I'm a pretty open minded guy, but the more people I hear describing their experiences in Vietnam the less tempted I feel to visit that country. Be careful with street food. I had a horrendous experience with street food in Mexico. The food poisoning forced me to cut my vacation short and rush straight to the hospital as soon as I got back home in the US. I was sick as a dog for almost a week.

I've always found that street food eaten by a lot of locals is safer than tourist food places. But there's always a risk I guess. Depends what you want our of Vietnam whether I'd recommend it. The nature is suffering though that's all I'd say.

I've been to Vietnam numerous times and lived there as well. Its a boring shithole with greedy locals. Dating sucks. Expensive food and apartments. Constant visa headaches. Etc.

The old-fashioned, stubborn, lazy, gossipy viets here don't wash their hands when they enter and exit toilets, no soaps or detergents of any kind in their toilets both at home and outdoors like even in hospitals. And also when they pee or poo outdoors somewhere they don't bother washing or cleaning their hands and then next thing they do is start cooking and serving food to you with the same pair of hands. YAAAAAAKKKS!!!!!
SOMEONE PLEASE HELP THEM LEARN HYGIENE AND CLEANLINESS!!

Spot ON, Elyce! Very helpful. Wish I watched this before I went. As for the taxi advice, if you ever find yourself in a taxi where the rate is going much faster than it should...have the guy stop immediately and get out! Thanks for sharing!

It's an interesting point of view. Travelling to the Eastern Asian countries, you will be able to see a lot of differences in comparison with the European countries or probably your country. I can imagine, difficult situations to handle there; specially when someone gets out from Europe, for instance either you go to LatinoAmerica, Africa, Asia and so on... The majority of the things that we're use to see in our western countries, it definitely changes... For example, I've visited some southamerican countries a long time ago, and believe as other point of view, people sometimes literally behave different from us.
Hence, visiting all those countries such as; Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Myanmar and so on... Even just the expressions of those peoples talk by theirselves... :|
Moreover, how is prepared the coffee there? Probably Spain is better! :p

Yeh I moved to Brazil when I graduated from my masters and definitely found a lot of cultural differences there as well. I also studied in Argentina but I actually didn’t feel much culture shock there. But working and studying give you a different experience I guess.
Haha the coffee in Vietnam is not good. It’s very heavily mixed with chicory and they often drink it with condensed milk. I’m ashamed to say it but it’s one of the few places I’m glad Starbucks has opened...but they are very proud of their coffee so never tell them directly.

In their mega chain retail stores and even shopping malls the gates and glass doors are oily, greasy and sticky. That I had to place a hand towel or tissue which I dispose of after isolating my hands from the doors, glass and handle bars
