be like them, why can't you be happy? No one can answer your questions so you look at yourself. You realise nothing ever changed, you just woke up and open your eyes. But now you realise you've been focusing so much on everyone else that you failed to notice that you were alone. And you always will be, but that's ok. Because i will be with you we can just be lonely together. After all that's what we always do right brother?
you okay homie?
I think this video simply symbolizes the power of time. You must enjoy the present moment as much as you can. He took time for granite and now everything is just a memory. Also symbolizing how unconnected we are as humans. All these distractions like social media, technology, etc. (notice the futuristic technology in the video) are making us surrender communication with each other and being one. These two symbols tying in with each other create this video.
i used to listen to this song back when i was in middle school and i haven’t listened to it much since then. but in the most recent months, this song has been popping up everywhere; in movies, even on tiktok. and this song literally popped up in the end of the movie i just finished (waves), and i just had the urge to listen to it, and man it felt like i was in the year 2015 all over again 😭
Fun fact: This song plays in the best ending of a season, ever.

I just left my career job to chase my dreams of producing music and moving to Europe. This is the music that is on repeat right now. Life changes are so complimented by this music it is extraordinary.
What happened? Did your dream come true?
@@spacewitchvulcan haha crazy comment. Yeah, I moved to Europe and am still there working on music but also started another career. Life is crazy shit, and this song always has a massive impact when I hear it
@@maxweir6785 in the weirdest twist of fate I can imagine, I ended up here again. On the cusp of a massive life change. My girlfriend and I of 6 years just broke up. It's been a gruelling year, and then we decided to part ways. Now, alone in Berlin but with many friends, a new chapter begins - as big of a chapter as the one that brought me here. And as I near the end of the chapter, this song comes to me -melancholy hopeful, sadness, happiness, blended in such a way that it soothes, encourages, but also reminds me of pain.
I can't explain it, but maybe that's the whole point of music. I remember writing the initial comment, and now i'm here again. Life is just fucking crazy isn't it?
In a weird way this video makes more sense to me now. I had an initial trajectory, but now after things ended I realize i'm far away from where I had planned to be. But strangely there is hope, and maybe this journey's trajectory brought me closer to where I wanted to be in the end. smooth...oh so smooth...
So no one’s gonna talk about the incredible progression and key change towards the ladder half of the song from 1:44 and onwards? The composition is so beautifully dark with undertones of uncertainty an despair - which eventually evolves into the relieving key of F# making the listener feel relief and hope.
