      THere was a comment on a previous episode I think made perfect sense, and paraphrasing,
      Being a child, Adam was the enthusiastic mad scientist type and Jamie was the moderating straight man.
      Being an adult is realizing Adam was the enthusiastic but moderating presence, and Jamie was the real mad scientist and inventor with a quiet disposition.

      In the episode where they were in South Africa testing shark myth, Jamie was excited to be in the cage with the sharks.
      One of the first things that happened was a shark attack and broke the steel bars in the cage, coming quite a bit inside the cage.
      Jamie afterwards laughed about how the shark got inside the cage.
      And was also excited about getting inside the cage and be with the sharks again.
      You know… the typical response of being inside a cage that was supposed to keep the sharks out, that the shark just broke its way into.

    Growing up watching this, I always liked Adam and his energy about him being over the top and just being an extrovert and Jamie was always the dad energy of "be safe and do it safely". But as I'm rewatching these episodes, Jamie not only does exude that dad energy, he's also a badass to the definition of the word. Not to mention an adrenaline junkie. (Its the mustache that gives him +10 stat boost in everything)

    • @mellchiril

      yeah on rewatching I've started liking Jamie's input almost over Adam's. Or at least equally. I don't think the show would've worked half as well without either one of their energies.

    I don't live in a tornado country, have never seen one, and would love to never be in one... but if it were to ever happen, if I can't have the Dominator or the TIv2 then I'd love to have the Hyney protector. It looks rather traumatic being inside one of em, but there's a relative chance you'll come back out alive. I'm here for it.

    One modification I would have made to the TIV 2 is to have a second pair of spikes. It would more than double the strength cause with only a single pair the vehicle can pivot around them and generate torque. If you have 4 then the force can't concentrate on just 1 spike.

      I'm a metric user, but I think 400kph sounds impresive because, well, we are used to the reference number. For example. 120-150kph is your typical motorway/highway speed, while 320+kph is F1/MotoGP top speed.
      SInce I rarely used miles, for me 100mph is a meaningless number. 250mph, what's that? I only recognised how meaningful it is after I mentally converted them to kph. For those who used to it though, it's more impressive. 'Oh yeah, Indycar average speed is 230+mph.'

      could be more of a liability, you could potentially damage your wrists, hands or arms when taking a hit from debris. though that could be preferable to taking a rock head on...

    • @dgthe3
      @dgthe3 5 місяців тому +1

      If it had handles, they should be made so that they could slip out of your hand in case the shield pulls away.
      For a mk2 version, I'd consider having an X-frame as the base rather than a horizontal bar. Spread out that interfacing load between the top & bottom. And I'd also go with thinner rigid foam, maybe 3/4 thickness. But then add a softer foam layer, the same thickness as the thinner hard foam -so its 50% thicker overall. Not sure what could be done to 'firm up' the overall structure so that it is still quick to deploy but less liable to get whipped about by the wind.

    the control is 100% wrong (unprotected STANDING person), Adam should lay flat on the ground too but without protection. its not possible to determine whether laying flat or the shield is the contributing factor. The reason is that you can see Jamie is laying flat alright when the shield came off the first time at 135 before he fixed it. So yeah, its unfortunate that the whole thing become invalid because of wrong control. Why? because IF laying flat vs. laying flat + shield makes no MATERIAL difference (except shielding from debris), then in an emergency, laying flat is still viable. And c'mon aluminium plate isnt that strong without any kind of MATRIX COMPOSITE. The reason their strength test works was because it deflected the object (wood) rather than taking the hit head on.
    But well its a successful entertainment and get me thinking too. as far as the show goes, its a success

    I'd be curious to see this done again using a 777-300ER with the GE-90 115B engines, making 115,000 pounds of thrust, compared to the old JT9D Pratt & Whitneys on this old 747-200 (which only made 46,000 pounds of thrust per motor).
    The wind speeds would no doubt be the same, I'm guessing the newer engines wouldn't have to work as hard though to achieve the thrust required to get the wind speeds needed. But it'd still be cool to see a GE90 115B on full pelt.

    Some of the episodes that really destroyed Mythbusters.
    these crosspromo events where speculative discovery producers, wanted to use one successful show "Mythbusters" to elevate other discovery realityfranchises..
    Adam talked about this on his YT ch in regards to things that was fra from ideal and how much of Mythbusters content that sadly became more and more speculative in its nature, where myths/themes were choosen not because it was interesting Myths but from secondary agendas.
    and it was sadly down to- some of Discovery's very ruthless producers from some of Discovery other "reality shows" that sadly were ported in.
    same with certain nationalist russian Myths that were chosen to appeal to Russia, in the same period that Discovery were trying to sell show to Russia , and itswas in general this speculative nature, where the content in itself wasn't the decisive factor but secondary agendas. .. promote other discovery reality shows, or cater to certain regions, and the nationakistic bias in those regions.

    Well.. where is the difference between windspeed of 160mph and driving a car at 160mph? Why arent all cars go flying then? (Except downpressing force of sportscars..)

    • @LollipopUnicorny
      @LollipopUnicorny 5 місяців тому

      160 miles is pretty fast they used the car which is not very aerodynamic and never goes that fast since it’s not powerful enough apart of that blowing a car off isn’t the same as riding a car bc when car wheels lose the traction the speed goes down

    • @dailybusiness8162
      @dailybusiness8162 5 місяців тому

      @@LollipopUnicorny Hm, I was going 130 miles with a Golf 2 20 yrs ago, not really an aerodynamic car in my eyes 😁 and there are others, light and less aerodynamic cars that could go 160 miles - and I have actually never heard of one going up in the air. Nor would I know that cars in that speed would lose traction and therefor would go slower. Losing traction would be quite difficult to handle as well 😁 I get the point though and its obvious, that it mainly has to do with aerodynamics and downforce as the density of air is the same, no matter if youre driving or get wind blowing at you

      Turbulence & direction.
      Wind at that speed will have all sorts of ripples and swirls and gusts that are overall much more chaotic. With a car driving at those speeds, the air is usually going to be pretty smooth & predictable. Plus, a moving car will only encounter fast moving air from the front. A stationary car can experience wind from any direction.

      Aluminium (Aluminum in North American English) is a chemical element; it has symbol Al and atomic number 13. Aluminium has a density lower than that of other common metals, about one-third that of steel. It has a great affinity towards oxygen, forming a protective layer of oxide on the surface when exposed to air. Aluminium visually resembles silver, both in its color and in its great ability to reflect light. It is soft, nonmagnetic, and ductile. It has one stable isotope, 27Al, which is highly abundant, making aluminium the twelfth-most common element in the universe. The radioactivity of 26Al, a more unstable isotope, leads to it being used in radiometric dating.
