    Thank you so much for making this video. Two nights ago, a scenario came up where my life was threatened and after everything had resolved, I have been left feeling like I could and should have done something more. Nobody was hurt physically, and it could have ended worse if I would have tried to fight him without knowing any disarming techniques. I called the police and they ended up catching him very quickly. I feel like after watching my this video, that I made the right decision. Thank you for helping me understand that pride and ego aren't everything, and in dangerous situations, your brain is the most important thing you have.

    I think one fear of fighting is not knowing if you have the capacity to defend yourself after engaging. I was in a couple fights when younger and was surprised by how ineffective their punches were, so therefore I've always wondered how much strength it takes to fight.....which keeps me from engaging.

    In my area people only fight with knives/machetes and bats and poles, never with their hands its really frustrating being an MMA fighter in an area like that.

    Good video! There are three more things I think you can use to handle fear in a situation. They are nr 1: do the internal self talk like " I can do it ". " I dare to do it ". Nr 2: get angry ( you will not feel fear when you are angry). Nr 3: take action for exempel; attack, attack and attack your enemy if it is a fight. To handle your fear is everything. Mindset before techniques. Thank you. Take care!

    Hey I was wondering if you would do a video covering what to do if you see someone else being attack. For example your by yourself and you see someone getting punched up against a wall or on the floor. You can tell that the attacker is really hurting the victim and isn't stopping. In that moment how would you process the situation and deal with it in whatever way. One of my fears as well as fear of fighting is fear of not being able or to slow to help someone who is being attacked or beaten up. Great video as always.

    • @Shinebakaaho
      @Shinebakaaho 8 років тому +1

      Buy the fight to yourself, and as the victim runs its you and the agressor. Or, since you are the surprize element, u can attack the guy from behind and knock him down before he even see you, if you feel like gave few chances of winning

    • @juani2929
      @juani2929 8 років тому

      I would think the best course of action would be to grab something and smash his head... Though there's always the chance that maybe the guy deserved to be gettin his ass kicked, maybe he tried to rob the other guy? You never know.

    I fear what I can do to the next person. is funny how life is but when it is family you kinda forget about your self. well at least with me. I can avoid if the situation is with me, but when is with my loves ones you cross the line. so I guess is more like afraid that a demon can just take over you kinda like the hulk when he gets angry.thats my fear..

      This.
      I never resort to fighting unless it's really necessary. I'm always composed and I'd rather not hurt anyone. Last guy who was trying to intimidate my sister, was out of his mind, I hurt him really bad. I didn't want to.
      Now, I just see whoever has a belligerent temper as someone weak-minded, and don't answer to their taunts. I don't know what I will do if it's a case of "Fight or someone will get hurt" scenario with an irrational tough guy wannabe though.

    This is for practicing at home, from Taxi Driver 1975, the famous scene by Robert Di Nero.

    I'd like to know where the ego talk ends and where real need for self defense and therefore pre-emtivenes comes in.
    Also how a "normal" person, who doesn't want to fight daily, gets to boost his confidence, without getting into legal trouble?

  • @Ishbu101
    @Ishbu101 8 років тому +1

    I'm absolutely scared of fighting...I always imagine people I'm working with either lunging at me or hitting me and I don't know what to do. Also, recently my friend got super drunk and tried attacking me and I ran away...I'm too busy working all the time and I don't make enough money to afford martial arts even if I did have the time. I really don't know what to do anymore, I'm in constant fear all the time.

    Nick, when someone's talking, don't keep commenting in the background.
    "Yep."
    "Right."
    "Mhmm."
    They're totally unnecessary, make it more difficult to hear him, and it takes the focus off of him and onto you.

    • @Shinebakaaho
      @Shinebakaaho 8 років тому +2

      +Stoward Hearn if dont like dont watch, fuck off. Dont blame other if there is something wrong with your foccus, I heard all the guys words and Nick said some really interesring stuff

    • @Ranger1812
      @Ranger1812 8 років тому +1

      +Shinebakaaho I'm assuming that was meant for me.
      1. When did I say I didn't like the show? It's called constructive criticism. I give it because I like the show. Obviously.
      2. I didn't blame anyone, and there's nothing wrong with my focus. I suggested that he not talk over someone with noises that don't add anything to the product. Obviously.
      3. Don't make up things that I said. I never said that I couldn't hear him. Your entire comment is full of shit.
      4. Yes. But not "mhmm" or "yes" when the other guy's trying to talk. That isn't necessary.
      You see, constructive criticism is something that you give when you like something. It means you want it to improve. You getting all pissy over something that is an attempt at improving what you like makes you a dumb fucking cunt.

    • @epictetus9221
      @epictetus9221 8 років тому

      You actually are talking shit, you are 100% correct about that.

    • @Ranger1812
      @Ranger1812 8 років тому

      +Stoward Hearn Really? You think I deleted your comment? Just who the fuck do you think you are? I really don't care about your damn comment. It was an embarrassment to you, anyway.
      So, no, I never deleted it. I can't even do that.
      And it's funny how all you do is spout shit, but give no actual points. I detailed why. I said what I said to a guy above. You've sat there, projected how you view yourself onto me, and failed at making any argument.

    • @Apollon0077
      @Apollon0077 8 років тому

    Nice video. What about the stress before a possible fight? For example there was a guy who was picking on me everyday. The day I decided it was enough an wanted to throw a punch, I was really stressed out and was shaking even if the guy was the same height as me.

    • @残り風
      @残り風 8 років тому

      Well, it's all about just doing it, if it's constant. Recently I was at school when the year above me took our football and wouldn't give it back. Bare in mind there was around 15 of them and 5 of us, and we are smaller. I don't start anything, walk up behind thinking of getting the ball when it's passed to him. Instead he turns around and smacks me. Now, instead of telling myself that I WANT to throw a punch, I just did. My brain just clicked and I threw it. And sometimes, especially in school, it isn't as scary as you think. I won this fight against someone bigger than me, but none of his friends helped him. Basically what I'm trying to say is, if the other person is in the wrong, and he's been doing it a lot, just finish what he started, if it's a school problem make sure to do it in school so you can be semi sure he doesn't have a weapon on him, if it's outside of school bring some friends in case he pulls a weapon. Hope I helped

    • @overdose4903
      @overdose4903 8 років тому

      +Veggy Dishwasher because you decided that you had to force yourself into that situation of punching this man up. you have to enjoy the thing if you want to be good at it. sounds controversial, but you have to start to enjoy fighting. love the adrenaline, love the pain, love causing pain to those who cause you pain. as far as fighting. people might say I'm full of shit, but this just MHO on how to not get shaking with nerve before a fight.
      the type of person you are, of course, matters.
      ultimately: do martial arts, self-defence, fighting sports, etc.
      helps both ways: even if you hate fighting, even if you love fighting. you'll get good at it and you might still hate it, but it won't be a fearful hatred. you'll just get it done if you have no other choice and not come out with a black eye.
      if you love fighting, you'll get good at it and martial arts will give you the discipline to not overuse your skills and to not become what you fight against.

    Too much fear, as well no fear at all, is bad.
    To much fear= loose control of the situation.
    No fear at all= no awareness when your life is in danger.
    About the ego, in case of fighting for "your manhood", I think many people that went away with that, could end up in jail for sending someone to hospital, 5 minutes of self control could cost you 5 years in jail.
    Conclusion: Fight for self defense if necessary, that's it.

    You never went into the "False Evidence Appears Real" thing and frankly I don't see how that fits w/ the rest of the messaging anyway. So fear is false, but still good? Confused. Please enlighten me.

    • @Apollon0077
      @Apollon0077 8 років тому +1

      Great question. Fear is strictly based on our PERCEPTION of an event. Always. In most cases in our lives, the fear we have has nothing to do with what's actually going on. This helps us gain perspective, and remove judgement from it. When legitimate, fear will litteraly save your life.
