I hope you checked and changed the lightbulbs, of the instrument cluster since it*s a good time to change them since who knows if they were ever changed, the instrument cluster & the clock, also if you have a friend who has a junkyard or Volvo parts, it would also be good, to change that plastic plate where the headlight knob is, and the dimmer switch, after a while it starts to
My odometer stopped working the other day on my 240GL when I pressed the reset button. Since then it has stayed on the same number and the bottom row is still stuck on 0000. Is there a high chance one of the cogs at the back needs replacing? @JP Volvo
You probably just need to replace the odometer gear which he shows in the video. www.ipdusa.com/products/20910/Odometer-Gear-240-for-Volvo-Odometer-Gears-25200-139645
How hard is it to convert from the quartz clock cluster to the tachometer cluster with the voltmeter? I've got a 1990 240 I'm currently LS swapping and going to reuse the factory style gauges. My cluster isn't working right now part of why I'm here, and figure I'd like to convert to tach cluster.. Anyhow TLDR is the pinouts different on the quartz clock cluster vs tach cluster and how hard is the conversion?
There is an “L” shaped metal tube (‘93) It goes under the steel edge plate on one side. The other side sits against the black lever on the back of the odometer. Rear Dif . speed sensor cable?
When you push the button on the very lower left of the cluster there is a long thing in that tube that manually pushed that little forked lever up. It resets your service engine light to come on next time it rolls whatever Volvo has the oil change mileage recommended. It’s only on the cars With the big clock instead of a boost gauge.
Had mk2 and 4 VWs, and then w123 Mercedes. The German iron is all gone, and I just lucked into a '90 240DL wagon with 5-speed m47, and minimal rust. I would like the gauge cluster with the tach, instead of the clock on the left; is that difficult modification? I'm new to Volvos. Thanks.
Hey man! Im from the Netherlands and last year i bought and 240 GL from 1988, flashing red colour😎 but i have the same problem here with the odometer. I did try to replace the small gear with and gear from another odometer, but when i removed the dash, and later put it all back in, nothing worked anymore xD. So i had to take it to a garage and let it check out. Plus, my battery died on the same moment, maybe because my wires werent connected correctly? Anyway, do you have a good website adress to order parts from?? Or any tips you want to share? :D If you wanna get in touch, let me know :-)
You skipped over the most important part: how did you clean your cluster and bezels??????
Only Volvo drivers change milleages forward!
vulk86 that’s because they can display it proudly😂

What did the trick to clean the interior of the housing? Or is that a new housing?
Hey mate, i heard pre 89 has mechanical speedometer, yours is electronic, i see...i guess not interchangeable?
Why not put mileage emblem on the grill?

Speed sensor is electrical, never a cable. Your thinking Speedometer cable, but it would attach to the speedometer right? Lol .

It's a breeze! There's a loose red/yellow wire on the clock side that plugs right into the tach. The only trouble is finding a tachometer.
