CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Agent Voyles (Steven Hill) informs Mitch (Tom Cruise) that the law firm he works for represents the mafia and no lawyer has ever left the firm alive.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
In this drama, based on the best-selling novel by John Grisham, Mitch McDeer (Tom Cruise) is a young man from a poor Southern family who has struggled through Harvard Law School to graduate fifth in his class. Mitch is entertaining offers from major firms in New York and Chicago, but when Memphis-based Bendini, Lambert, & Locke offer him a 20 percent higher salary than the best offer he's received, in addition to an enticing variety of perks and fringe benefits, he decides to sign on and remain in the South. Mitch's wife, Abby (Jeanne Tripplehorn), warns him that the deal sounds almost too good to be true, but it's not until after several weeks of working with Avery Tolar (Gene Hackman) that Mitch discovers that the vast majority of BL&L's business is tied to organized crime, with crime boss Joey Morolto (Paul Sorvino) using the firm to launder Mafia money. FBI agents Wayne Tarrance (Ed Harris) and F. Denton Voyles (Steven Hill) try to blackmail Mitch into helping them make a case against the firm, while BL&L's "security director" William Devasher (Wilford Brimley) is blackmailing him to do as he's told after Mitch foolishly allows himself to be seduced by a prostitute hired by the firm. The Firm was adapted for the screen by acclaimed playwright David Rabe and features performances by Hal Holbrook, Holly Hunter, and Gary Busey.

In the 90s they always go to this park for THE TRUTH😆
True.. Very True
Seems that way.
Is Donald Sutherland there?
“Look at all these people”
“Nice enough day for-“
“I shall now tell you some shocking secrets that will endanger our lives and those we love”
Which other movies feature this park and what were the circumstances (in which the park was featured?)
They tell you the truth.
You work for Julio Iglesias.
dosduros: 🤣🤣🤣🤣
One the best audio checks for a home theatre in that scene with Gary Busey! I thought I was gonna need new speakers after that gunfire, lol
That's a very powerful statement, they hire someone; THEY GET USED TO THE GOOD LIFE AND THEN TELL EM THE THRUTH.
One must always carefully investigate the entire family before entering a relationship of any kind, especially in regards to legal. An example of this would be my own life's biographical details which proves most detectives in my town are not worth their weight in salt. If they had done a proper background and conflict check, the entire floor would have been disqualified and in my favor. Big problems occur with what is known as blind ambition. Smart ambitions are one thing but, this man was simply blind and stupid and beyond greedy.
@Ra HoWa Jack and Tom would have been a great duo in this movie!
Same thing happens in Washington
I watched this movie a while ago and it was great. Tom Cruise when he is younger has a more beautiful face than Timothée Chalamet.
I don't find timothe attractive at all, I'm missing that certain something
Steven Hill was such a great actor. Master of realism.
Tom Cruise was perfect for this role!
THE FIRM is one of my top 10 favorite Tom Cruise films and this scene is just one reason; Gene Hackman, Ed Harris, and the stellar supporting cast are some of the others.
Mustafa Jackson It's a good movie
When I first saw the movie I thought it was like a spy thriller (since the trailer made it look like a thriller) but then I noticed towards the end about the mob and I’m like what did m night shamylan has something to do with this
He only did 10 good films
@@chessmentor63 He who?
💯
That little smirk he gives when he says "your life as you know it is over". Is brilliant. Just that little touch. Great acting.
It isn't a smirk.
It’s a twitch
You believe it...
It's a grimace not a smirk. But it is good.
@@davidfoy6419 It's a twitch of some sort, as it makes no sense in the scene the way it is.
The original leader of the Impossible Mission Force(Dan Briggs) with the current leader of IMF(Ethan Hunt).
Mokkari77 .
Mokkari77 your mission, if you choose to accept...
I always see Steven Hill for his role on Law and Order more than the original Mission Impossible.
Laura
Lol that's right! The first season. And the whole time I was just thinking that the DA guy crossed over from his law and order role
I was waiting for that signature 'Law & Order' sound.
Brilliant acting in this scene. Perfectly executed portrayal of when a bombshell is dropped on you and you just want to puke..
I love Tom Cruise the guy is 30 years old here the age I am now amazing this guy is a real action hero 😎🔥
The screenplay was meant for none other than Tom Cruise.
David Thomson writes that Pollack took "enterprising material," then gave it a "middle-brow approach." He certainly does that with "The Firm," adapting it from John Grisham's novel.
On the other hand, Pollack would have had a hard time if he had tried to recount Voyles's conversation with Mitch, word for word. Voyles actually tells Mitch that the law firm where he works "is not owned by the partners." The firm serves as a "front" for a money-laundering operation owned by the Mob. The firm hides its criminal activity behind the sanctuary of the "attorney-client relationship."
"The Firm" remains an interesting book, both accessible and thoughtful.
Three 🐐s in this scene
I forgot Steven Hill was in this.
I saw him for so many years as the D.A. on LAW & ORDER. But I wasn’t watching that yet when the movie was released.
I recommend the book although the movie was decent.
Exactly! There are some books that send a Writer's Name into Superstar Status. The Firm was actually John Grisham's Second Book (The First being A Time To Kill) but this was the Book everyone wanted to read. Kind of like with Flowers in The Attic by VC Andrews (RIP) or even Waiting To Exhale By Terry McMillan. When "Carol" starring Cate Blanchett was released a lot of folks went and bought the Book originally known as The Price Of Salt.
I finished reading the book just now and thought of looking for a movie. I visioned Mitch to look like Dan Tai. Hahaaha. The book is okay. I read it in one day. I couldn't put it down.
@@bluephoenix1652 Dan Tai? Please. He has to look 90s lawyerly. Intellectual...too much time spent inside studying the law. Cruise was good. I was thinking Jeremy Piven in a more serious role. ;)
Decent?Seriously?The movie was great.
Old Mission: Impossible meets current Mission: Impossible
See how evil cash is?
Two Mission Impossible guys (Dan & Ethan), meeting on a park bench. Who has the exploding tape, I wonder.
1:18 - Both my jaw and stomach dropped when I read this part in novel form! Wowww...!
RIP Steven Hill.
Z Zuiderzee ll
A bald guy NEVER walks around a winter Wonderland full of snow and ice without a beanie or a hat!
I can confirm that LOL
Bruh, he's the Man in Black!
It's mission impossible star that's how
Unless his name is Ed (Chad) Harris 😂
0:24 This really needs the Law & Order DUN DUN sound.
Lol!! 😂
@@DarkroomMedia007 YEP!! LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL
Steven hill is a part of mission impossible TV series and here he did this scene with tom cruise who is known for mission impossible.. Such a treat to watch them together
People are stupid they don't know it. Makes me feel sad
Such a good film! Now I need to watch it again.
Do yourself a favor. Read the book. It's way better.
1:19 - This revelation never grows old! Daaaayum!
Why even have this military veteran super-covertly tell Tom Cruise where to go, if he was gonna have a long and super obvious talk with the guy on the bench (and then with Ed Harris after he left)
The Chicago mob was known as the Outfit.
I'm looking for Jack McCoy
Damn, Dan Briggs and Ethan Hunt together on screen!
this is Tom's best movie kinda like Will Smith's best movie is "Enemy of the states" .... just my opinion 🤷🏾♂️
Both share Gene Hackman too
Great character actors.
Adam Schiff from Law and Order. LOL
I wonder if this was in reference to JFK with Mr. X.
This feels just like Kevin Costner meeting with Mr. X
And how do they hide their excess money: overbilling
get me a god damn map of Louisiana!
Can we get those sandwiches to go please
Mitch it was a prison guard, just come on in
“That’s not my best feature”.
Steven Hill was a master.
Tom finds out he’s a Scientologist.
He & Miscavige are unnatural close
It never snows like that in DC anymore
Tom Cruise has a scene with Steven Hill the original mission impossible leader before jim Phelps, and three years later the first film comes out. Coincidence? I think not.
I too want to know more about their interactions
It's funny to think that Tom Cruise looks younger here than in Top Gun. My sister asks, "When this movie came out? How old is he? Why he looks so young?"
And I like his hairstyle in this movie
He looks even younger in A Few Good Men. Watched both of these tonight.
he simply didn't age within those 7 years
Tom Cruise didn’t start ageing for real until Jerry Maguire in 1996. That’s when you first see that classic Tom Cruise hysterical wide smile
Good screenplay is a key for good movie even if is cost 20mln $.
like dirty dancing it only cost 1 million
Iconic role he carried on to Law and Order.
I love how Ed Harris and Tom Cruise both appear to be freezing while Steven Hill seems to be saying "Ag, I'm from New York, this is nothing." 🥶😄😄
If the government knew this, it is very easy for them to simply prevent new rookies from being hired, by scaring them away BEFORE they join the firm. Eventually, the firm can't get new talent and can't operate.
False reasoning, perhaps. No new recruits, no mole. No new recruit, no mole... no novel.
There's always someone that will take the money to work for a firm like that.
A strategy which would take a forever amount of years to work.
若手に汚れ仕事まわして酷使して責任負わせてポイ捨てって、珍しくないわよね。

日本の場合、この映画のように破格の待遇で釣るとかじゃなくて終始安く買い叩く伝統ありそうだけど。
god bless this movie
your life like actor is over
Funny thing, ALL our lives were over before we knew it!!!
My stomach would've dropped if that was me. I would've puked
Yeah but you're not "the" man among men... Just another day for Maverick.
no associate of the firm has EVER failed the bar exam
It's been years since I've seen this but I remember thinking that the book was better. If I remember right, in the book he masterminded everybody's downfall. In the movie, the mafia saved him for pointing out to them they were getting overbilled, or something like that.
Adam Schiff's retirement to DC was more exciting then Jack McCoy let us all believe.
I love this movie.
The firm I worked with was nothing like this.
Hope it was not!
Sounds like ORGANIZED STALKING
They knew he was going yo Washington and could of had people already there waiting for Mitch to watch him. Took some chance meeting the F.B.I.
This character was named Denton Voiles because Shmenton Kloiles was already taken.
We don't get snow like that anymore in DC. It's been a mild even hot winter. I miss winter
Darn global warming 😒.
I live in Jackson Mississippi and we had an unprecedented ice storm this February with temperatures in the single digits. So much for global warming.
❄️Be careful what you wish for. The Old Farmer’s Almanac (80% accurate on weather) predicts 2021/2022 winter to last long and very cold.
This movie is an analogy for the Brit exit.
Nah, Tom Cruise's character wasn't a complete idiot, and he survived in the end.
I guess I’m watching the Firm today.
Love the movie but the book is way better. The show had potential but couldn’t deliver
"Your life, as you know it, is over. 😬"
Huge overcoats!
it's very 90s 😂
A very discreet meeting.
Half the cast of the original Law and Order in this movie.
Sounds like the Freemasons once you reach the 33rd degrer
this is the same park donald sutherland speaks in JFK
Love the landscape. ❤
I love Steven hill law and order
How did Voyles know that Mitch had talked to Abanks, the dive captain, about the accident that killed the other two lawyers?
They were following him. The FBI was already onto Bendini Lambert and Locke and when the lawyer was killed in the Caymans in a "diving accident," they were investigating that themselves anyway.
British Secret Service did this to me
Ethan Hunt meets Dan Briggs
Excellent movie
I can’t be the only one that thinks this scene is ridiculous lol what crime has Tom Cruise’s character that would make him take these threats of jail seriously? He is a lawyer 😂 he should know better
Col. Dan briggs recruits a young ethan hunt 😎 Mission : Impossible the recruit.
Amos enjoy The Firm.
Simply can't wait for the novel sequel to The Firm, "The Exchange" out in October later this year
“Tom Cruise, we need to have a plot exposition talk on this bench.”
Chicago is the outfit
1:15 You cannot unsee it, and you’re welcome.
😐😬😐
You're supposed to see it. He's acting.
“I’m saying your life as you know it is over.” Damn
This reminds me of Jeffrey Epstein and NXVIM.
Twin
His name is Denton
“You believe it…”
I love this movie, book, and TV show.
Just wondering...does anybody know what time this clip is in the movie
Christine Condon no, but it's 6 yrs later, and i hope you found out. I watched this movie yesterday. It's good.
Darnel W I need the link to download it and other john Grisham movies. Can you help
People really don't know Steven hill he was the real deal of mission impossible
Mitch😍😍
"You believe it..." His way of saying, "Save the BS. You're no innocent babe in the woods anymore". He wants one thing and one thing only: cooperation from Mitch.
He never had the makings of a varsity athlete
1:15 😬
The Old Man on the Park Bench trope.

Not the D.O.J. today
This movie was kinda boring
They were both caught flipping on their clients and you know it. You also know exactly who I am. Time is up and so is the con, period. I told you to get the surveillance out of my home because, unlike them, I fall under an umbrella and one might say that as far as succession goes, I now own it. They are done and that, you can take to the bank.
