Xbox Series X 'July 2023' Dashboard Update Tour

- After the disastrous Xbox Series X Dashboard revision Xbox tried to push last year, 'Alpha Skip-ahead' Insider Members got access to a brand new 'Holiday 2023' Dashboard update last week. This update promises fixes including a home screen UI change directly taken from feedback in the previous update. In this video, I once again explore the home screen UI and detail my wishlist and issues with this newly updated dashboard.

I'd love to design a ui for xbox, no squares, just fluid menu systems, no menu in menu in menu, just a fast neat experience. Really modern.
I think they definitely need new leadership and people to bring new creative formats. It's like they're scared to move away from the tiles.
@@IndustrialGamer I agree, on all counts.
@@IndustrialGamer I just think personally it goes with there company (xbox) not (xcircle) or whatever the fuck, not to mention that also game titles would be harder to see if they were circles. Playstation has it as well just a different layout so I don't see it as much of an issue.
Yes, please can’t stand boxes
Why can’t we have two small circles at the bottom left of the screen one for all the menu stuff and one that takes you directly to your game library that’s it too small circles done then you have. Maybe the search bar at the top of the screen somewhere and then an amazing picture simple no advertising. Nothing all that stuff could be hidden in your game library or the settings somewhere
Great tour! This looks like a big improvement over the current dashboard.
It's certainly getting there. Comforting to know they're listening and able to make changes so quickly.
Nonsense
Are you slow in the brain? This dashboard is awful.
I would love to have the option for us to be able to choose the format of the game icons, like leaving them square or half rounded, in the best ps5 style
DUUUUUUDE, I can't believe it's not pages...
Make each one a page you can transition in using LB/RB and it will be PERFECT.
Since you are an insider please suggest this to them
I was really expecting that functionality because it would make navigation quicker. Yes, I'll definitely mention it to them as I think it makes sense.
I like the idea of the icon being dynamic. The PS5 does that, but with the games sound track playing.
Yep. I think something small like that would be fun to look at and make the dashboard feel more modern.
Where do you think they got the idea from, except there's doesn't work for every game, unlike PlayStation 5, I wouldn't mind having a Xbox series x, but more for the os than the gaming. PlayStation 5 plays third party games better this time around, smoother, better and sharper graphics, like always. And of course exclusives.
I turn off the music and other sounds on the ps5 dashboard it’s annoying
@@ot9523 What irritates you about the sounds? there just kinda background sounds.
As an Insider, this just hit my XBox like a week ago, rather jarring, think due to all the gigantic tiles below (especially on a gigantic 75" UHD -- kind of eyesore at times).
I'd be okay with this on ONE CONDITION: Allow us to still have our 15-ish customizable pins.
As I've said on Reddit and other places, I have a ginormous WD-Black external HDD, and at any given time have 400-600 games installed/setup and ready to go.
To keep track of them and get equal play, I'd alphabetize them into groups, with 40 per group (max that will show in pinned group on home), labeling like a PC, starting at "C:\" and currently up to "N:\".
I'd then pin all the groups to Home UI, in order from "C:\" and on, allowing me to scroll down all games in alphabetical order, like a gigantic arcade.
I can guarantee that without being able to do it like this, some to several of those games will end up lost and forgotten about, since trying to navigate and scroll all games via menu is rather clunky and cumbersome.
Also, since the XBox is mainly a game machine, makes sense to me to be able to make the larger percentage of Home UI display "our games".
I like where they're going, I also really like your thoughts on the pages. I like the Xbox Button Menu that opens up, but while still keeping that, having pages that you can flip through with the bumpers would be nice, especially if there was a "Social" page added in for friends, clubs, parties, etc.
Like I said, I enjoy the Xbox menu that opens, just surprised they haven't incorporated tab-pages yet.
Also, something small that I've never thought, it would be cool of they added in small background sound tracks while viewing the home dashboard. Or, for example, a video game theme provided by the developers can be played when downloaded from the MS, etc. Not a visual change, just a small dashboard addition.
Overall, I love where MS is going with this, especially as more developers utilize the dynamic themes.
bring back the avatar page and perhaps build a metaverse for xbox avatars to socialize, a world to monetize and games to play with xbox avatars, so much potential.
x2
I hope they add HDR to it so our Screen can finally stop flickering while lunching HDR content.
Perhaps they could utilize Auto HDR to add compatibility to the homescreen. But it's difficult because if the homescreen art and elements wouldn't be mastered for HDR to begin with.
It’s baffling that the community can make better UI. I love this though and it’s heading in the right direction. Reduce bottom row.
Yes, so many great conceptual renders by fans. I think the core issue is the leadership of the UI team comes from the TV service industry. There's just a lack of understanding of what gamers want, but I'm glad they're willing to listen and make changes quickly.
@@IndustrialGamer Interesting. Didn’t know that. I hope they really listen and take inspiration from them. It would be fantastic.
THE ADS NEED TO GO! In 2023 this is unacceptable on a console retailing for $500 or more.
I totally agree with your idea that add animation when you flight on the game icons its so futurustic and cool i love the idea
I like it and thank you bro for giving us an insider but I would rather them transparent the games and stuff you see or give us an option where we can put it transparent so our background can stay dynamic ...
The 4 big tiles on the bottom have to go as well - or at least be accessable when you go down where all the other Game Pass stuff is.
The store doesn't need a huge button like this, the small on the top is perfectly fine.
The rest of those tiles is either ads or achievments which adds nothing useful to the UI.
The small circle buttons on the top are the game changer here - add a button for the friends and achievements and we should have a clean UI.
I agree they should remove it so you can see your wallpaper more
It's just been released. It's been years since the last dashboard update. Love it🔥
I hate it. Pets of today gaming.
How do you update it on Xbox Series S?
@@Fresh.Travels It's been automatically updated.
@@JinnYoungKim I don’t have it yet tho
@@Fresh.Travels I wish I were you. I abhor this. Such a stupid game company
Im in the omega ring when will I get the dash?
1:32 Yeah they have but let's be real, it's a bad fucking idea. Having a Series X and a VCR Xbox One have the same UI is asinine, especially as there's VERY few games that take advantage of the Series X hardware to begin with because games get bottle necked or developed to the lowest common denominator of the Series S, so we end up with games that aren't the most visually impressive and STILL don't hit 60 FPS let alone 120, and the UI being the same just makes it feel less next gen than the games already make it feel outside of load times, anyone who gets burnt out playing a more than likely last gen game cause basically jack shit has come out in 9th gen that's worth a damn as far as Xbox is concerned, is greeted with the same shit diffent day UI of last gen and ends up thinking "Why the fuck did I buy this thing instead of a PS5??"
I wish all the other stuff would more blend in to the Frontpage like the library still looks the same somehow and I wish they would add transparency for all apps and Icons so you can choose how much of your screen you gonna see. Actually I don't understand what takes them so long overall...
Should be expecting this during the fall then, maybe September
When does the dashboard update come out
dude. how long does it take them to roll this out. still dont have it whilest others seem to have it
I don't expect anything big. Even PS4 loads stuff better and is more fluid considering it's age. Xbox UI needs core changes, if those are even possible at this moment, not surface remake and more makeup on it's Windows.
I think we won't see major progress until Xbox abandons the tiles. It's still got that old Windows 8 structure to it and I think it's holding it back from really advancing.
Well, it looks better than whatever we have now…
I like the credit of TBG Gavin Stevens little short scene of his Xbox one background, it is more detailed and organized also east to choose games with lots of details I hope they go that route instead
the new UI is nothing but more solicitation for xbox. Gamers have complained they don't want page after page of solicitation by xbox and they actually did the exact opposite. Not improved at all.
What they should do with the bottom is make the apps fade out into a full background until you move left stick. Like a Houdini.
This dashboard update will not be coming to Xbox one is only for the series console by the way.
We should also make it to where when we press the xbox button in a game it would open your home screen and your background would display what’s going on in the game your are playing , kinda like playstation but the game your playing would be first in the line and if your in a party it would be second behind the game your playing then maybe like you said at the top you could use your bumpers to go to your social tab / friends list but your game would still be able to be seen . (and achievements and other stuff could be accessible with bumpers and you would still be able to see your game
How do I get an invite to alpha and alpha-skip ahead, I’ve been apart of insider for 5 years 6 months and have constantly done surveys and quests, constant detailed feed back. Including enrolling in game and app beta’s and participating in them, meeting Xbox insiders criteria for joining. currently enrolled in the beta ring
I also remember it taking a very long time to get into Alpha Skip-ahead. I did a bunch of those weekly challenges on the Insider App and my profile is level 31 just for clarity. If I recall correctly, MS only opens it up once or twice a year, usually tweeting it out when they do so. I can't exactly remember as it's been years though, sorry.
Damn well that just sucks to hear
@@505PRE yeah I know, bullshit
Can't wait for all the new backgrounds 🎉
I’ve been an insider for 4 years. Is that enough?
When is this going to be available for all of us?
Guessing Q4
I'm thinking this summer.
@@xOwLStrikEx The title literally says holiday 2023. Not this summer.
@@mobamba4282 Xbox has said very soon... soon is not Q4
While there's no confirmed date, based on history I'm expecting around Q4. I'm guessing around October.
the browse to store thats at the bottom should be a customizable button that you can change it to different shortcuts
So when I did it I chose the top one and when ever I download the update it restarts which I know but after my Xbox turns on it make me redownload the update
Cool, hopefully it'll finally and properly update The Callisto Protocol game in the correct number manner, even though I haven't turned on my XSS in over three months. It this whole thing works out altogether along within that manner~
There’s still work to be done to the dashboard I think instead of the store icon in the top it should be a friends page that’s a full screen of your friends list there profile showing and avatars similar to the Xbox 360 nxe for those who remember and what games there playing along with implementing trending on Xbox there and game pass there instead of it being in the home menu because it ruins the customization of it being your own console (Xbox)
Now to get rid of the stupid ads
The click sound is annoying like the old one that we have.
such a beautiful background picture where can I find it?
That tiny menu of the five things at the top of the screen next to the search would be perfect and the rest of the screen could be completely empty boxes NO! please sick to death of boxes
can some tell me how you get more dynamic wallpapers instead of the ones xbox makes ( i love the jedi survivor one)
It's so stupid. I'm totally ambivalent.
I only play backwards compatibility games so I made a lots of list so I could add them into my dashboard.
This just fucking suddenly happened. I've not trusted them since they abolished kinect.
Only thing they do now is just aggravating me. Screw this
I don’t like the animation when switching between games. I think that’s asking too much from a Home Screen that doesn’t need to be TOO process-happy. I love this screen the way it is. I also don’t have the store button there. You can remove it.
Amazing but it took long time for Microsoft to even update the Xbox UI. It should have came out when buying Xbox series x/s
Sorry, but MS have totally stuffed it up.
No customisation, the bulk of items on the home screen are ads, ad tiles are bigger than game tiles and can't be changed.
If I want to know upcoming games, I'll go to the store.
This new UI is a massive step backwards imo
When will this new dashboard be released if ever?
I like the design of the squares much smaller then the current one only question is when in 2023 will it roll out to us & how do u download & install it what is it called
I’ve got this dash on Xbox Series X but it’s only been in Alpha Skip Ahead 3yrs but I actually have a one X that has been in Alpha Skip Ahead since 2017 so not quite as long as 2014 but I get all these updates also on both consoles but I have LG Oled panels I’m displaying on LgCX&C1 I’ve also got PS5 have had both since 2020
I’m in alpha skip ahead but don’t have this dash update?
Would love to be able to switch between the different generations dashes
I miss the old-school blades on 360 or even the NXE for that console. The final UI updates for each Xbox console always seem to be boring in comparison to early iterations.
@@IndustrialGamerloved how you could customize the blades on the 360. That console was ahead of it’s time.
When does it launch? My Series S got it already but not my Series X 🤨
How do I get this bruh my Xbox one that I haven't used in like 2 years got the menu but my Xbox series x hasn't yet
I really wish they just get rid of the GamePass stuff. There’s a whole GamePass tab for those interested. I don’t understand integrating it more into the OS like this. I hate it.
anyone else already have the new dashboard?
@@Cha0s1777 i don’t even have dashboard it’s just already like tgis
it looks fantastic. Is it possible to make such a menu design right now? And another question is only on the xbox sx? Is it possible to put this design on ss too?
it's coming to both, yes.
How do u get that when will we be able to get it
Is this a dashboard concept or a future update? Sorry My English 😅
Looks like a big improvement, the current one looks cramped and outdated.
I don’t have this? When is it coming
Nice dashboard 😍✨
It's certainly getting there!
Does that background come with the update?
No, this is the Stellar Shift background which you get for free when you buy the Stellar Shift controller. Just shows up in the menu after you connect it.
Will they be including series s with the update.
How do you get it
I would like to them the games and apps section should be more down , and ads and my games down when you scroll or change it somewhere so we can see more background
Is it 4K? Is it 60fps? Thank you!
I wish we could make it how ever we want just like my phone ?
I remember people requesting a grid-like customization feature for many years now. I think MS wants to control some things you see still, like ads :(
How did you get that custom dynamic background?
Came with the Stellar Shift Xbox controller.
I’ve got this dashboard I’ve had it almost a month
Hey how did you get that theme
It's the "Stellar Shift" theme you get when you purchase the matching Stellar Shift controller. Just shows up when you connect it.
Still looks it better than my PS5.
In Xbox insider update it only says I have the omega option
Two months you will get the delta and three months or more you will get the beta and 9 months to three years you will get the alpha
No mouse support yet? 😢
Iam a ps guy but this dashboard looking sweet
not so good...nothing special seems an alpha version of a work in progress design... horrible.
The fact that the ads are big is why I still don’t like it
I want to customize
When come out
I think more changes when come out
How do you do that?
Can we get this update
How do I get it?
How to get it
Is this out yet beacause i seen it on my xbox one but its not on my xbox serise s
It's only for insiders
So much better
"Let's copy PS5 UI!" - Phil
Let’s copy achievements game pass our controller switch to amd and also drop on PC like Xbox does - PS
@@MDOTMiLLA you seem to think that Phil as anything to do with these things 😂
Looks good
Those ads tiles have got to go
When it’s being released?
No release date yet, I'm expecting around October based on history.
This is kinda weird I don’t think I’ll get used to it
Nice
The new dashboard looks horrible it looks more like a fire stick home screen why are the ads bigger than the games? Why can't they just remove the ads and put them somewhere else but don't make them bigger than the game so that don't make sense
I too, am not a fan of the Ads and think they need to ultimately move away from the tiles. Unfortunately, MS the only console manufacturer that displays Ads front and center on the main dash. The latest 360 dashboard was the worst offender I thought. Don't expect that will ever change sadly.
@@IndustrialGamer I think this will be Microsoft last console they can't do anything right.
Bro please how do i get it
First to alpha and now to beta and after two weeks this will release to all
It's STILL awful, even after the "feedback". No more pins or groups and it's still just an advertisement for GamePass.
is this real?
It looks like the pc gaming dashboard. Personally I don't like all that stuff the have on 3rd row down
I never scroll down and agree it's a bit like clutter. At least you can ignore it and it looks invisible on the basic view.
That’s pretty dumb that we have to wait till holiday 2023 just for a new dashboard why not this summer? come on Microsoft.
PINS!!!??? SHOW US PINS MAN!!!
Ong
I recall Pins! Unfortunately, they're still kinda dead in this update and you can only add individual games to your homescreen as I showed later.
All im still seeing is GAMEPASS advertisements.
This is disgusting it feels like im using a chinese mobile filled with bloatwares
Everything is bigger in texas
Here Go Microsoft once again with another Dashboard update..Smh its Over
I'm sure we'll get another 2 homescreen revisions before this generation is over XD
