    The Phonebook Friction Myth is one of the few I would contest needed a revisit as when the phone books separated you can see that a lot of pages were ripped out which indicates it was the pages that failed and not the friction between the pages. Yes it is a technicality however when the pages started to fail in the shop test they did call it indicating that the pages failing doesn't count.

      Phonebook friction is one of my favourite myths. I also like the shark myth though not quite as much.

    • @d4slaimless
      @d4slaimless Рік тому +3

      Agree. It was individual pages failing. One might argue that it is somewhat similar to what Adam did when he ripped single book apart. At the same time you can see that some pages separated intact. Would love to see a closer look at them.

    • @lowe_sa2976
      @lowe_sa2976 Рік тому +5

      I think it's impossible to bust bc page tension gets so strong that books spine just gets tore apart and if you replace paper pages with smth else then u would have to replace books cover too and that means you end up in the same position but this time with much stronger material and much stronger tension so to actually bust this myth u have to somehow mathematically calculate the amount of damage the book itself can take before it gets tore apart but not enough to actually start tearing pages.
      All in all that means you have to have material elastic and strong enough to withstand radically different levels of tension on its different parts, that means you have to create composite material which combines 2 or 3 different types of fibers simultaneously like mother nature actually did in our body when created tendon-muscle type of fiber binding...
      Even then - when someone gets muscle injury it's often that their tendons gets ripped off of bones and not the other way around, so muscle-tendon juncture stays mostly intact
      Okay it's too long. I think its impossible, just try to rip your arm off using your other arm - you cant do that (maybe)

    The phone book pages did not just slide apart. The paper itself tore evenly on both sides. Both books show the same damage. The slo mo shows it well. So they never overcame the friction. Cool.

    My only gripe for Phone Book Friction is I wish they had a upgrade between cars and tanks. Like... maybe a big, powerful pair of trucks?

    • @Yugophoto
      @Yugophoto Рік тому +2

      I disagree purely for the spectacle. Two big trucks on the proper terrain with good tires probably could have separated them. Then the mythbusters would have had no reason to upgrade to the tanks. Going from cars to tanks is just fun.

    I would argue, that the second of the shark myths also failed, as they shot a normal harpoon arrow. The arrow in the movie was much heavier (due to more metal and obviously the "2 1/2 sticks of dynamite" worth of black powder) and not exactly aerodynamic...
    The shot they made didn't prove anything. It's a harpoon, it was made to shoot these kind of distances. The thing they wanted to test - that it would still be accurate with the extra weight and a *metal* cable - they didn't test *at all*!

    • @daringspino3446
