There's a little recency bias on this list. Franco Harris and John Riggins were better than several of the more recent backs on this list. Going back in time, there was Steve Van Buren from the Eagles in the late 1940s, Larry Czonka from the Dolphins the early 1970s, and OJ Anderson from the Cardinals and Giants in the 1980s should be on this list or at a minimum honorable mention.

With McCaffrey having his BEST season last year and Dalvin Cook having his absolute WORST year Cook still has accumulated more rushing yards than McCaffrey. That was the last great RB draft. In the 2017 draft class Leonard Fournette, Christian McCaffrey, Dalvin Cook, Joe Mixon, Alvin Kamara, Kareem Hunt(ended up being rookie of the year), D'Onta Foreman, James Conner, Aaron Jones, Chris Carson, Samaje Perine, Marlin Mack and Jamaal Williams all came into the NFL. Every one of these RB's with the exception of D'Onta Foreman, Tarik Cohen, and Samaje Perine have at least one - 1,000 yard rushing season under their belt. Tarik Cohen made a Pro Bowl and was voted First team All Pro as KR/PR Chris Carson has two(1,000 yard rushing seasons and he was a seventh round draft pick)

I think I speak for everyone that actually lived through the years Bo was active , that he could be considered the greatest athlete we ever seen , up their with wilt Chamberlain, Ali , Jordan. His athletic ability was beyond comprehension. And numbers will never tell the full story when it comes to Bo. I seriously doubt you did any real research, cause I've seen many that didn't know about research, but their conclusions were all the same once they did. And don't forget , he played baseball as well and he was more committed to baseball than football , so the football would have to wait til Bo completed his baseball season. You really need to do your homework on that because we have never seen anything remotely close to Bo. Imagine Derrick Henry with Tyreek hill speed. Best RB of all time is Jim Brown hands down. The guy played in an era where ALL teams did was run, and defenses stacked the box all game long. He ran for 1527yards in TWELVE GAMES!...And then 1863yards in FOURTEEN GAMES! If not for his era having much fewer games per season, he would have single season records well over 2000 yards...more like 2100+. Most of his offensive lines was so crap sometimes hed have to go 10 yards east and west just to get 4 yards north. He was 5'8 , 208 , rarely had a lead blocker , and many of the offensive sets they used had 3 ir 4 wr , which many couldnt block all that well. Never had a subperb QB so defenses focused in on him. As much as I love Barry Sanders, there's no way I'm ranking him before Jim Brown. Brown won the rushing title in 8 of his 9 seasons, finishing 2nd in an injury-plagued season when he didn't. He scored 126 TDs in 118 games. He averaged 5.2 yards per carry --- a number better than Barry. Brown left the game with a lot left in his tank because acting paid more than football. When he retired his leading career rushing yardage was over 5,000 yards better than the runner up. There are many film clips of Brown being cheap shotted while already on the ground or out of bounds. Chuck Bednarik talked about how players would give Brown "extra-curriculars." Before Jerry Rice was voted the greatest player of all time, Brown was regularly given that title. Brown had short yardage power and open field speed. Tom Landry, then the New York Giants defensive coordinator, developed the 4-3 defense in an attempt to stop Jim Brown. There's a huge difference between making an HISTORICAL Top 20 list OR listing your Top 20 FAVORITES.

Well thought out comment. But have you ever taken Jim Brown's stats, extrapolated his stats to 16 game seasons, then consider that he retired at 29 at his productive best. Add Leroy Kelly's next three years onto it. His salary was $60,000, man. Go ahead, get your calculator, and take a look.

@@JL-ec1by I respect your take on Jim Brown and will not disrespect him in anyway shape or form. I will say this tho he retired at 29 so we will never know what 30 or beyond held for him. He could have suffered a career altering injury or hit a physical wall and not produced at the same clip in his 30's as he did in his 20s. We cannot deny what Emmett did in his mid 30s because he did infact do it! Also we can not ignore the caliber of football that was being played and the caliber of competition that Emmitt was facing in the 90s and 00s compared to that of what Brown was up against in the 50s. I do not mean that disrespectfully, but there is no denying the players and the game evolved in those 40+ years that separate these two great running backs.

@cowboysvstheworld3879 Debatable. The hash marks were wider, the fields were terrible, and the passing game was hardly a threat. Anyway, no disrespect to the greats.
