Yep, when I saw the price here in Australia (A$330) compared to Elite v4 (A$360) I didn't understand why anyone would buy the trainer here. Now I understand. No one will 😅
I've got both and rate both pretty high. Rather the trainer over the superblast which is about the same price. It's alot of dollardoos for faster daily trainer.
Thanks for the review. I'd say at £230 this shoe is dead on arrival (DOA) for UK with NB being so greedy. ASICS magic speed 4, superblast 1/2, Saucony endorphin speed/pro are available for less (they are less greedy). Vote with your wallet!
100% agree. I imported a pair of ASICS Magic Speed 4 in 2E width from Japan as I couldn't find them in a wide in the UK, and they cost me £151 including fees and shipping. Crazy to think New Balance want another £80 on top for this shoe.
Finally I have found a channel that I really like, talking about each pair of shoes in details, unbiased, with very useful pros and cons, and who should buy, alternatives, etc. Subscribed immediately. This kind of channel is actually very helpful for newer runners like myself. I've watched more or less 10 videos on the channel now, none of which is disappointing, more importantly, I now know which pair I should go for next, for my rotation. Thank you.
I managed to pick these up from Sports shoes for £172 with their 25% app discount and absolutely love them. I wouldn't have paid full price for them, but they are super comfortable and felt great for a half marathon I did last weekend. Will be keeping them for my marathon long run training shoe!
I always appreciate your honest reviews. The running footage makes me jealous though because your running form seems to be light and bouncy no matter what you are running in.
Thank you very much for considering the price in evaluating the shoes. I mean for real, like only someone that actually had to pay for them can do, not like most of youtubers that receive a pair for free (and perhaps change them after only few miles). Yes, they may mention is "a bit pricey", but then end up somehow justifying the cost, only to keep the shoes supply going. If everyone was like you and go "wonderful shoes, but outrageously expensive, don't buy it", then consumers would perhaps turn to other cheaper alternatives, instead of being convinced that spending that much on a single pair of shoes is good for them. Shoe makers would have to cut prices and reposition the shoe in the market. Instead, it seems it's now "normal" and "acceptable" to spend over 200 on a pair of shoes. I'm totally with you. I really value what you're doing. Let's stop this trend of "more expensive = better". Let's make it "more expensive = worse".
Thanks for subsidizing us 'muricans.😂 I have commented on several sites that this shoe looks like my Rebel V4's, 1080 V13 and SC Trainer V2 had a Ménage à trois at a marathon major (pick one). Was I proved right when I finally tried on the V3 yesterday! Not in a good way either. I could tell almost immediately after slipping into it that the foam was a lot stiffer and harder than the V2. Yeah, the outsole would definitely hold up better than my V2. On that note, I have been running for over 42+ years and never had sole wear like I have on the V2. I'm only 63"(1.60m) and 110lbs (50kg). My gut tells me to get another pair of the V2 and the SC Pacer V2.
I disagree, in a sense. The plate actually takes a lot of stress away from the muscles, lowering metabolic rate, therefore aiding recovery. I believe that was the initial intended benefit of the carbon plated shoe, to allow runners to train harder and for longer with less recovery time. It seems that has been forgotten and people just simply think ‘speed’. Yes they make you faster… but that’s because they change the ratio of effort exerted over pace.
Put 700 k’s on v2 and loved them so bought v3 but only really because I had 20% discount code which pitched the price to where I would expect. 50 k’s in on the v3 so far and personally finding it a much firmer but faster ride.
Sticking with Hoka Skyward X (£185) which I got with a 25% discount! Done 268 miles in them including the last 26 miles of the Wall and the Big Half last weekend. If you are into distance running, aren’t a speed demon, and can only afford one pair of shoes, this is my Holy Grail!
V1 all day! ❤ I don't like the v2 nearly as much, and that one was already ridiculously overpriced at 230 euro. The SC Elite v4 at 280 is a bit ambitious too, considering that most people see it as a super trainer. New Balance is all over the place with both sizing and pricing.
At that price I’d just go the Elite v3. Ran a 5k,10k and 1/2 race in the rebel V4s and no complaints. Grabbed a couple of pairs of the SC Elite v2’s and they have been a joy to run in
Was so sad to have patiently waited and ordered the V3’s to find I couldn’t get a comfortable lockdown with these due to my narrow and tall volume feet. Had to size up a half size as they fit short too. Had to cinch down so tightly to keep heel from lifting that it caused to much pain, so had to return the V3’s for the Superblast 2 which fit like a glove. The V3’s felt soft and bouncy but a little clunky
Mine arrived today (it was 200 Eur on misterrunning). Had the elite v4, loved the midsole, but i couldn't get a proper lockdown and always had a blister. Luckily NB took it back after 30km. I thought the trainer v3 would be something similar but with better upper. Well, the upper is super comfy, but too narrow and maybe also a tad short. IDK why brands do this. Rebel and Elite have a wide toe box, trainer should be in the middle the comfy one and it's narrow as a racer. And Hoka messed up the heel on Mach x2 and randomly changes the fit of every generation of a shoe.
Both short and narrow means you need to size up, it's actually better than just narrow. It's also available in 2E so get half size up AND 2E, maybe that would be both long and wide enough for you?
Absolutely a bafflingly bad price deal in the UK. A pretty good deal in the US if you're in the small group of people looking for exactly this type of shoe. However, it's a very different fit to the Rebel that I also use, and not what I consider to be particularly light. I've done three 50k+ training runs in the SC Trainer v3s, and they're fantastic on the longer runs (gained about 3% efficiency over my other distance trainers) aside from the gnarly blisters the tapered toe gave just my left foot (and I never get blisters). Point being, find your fit, both size AND width, as they might not be quite true to size in all aspects.
This is good info! I know this is a dumb question, but how are they just walking around? I’m 6’3” 200lbs and I mainly walk but jog every once in a while. I know they’re overkill for my need, but I love the way they look 🤣 I have the Rebel V4s and love them, but looking for a little more cushion and I’d love your thoughts.
@@BuenoReviews If you're looking for a little more cushion, I would actually probably not recommend the SC Trainer V3s. Although they have more foam and stack height, the plate actually makes them a bit stiffer than the Rebel. They kind of have an ideal running "zone" where they hum along feeling plush and responsive. Plus the upper is tighter for more of a race fit compared to the Rebel, so I think for walking and walk-run there are more versatile options. Have you looked into the new NB Balos or More V5? I think they would both give you better cushion and comfort. They're in the Fresh Foam line as opposed to the Fuel Cell line (I wouldn't care about that, it should be about feel, not pseudo foam technology), but they're plateless and more forgiving at different speeds. More V5 is cheaper, but Balos is more expensive, compared to the SC Trainers. There is another UA-camr named Kofuzi to check out who does great shoe reviews, but he also details where a shoe fits into a brand's lineup which really helps to align with one's needs. Good luck!
@@jtsholtod.79 thanks you so much for all of this! I have really flexible arches so max cushion shoes often fatigue my feet when walking. I specially in my toes. That’s why the rebel is so nice to me! The responsive foam is great for my feet. I’m just looking for a good second pair with a little more of a plush feeling. Not by much. and was hoping the SC trainer v3 might be it, but it sounds like it won’t be. Cheers man!
@@BuenoReviews The Rebel is a unicorn, and I love it. It's also much lighter feeling than anything else they have for daily training. I hope NB doesn't screw it up in the next version, but they love to tinker with good things. I would still recommend you look at Balos and More because I find even the more "max" cushioned shoes are different from the "max" versions of a few years ago. They actually feel firmer and purpose-built now, rather than squidgy and unsupported. NB are generally highly regarded for arch support, so their other shoes may offer you a decent ride.
I am really hoping that this shoe is Rebel v4 + Plate because I absolutely love the Rebel v4. Having said that, I'm only picking these up when they're on decent discount.
I think everyone that is considering to buy this shoe should just buy the SC Elite V4. It's basically the same shoe as the SC Trainer V3, but lighter. They were saying on the reviews for the SC Elite V4, that it is more suitable for a trainer, than a racer.
Great review Ben. You mentioned budget friendly shoes on Strava, I would recommend taking a look at the Gel Pulse 15 by Asics which can be found for way less than the $110 RRP. It's a simple shoe but a huge upgrade over the previous model, now with standard Flytefoam, 35mm stack, 237g (US 9), AHAR+ outsole and no more visible gel. I prefer it over the Cumulus 26 due to the lighter weight and grippier & more durable outsole.
I think the running shoe market is going in a bad direction. Two things: 1) Prices are getting more ridiculous and I think we'll see the entire market surge upwards. Wave goodbye to £100 trainers and the £140. I think it will be £180-200 for standard shoes relatively soon. 2) I'm suck of manufactures making wild changes between different versions of the same shoe. You never know what you're getting.
In Denmark its priced at 225 punds, just 10 punds more than superblast 2, and 10 pund less than Endorphin Pro 4. For sure I will try this out when there is a 25% discount at some point.
As much as I like V2 for its versatility (easy, tempo & long runs), I don’t think an upgrade to V3 will be necessary in my case. I hate to say that after some 500k the energy return was no longer there for speed workout but the foam is also too soft for easy run. At this price point, the economy value doesn’t justify the buy considering the alternatives available like you just mentioned. I found it weird while Asics decreased the price of SB2 to 260CAD, NB has aggressively tried to match it to 250CAD. For me it’s no brainer to add $10 and get myself SB2. Just my two cents 😊
I’m in the UK and I bought a pair on release. I did however have a 20% discount code! Not sure how they have justified £230 but cheaper than the superblast 2 with the code, and actually available in stock!
The very first iteration of this shoe was the NB fuelcell TC. That is an amazing shoe (I still use it thanks to vinted). Even back then it was £180 which was mad for a 'training' shoe. I'd love a comparison between that shoe and the latest versions if anyone has an opinion. I could spend every run and race in the TC it was that good. Sad that I won't be able to use it once it disappears altogether
Iv been running in the og sc trainer for around 18 months now and it was £230 out the box, I don’t know why but the green ones were £115 so I grabbed 3 pairs !! Iv just come to the end of the life of the last pair and was thinking of getting sc v2, depending on the price point. I won’t pay £230 that’s for sure - thanks for the review Ben 😊
Just tested mine Today. I totally agree with Ben, it's comfy for slow pace and long runs, but when you want to go on 5k or 10k pace..it's a little bit hard, I felt like I had to push more. And yeah, not true to size for me, I have to change for one size up.
i wonder what thought went into that pricing. i’m in the US, and also live in a state that doesn’t tax for clothes and shoes, so i paid $180 for it. i like them, but would not pay over $200, let alone $300.
They had a promotion here in Korea on launch day, some running camp and free ticket for a marathon participation, still super expensive and not worth it at all
Great review! I was wondering, if you could choose only one super training shoes: Deviate Nitro 3 / New Balance Super Trainner V3 / Mizuno Neo Vista or Boston 12. What would be your choice?
Great review. Insane price difference between the US and the rest of the world. The consumers need to stand up and reject that pricing. Seems like you can get plenty of equal or better shoes for less
Its strange NB has moved away from the more poppy foam for their top end shoes. I horded the RC elite V2 because of that.. I own a pair of the V3 & V4 too, but they didn't stay in rotation.
The Boston does not feel good for easy running(at least for me). It comes alive when you pick up the pace. Recently I started doing 800 meter repeats and the Boston is awesome for them.
What kind of footstrike do you have and does it change to a more forefoot strike when you run faster. I naturally forefoot at any pace and even running slow I feel the springiness of the B12 energy rods in the forefoot giving me a very smooth propulsion foward. I'm also 215 lbs which probably gives me advantage when pushing down on those rods thereby getting the most spring out of them.
@@jefreywith1f924 I'm a midfoot striker all the way. I do feel the rods from B12 during speed sessions but comparing it to other "daily trainers" I tried on, it feels stiffer. But that does not mean the B12s are not soft though. They are. It's just that some other brands offer a more cushioned ride than the B12s. Don't get me wrong, I love them.
When manufacturers change the shoe shape when updating models, it’s disgusting. I found my perfect fit in the Altra torin 4.5. The sole shape of their Torin version 5 was totally different, then the Torin 6 was quite a different size. They have lots of models, but I can’t spend my life searching for whichever one has the particular last that suits my foot. Result, I will never buy another Altra shoe. I hope they realise that if there is no continuity in updated models, they will lose customers, for good.
Thanks for the content mate. A quick question, if price is not an issue. Would you go for Elite V4 for Trainer V3 for more comfortable ride on half marathon runs? Otherwise, would you recommend something else?
Love the shoe, here in Aus it’s $330 rrp, and I snagged it for $208 stacking a sale with some credit and a cashback etc etc, absolutely great value for me personally, but won’t buy another at its price, plenty of other nice options to get instead and save a little with
I love the content and the channel. One thing though- I’m an American and I gotta say that it’s a bit difficult to understand what you are saying. Could you possibly slow down when you talk or even add subtitles? If I’m the only one saying this, definitely ignore this comment,, I just find myself going back over the video a few times to catch what you saying.
The insane difference in pricing in different markets doesn't make sense. E.g. the Hoka Skyward X is 10% more expensive than Saucony Endorphin Pro 4 in Norway.
Is Japan not in the world??? (Asics and Mizuno are from Japan, you know.) The SC trainer is same as Superblast, 24,200円 (approx. £128) on the Japanese NB website. It’s reasonably priced.
"Anywhere else around the world"... in Japan these are only about $155 USD. Anything non-US New Balance tends to be cheaper there than just about anywhere else.
In Ireland you can buy from the US and UK with addresspal, basically a virtual address for shopping in shops in those regions where they wouldn't normally ship to IE. Wonder if you have something similar and could pick up from the US site instead?
New balance is pricey here in the states but still mostly competitive with the market ; too expensive in Great Britain and other countries?not sure why?
NB can go do one at that price 😂 I mean i guess it's fair, they pay 100x the normal cost for lifesaving prescription medicine, we pay more for running shoes 🤷🏽♂️
I returned these V3’s for the Superblast 2 and cannot be happier. V3’s felt big and clunky while Superblast 2 feel streamlined and fit my narrow foot like a glove. Superblast are firmer and more responsive though
US price was awesome. Sorry UK (train robbery). Training for a marathon with SC Elite and wanted to put miles on something comparable. SC Trainer works great. This line is Not as active as adidas pro 3 but does a quietly great job.

That price difference is crazy being $180usd but £230!
US prices are usually without tax
@@Humppakarajatthat’s almost a £100 tax then
They showed the true value of the shoe, and how little regard they have more me as a non-US customer >>> NOPE.
@@Humppakarajat Which would only be about $15.
Great review, what a price! Like Rebel v4. Congratulations on 200k subscribers.
The price is crazy. I might try this in 12 months when the discounts bring this back to decency.
I swear by the Boston 12.... On my 3rd pair.
Just grabbed a pair. These are nearly impossible to find in Amsterdam where I live but was able to get them at the Chicago marathon expo at US prices.
They had a promotion here in Korea on launch day, some running camp and free ticket for a marathon participation, still super expensive and not worth it at all
The price of NB shoe in my country is pretty low compare to other countries, SC trainer V3 is £130 here.
Just bought these with my vitality 50% off discount! £115 not too shabby!
$180 USD vs £230 GBP!
For reference, today (7th Sept) $180USD is £137 GBP on the xe currency convertor!
Insanity!
Its strange NB has moved away from the more poppy foam for their top end shoes. I horded the RC elite V2 because of that.. I own a pair of the V3 & V4 too, but they didn't stay in rotation.
Thank you for the review.
Still prefer the SUPERBLAST 2
Based on your review, I can say that the SC Trainer V3 is just a more "cushiony" version of the Boston 12s.
Just picked these up on sale for $143 to be my daily trainer to cycle between the Hoka Mach 5
Love the shoe, here in Aus it’s $330 rrp, and I snagged it for $208 stacking a sale with some credit and a cashback etc etc, absolutely great value for me personally, but won’t buy another at its price, plenty of other nice options to get instead and save a little with
V1 is bad for stability and honestly cornering is sketchy but the fun factor is pretty undeniable.
Is it a good shoe for cross country?
I don’t get NB sizing. Nor it’s hundreds of shoes doing similar things. The pricing is absurd. But thanks for the video.
Their sizing is all over the place
awesome review!! thnks
I so wish the Skyward X was available in a Wide. It's too narrow for me, personally, just barely.
Pricing is ridiculous but I find it has some nice comfort features over the elite and there really isn’t a 2e alternative on the market.
Turned off at the price. Looks nice, though.
Just click the subtitle button on UA-cam. You’ll be good to go.
Go to your settings and reduce the speed. It still sounds good, but you will follow better.
Like n subscribe! ❤ Im Swedish and I understand 90% of what he is saying ❤
The insane difference in pricing in different markets doesn't make sense. E.g. the Hoka Skyward X is 10% more expensive than Saucony Endorphin Pro 4 in Norway.
Is Japan not in the world??? (Asics and Mizuno are from Japan, you know.)
The SC trainer is same as Superblast, 24,200円 (approx. £128) on the Japanese NB website. It’s reasonably priced.
Japan is in Asia ❤
I love the Rebel V4 - hope this shoes go down with the price in some time..250 Euros is way toooo much.
As a Canadian, $250 CAD is outrageous.
I get all paces in my 1080s for less money and more comfort
"Anywhere else around the world"... in Japan these are only about $155 USD. Anything non-US New Balance tends to be cheaper there than just about anywhere else.
In Ireland you can buy from the US and UK with addresspal, basically a virtual address for shopping in shops in those regions where they wouldn't normally ship to IE. Wonder if you have something similar and could pick up from the US site instead?
great video Ben, best running guy on UA-cam
Thank you!
@@BenParkes I was wondering what running trainers would u recommend someone that underprontions
No one talking about that colour and geometric sole. Very sexy shoe, one of the best looking.
For PB 5k & 10k pace, better use this or boston, neo vista?
Woul you buy it for 178€? Here in Italy there's some discount
hi sir, nice socks btw, mind telling us where u got them from?
Will be buying one soon :)
New balance is pricey here in the states but still mostly competitive with the market ; too expensive in Great Britain and other countries?not sure why?
So are these similar to the Boston 12? The specs seem very close to it.
I run 3k's often and run in my daily trainers. I'm thinking of getting the streakfly, any other recommendations?
Priced more expensive than the superblast here in Australia, shooting themselves in the foot a bit.
Any rubbing heel issues like in the rebels? Thanks Dennis
I will never buy a running shoe over £150, pricing these days is getting ridiculous.
hoka skyward x is 225 in usa, so its like the same i guess with that tax
Only $30 in Bali....!!!!😂😂
I’m getting this shoe tomorrow🔥
I'm currently on Prep. Hbu?
Ty
have you tried the FuelCell SuperComp Elite v4?
Wow, whats up with the price difference? Maybe I should start a business buying these in the US and shipping them to the UK, lol.
NB can go do one at that price 😂 I mean i guess it's fair, they pay 100x the normal cost for lifesaving prescription medicine, we pay more for running shoes 🤷🏽♂️
This or the Superblast?
Superblast (not knowing anything else with regards to your needs and specific purposes)
I returned these V3’s for the Superblast 2 and cannot be happier. V3’s felt big and clunky while Superblast 2 feel streamlined and fit my narrow foot like a glove. Superblast are firmer and more responsive though
Balos!❤
US price was awesome. Sorry UK (train robbery). Training for a marathon with SC Elite and wanted to put miles on something comparable. SC Trainer works great. This line is Not as active as adidas pro 3 but does a quietly great job.
Got them for $143 usd today!
Better than Asics Superblast2?
