I had a FoodSaver vacuum sealer (the old white one) from about 20 years ago. I used the accessory port a few months ago and it had dry rotted and cracked, which caused the machine to no longer work. Therefore I had to purchase another vacuum sealer. I always used it for bag sealing items and then placing in the freezer. I can't believe that after all these years, I haven't been using it to its full potential, but I am definitely going to conduct a pantry makeover.
I feel bad….shhhh. But I’ve never used my FoodSaver with bags! I just seal jars. I know I should when I buy meats and freeze them. It’s on my list to do. Thanks for sharing!!!
I had the moths from bird seed in the house overnight. What a nightmare cleaning out the house! I keep things in canning jars and/or fridge or freezer.
Yep. Those moths are extremely difficult to get rid of! And no matter how clean you keep everything, anyone can get them. They travel in food. Thank goodness the bulk of my food is protected. Thanks for watching!!
If I can't afford the bigger vaccuum sealer, can I use the small black, rechargeable Foodsaver for short AND long term storage of the items you showed in your video? Can I do the same for oatmeal, rice, beans and pasta? Again, for both short and long term storage? Thank you
Yep! Just be consistent in checking to make sure it’s still sealed. I heard there is a more powerful one now on Amazon. I should test it and see if it’s stronger! I own several different types.
@@JustDoSomethingHomestead Is there a specific "all natural" cupcake liner that you recommend? Also, is that a FoodSaver handheld vacuum sealer you're speaking abt when you said that you had heard there is one even more powerful? Which one? I'd love to know bc I'm getting to buy one and I want to get the best I can on my budget. Thank you so much. Just found your channel and really learning & enjoying a lot.
Sugar becomes rock hard when exposed to moisture and most sugar canisters do not keep all moisture out. I vacuum seal all my sugar. My 4 year old sugar jar was still flowing. If it does become hard I’ll just chip it away. I still vacuum seal it so bugs and critters stay out. Thanks for watching!
Very good solid video for beginners and a reminder to long term storage people everywhere.
@@auntiepam5649 thank you so much. I appreciate your comment!

I thought that sugar becomes really hard when the air is removed. I know that is the case for mylar. What would you recommend for not a huge quantity?
