    • @BulbFacts
      @BulbFacts  2 роки тому

      @@eddyann2 when you go with a cheaper brand, you risk the beam quality. I would try a set of brand name bulbs from OSRAM or Philips, and see if that helps. The ballast can be expensive to replace, so that should be secondary.
      You could also try swapping the two bulbs if you suspect only one ballast to be bad. I don't believe the ballast will make the bulb dim though, it will work or it won't. Hope that helps.

    Another great video thanks! I have a quick store.
    I was very displeased with my factory bulbs in my car. In doing my research I found your video review and checked out your recommendations on your website. Not following your recommendation I purchased and install the Xenon HID Kits. After about a week I started having problem with the passager bulb. Got a replacement from the company and then started having problems with the drivers' side. In less than two week I reinstall the factory bulbs and surrendered to your reviews. I order, received, and installed the Morimoto 5500k HID kit from BRI and I gotta tell ya...these is 3-4 times brighter than factory and twice as bright as the Xenon HIDs. Amazing!! Even more interesting were the Hi Beams. They were basically nonexistent from the Xenon kit and incredible from the Morimotos. I live in the trees in Woodstock, Il, and these lights help out a ton see twice as far down the road while navigating these dark roads.
    I have shared your website with a few of my friends interested in changing out their lights.
    Thanks again for your reviews. I will use your site as a tool to help others with their bulb selections.

    I have a question- have you guys ever done testing on the spectrum of light cast, and charted it? I feel like looking at LUX is like measuring the quality of a sound with DB only as opposed to looking at the spectrum of sound charted out? Maybe develop a new metric that measures different parts of the spectrum, and adds them together with weight where they can be best seen in visual spectrum

    • @BulbFacts
      @BulbFacts  2 роки тому

      Hi accordv6er, great suggestion! We have yes, but the results will dramatically vary depending on the headlight. We had added 'total output' by testing the lumens as well. Color also effects the output. By testing the peak lux in the hotspot in both low and high beam projectors (from the 3 major mfrs/types), we are able to get a very good idea of how they perform in the real world in various headlight systems.

    I'm really interested in the GT Ultra Xenon, I want a perfect 5000k bulbs with improved brightness over OEM. After testing do these bulbs still at 5000k? Or did they shift into another color temperature?

    • @SterNebula
      @SterNebula 3 роки тому +2

      Update: Alright I bought them and I installed them today, so far they are definitely brighter than OEM (Philips D1S C1), however they appear with different color temperature than tested here, it is 4300K warm white as advertised in the box so no deference from OEM and I'm slightly disappointed. I have heard somewhere that some bulbs take around 18 hours of run time then they shift into a consistent color temperature like the Philips Xtreme white vision gen2. I hope it's true so my bulbs shift into a cooler color temperature. If they still at 4300K I'll swap them to Osram Cool Blue Boost in the next few years or so.
      Final update: Nope, more than 30 hours of run time and they are still 4300k which is good if you are looking for bright bulbs. But bad for me since I was looking for ~5000k bulbs. Maybe for the next time I'll swap to Osrams cool blue boost (CBB) since most people suggest them for bright ~5000k bulbs.

    • @BulbFacts
      @BulbFacts  3 роки тому

      @@SterNebula thanks for sharing! That's unfortunate, as our product tested at 5000k (from their 4300k model). So it sounds like perhaps they corrected that. I'll pick up another set for testing and run them through again to see if the color has changed, and get our website updated right away. Sorry about that! BTW We do burn them in for about 12hrs prior to testing as well, with a 24hr cool down in between. The OSRAM CBB is really a great option, and will last you a long time while maintaining it's brightness longer.

    What do you think would be the best legal way to upgrade low beams in Europe? I live in Finland, late fall to early spring are very dark, so i'd love to upgrade my lights.
    The problem is that retrofit LED bulbs are straight up illegal, and HID conversions require the vehicle to meet certain criteria (mine doesn't). I considered the brightest halogens, but they don't last very long.
    Also the law mandates that everyone has to have low beams or DRLs on at all times, depending whether the vehicle has DRLs. Mine doesn't have DRLs, so it would kill the halogens life even faster.

      Hi Alan, the halogens the aftermarket headlights come with are typically generic like you said. I would look at the Sylvania Silverstar Ultra's if you want the best halogen. But since you have projectors, I would highly recommend an HID conversion. Morimoto, GTR Lighting, DDM Tuning are great options. HID will provide much more light output as well as a further available distance. They are worth the trouble of installing!

For best output, you'll want to look for something closer to 4500k-5000k (at 35w). I wouldn't recommend going over 6000k at 35w (7000k at 55w).

If I want that look what do you think is a better option 5000 or 6000 k and also do you think I should go HID over LED? Please help me lol!

    • @BulbFacts
      @BulbFacts  4 роки тому

      If you have reflectors, stick with LED. HID is best for projectors. 5000k is better for all around weather including snow. If you live in mostly clear conditions, go with 6000k. OEM Xenon is going to be around 4300k, however newer models are using around 5500k in LED, with Mercedes even higher for some reason (for a unique look we believe).

    Unless I'm missing something, it looks like the GT Ultra Xenon has the most lux on both high and low beam. It seems like these would be the ones to get, unless you want higher than 5000k color temp. One owner states that they dimmed after two days use. Does that seem likely?

    • @BulbFacts

      Hey Marc, the GT Ultra's are really a great kit, but as with all other aftermarket bulbs will not last as long as OSRAM and Philips. Two days seems odd though. We run all xenon bulbs for about 15 hours, and didn't have any issues with the GT Ultra's. Once we complete Halogen bulb lifespan testing we'll start Xenon bulbs though.

    Right after that we lined up my cousins 2017 S class W222 with the LED and it its like 5X brighter that both the Laser NB and GT Ultra together.

      Hi Clinton, it sounds like it could be a few things; 1. DOUBLE CHECK the validity of the bulbs you purchased. Most of what is sold online is fake and has poor output. If the price is too good to be true it is. BRI Source, TheRetrofitSource, and PowerBulbs are great options for GENUINE bulbs. 2. Have somebody check for burn marks, abnormal wear, etc. on your projectors and headlights. If you did in fact have good quality genuine OSRAM bulbs, the should have VERY good output, but if the headlight is oxidized for example, output is diminished greatly. I hope that helps!

      The ZRSJ is no longer available. The DMEX is a different brand, but it's the next best option from Amazon, so we updated the description at least for people. Sorry for the confusion there.

      Hi randomsurfer3963, you are in fact correct. I removed the product from our website some time ago, and updated the description links as well. They were inconstant as we had many reports from people after we recommended them. I do apologize there, but be sure to take a look at our latest recommendations as you should be able to find a product in your budget there. bulbfacts.com/hid-oe/recommended/

      @@BulbFacts Thanks for answering, I just had a look at the link you provided. Since I have already spent a lot of money on two sets of D1S bulbs without great results, I will either shell out for the OSrams but will buy at a main shop just to be sure of authenticity and not online or will give some LED kits a try, some of them have had good reviews but the LED scene is a bit of a minefield when it comes to D1s applications. Thanks again. Fun fact, the site (one of the biggest bulb specialists) where I bought the Ultra Gts, refused to publish my three star review which was way too generous anyway and said dismissively they will get brighter as I use them, very funny! I have used them more than 10 hours and the lux readings are poor and staying the same. So the bulbs have 4.8 stars on their shop from people that presumably have no clue or had very old OEM bulbs so thought these were an improvement..

      @@randomsurfer3963 No problem, and sorry again about that. It's very unfortunate for me to see that you spent money but received a different product than we reviewed. I had a number of people with the same complaint as well. Power Bulbs was sold a few years ago, and it sounds like their business has changed a bit. OSRAM (or Philips) is really the best way to go, but I will be testing Xenon bulb lifespan soon to find out for sure how they all stack up in terms of reliability.

    What's the difference between ds1 ds2 ds3

    • @BulbFacts
      @BulbFacts  5 років тому +2

      Hey Carols, each vehicle uses a specific size as per designed by the system. So as long as you choose the correct size for your vehicle it will fit. D1S and D2S run a higher voltage, whereas D3S and D4S are considered eco which run at a lower voltage and contain no mercury, but consequently don't shine as bright as D1/2. Hope that helps!

      They claim 'up to', and it's possible with the right environment, headlight housing, and bulb size that it's possible, but in our test environment we only seen about 5500k which I personally prefer, but some people are expecting a higher color temperature and may be disappointed.

      Hi Jose, you are right to be cautious, as there are a LOT of fakes being sold. Generally if the price is too good to be true it usually is. Here are known vendors selling only genuine Xenons: BRISource.com, PowerBulbs.com, TheRetrofitSource.com. We have purchased products from all three sources and they always checked out genuine each time. BRI and TRS are US based, and PB is based in the UK but ship to the US.

    How do the Osram CBB compare to the Philips Xenon White Vision Gen 2..
    www.powerbulbs.com/us/product/philips-xenon-whitevision-gen2-d3s-single
    Really curious to see the comparison as Philips claim these match LED .

    • @BulbFacts
      @BulbFacts  3 роки тому +1

      Hi vpyngolil, the OSRAM CBB will be brighter as well as a whiter (cooler) color temperature compared to the Philips. We just got in the new Philips LED products so we'll be testing those soon! Even the brightest LEDs though still don't match these Xenons. Our test of the brightest LED in a projector (Lumibright XT1 G2) compared to an OSRAM Original Xenon, the Xenon bulb was still a bit brighter, so moving to an upgraded bulb like the CBB will have an even larger advantage. LED doesn't perform well in a Bi-Xenon projector either (in the high beam specifically) due to the design and it's inability to focus light upward when it's needed.
