Finally! An OPERATOR that understands what a dozer ripper is for and how to use it! There is a reason there are hydraulic cylinders on the ripper that change the angle of the ripper shank! All the way vertical to penetrate, then roll the shank forward. This does two things. One is that it makes the shank more efficient by using the weight of the material to help traction. Sort of like an axe into wood. Vertical it chops in, less vertical it will lift long sections of wood. But the biggest reason an OPERATOR does this is to keep the ripper tooth sharp! Leaving it vertical quickly rounds it off. Rolling forward always leaves and edge on it to bite into material. This Operator was able to start with the ripper rolled a bit forward due to the open face of the rock, didn't need to penetrate to get started. Every type of material will have a slightly different angle that works best. From coal to softer slate to weathered rock. Good job using the decelerator pedal to maintain traction without excessive track slippage. It is also easier on the operator! This is a LONG day ripping hard rock. Yes this dozer has an exhaust leak. Not a critical issue.
I thought the same. So many videos of how to blunten a boot. There's a generation of operators now been taught by the last generation that didn't know any better
Alot of baby boomer operators learned alot from older boomers and generation before but after kids from turn of century you can't teach them nothing, smart asses thought they knew it all ! I've ran D9G through D11T in almost same atmosphere as this one running in for around 40 years! Had to give it up because of these kids thinking they could get paid for playing on phone all day! Don't know how mining will survive once all of us older guys are gone!
@jeryl68 thanks for the kind words buddy. the smoke is sillicone dust & caused by friction & is not good for the lungs. & yep it is a hard days work & the bosses & owners have no idea what so ever how tough it is on the operators.
I woke up this morning and I heard a cry I saw it was granite about to die For on its head sat a d11 Ripper out and tearing for heaven Granite called for strength of will But D11 was having the thrill Planetary humming and tracks a squeal As a D11 plows this freaking hill !!
@c931D9 thanks for the kind words. it takes a skilled operator to do this kind of work & make the boss a dollar but boy isnt their some cowboy operators [drivers] out there .
No silly music, no pointless face flapping; just raw power. I'm glad I'm not the brave soul in the cab having my innards jarred and my hearing assaulted during the working shift.
These things are truly, Modern Marvels! The size and power of these things, just boggle the mind..... I wonder if CAT has any plans, of going even bigger!?
no mate the 11s are no worse on air filters then any other dozer.all dozers creat dust especially wen its dry. the tractors also have an indicator that alerts the operator when the filters are blocking. some times in extreem dusty conditions the filters may have to be blown out with compressed air after each shift. only takes 10mins to change a set of filters. the more hours per day these babys work means more money in the bosses pocket overall not just to pay its own way. thanks for asking.
ur right it does sound like a miss in the engine but she,s an oldie & good 1 & is still going strong to this day . just a rough guess id say its got a blown exhaust manifold or gasket & some work on the injector pump & injectors wouldnt go astray. thanks for posting buddy.
@florin171 thanks for subbing mate.the komatsu 375 in the background is mine & is no match to the D11.answer to your question is a tough 1.komatsu 375 v D10N&R & 475 v D11 I would give the nod to the komatsu for ripping but CATS are faster pushing dirt & scrapers.
There you go would be ripping operators, exactly how it should be done, throttle control and skill especially working on that edge, super nice touch getting the parked up Komatsu in the frame frontrow!!! Sounds like some exhaust work coming up soon too
to the questions above ...1st he is an experienced operator and he is using his deexcellator pedal to not spin his tracks when ripping ( so he is up and down on his pedal ) 2nd- the edge is not dangerous -he has a natural slope into the pit -if the edge was a vertical slope from a high wall ( blasting ) - he would be far more cautious 3rd-that is not dusty - try pushing on a coal pile in a 30mph wind coming at U-lol clean filters as per conditions ( operators are responsible to know when )
Frontrow, I hope the bosses there at TRN understand what a top notch OPERATOR they have employed at your quarry Bud. The money he is saving them in running costs is huge. My old man would have hired him in a heartbeat and he had very high standards and didn't see the funny side of dickheads on his machines. Your videos are awesome mate
Air filters can be changed in about 10 mins, they are just the same sin car only bigger. when they clog up just swap them out with new ones or serviced ones, undo the covers swap filters and replace the covers easy as that.
Mate what ever that company is paying Eddie ,they should double it. He is saving them twice that in track gear alone. He is one of the best rippers of the hard shit I have seen. P.S Is that at East Kurrajong Frontrow?..Great vid Bud
Maybe the audio in this video is affected by wind or just poor quality sound, but the engine sounds like it has an exhaust valve issue or an injector problem?
Smack a hammer on some blue metal when u get the chance and see what happens! it will take a lot of force to break it.and when it does watch the splinters and dust particulates you create.Hard rock equals friction add to that the weight on the shank of that ripper trying to force its way thru it and that would equate to stupendous forces.hence the reasons you see the rock atomise. The experienced blokes know how to work this stuff, pitching the ripper depending on the structure.if he knows the general lay of the ground he will have a good idea how to work it.This guy knows his shit. he just needs to be appreciated and put in a nice new machine.but i know he knows he can do as gooda job in this and probably as effeciantly in this old girl.money saved.
+AngryTim Ventura thanks for the words Tim everything you say here is 100 percent correct..My boss has recently bought my mate Eddie a D11T to rip with & this old girl has had a few repairs done to it since this video was taken & is still going strong.
I heard that D11's are the worst on air filters. Does anyone know how many times they have to change out the air filters? Is ripping worse then just pushing a pile as far as kicking up dust? I understand these machines are so expensive that they have to work 24/7 to pay for themselves. Is this true? If the air filters clog unexpectedly especially on a night shift, how long is the machine down? Appreciate any comments. Thanks
So at what point do you stop to clear off all that crap? It seems like after you have cleared four pulls wide you would want to push the crap off so you stop running over it and punishing the u/c. No?
Its the dust off the rocks its ripping / breaking. And wow this thing is a total heap lol, how many hours are on it? I will swap you material anyday, that's beatiful material to work with compared to our floors. damn blast crew lol
@busajohnny thanks for the kind words buddy. he's as good as anyone iv seen ripping hard shit. i personally laugh to myself wen i see so called gunns rip tear bust & get nothing done trying to rip with the shank out & with blunt boots.

@brocparsons thanks for the kind words buddy i agree with you 100%. ive been around for a while now & seen a lot & eddie ranks up with the best ive seen in hard shit. quarrys at brownlow hill just west of camden & is owned by TRN group.
sorry bill ur remarks cant be any further from the truth. its an early model D11N & thats how they sound.this engine hhas a lot of hrs on it & is a little down on horsepower but still does its job. this guys ripping hard abrasive rock & has to ride v decelerator to do his best not to spin v tracks. riding v decelerator helps prevent rapid wear of v walking gear & aids in getting v power to v ground in other words traction.

Thanks Max for sharing.......love watching those big tractors hard at work mate!
Those big ol' cat motors are like a symphony. Great video.
I love ripping. It's therapeutic. Just brute power.
No silly music, no pointless face flapping; just raw power. I'm glad I'm not the brave soul in the cab having my innards jarred and my hearing assaulted during the working shift.

Hi, I am into all things earth moving and your video shows a detail of ripping I have not seen before, thanks.
mrbluenun
Dam rite! this is what keeps the world turnin!! dam fine vid!! CAT POWER FOREVER!
Wawww se jeant thanke you very match forever goode job 💪💪💪💪💪💪💪👍👍👍
That dozer sounds like a freaking snapper lawn mower!
nothing beats the sound of a 3508 under load!!!

That operator is babying that beast
thats some big balls man. i love that sound
Its a pain in the ass where the rock packs up under the ripper frame, that's where a Kelly ripper scores
Esse bicho é um monstro, magnífico!!
Is that a broken manifold or a dead cylinder in that engine ? Other than that,.it is a good video on how the ripper earns it's keep !
That's just the way alot of the old cat 3508 and 3516 engines sounded great engines not the smoothest but they are reliable as a old trusty hammer
Don't think they would be running a 2 million dollar dozer with a bad cylinder maybe a exhaust issue ??
I thought The same thing Reg, might be a exhaust manifold, sounds shit Hey?

Sounds like a cat V-8 to me.
he is ripping sandstone which can be extremely hard. is mainly crushed to 75mil & sold as a road base.

exhaust leak ?
thanks for the comments buddy & you are correct on all subjects.
my "dolby audio" is the MAX POWER from the videos.. the Windows... oscillating WOW
haha they do sound awesome under load..thanks for comment..
That should be me Up in the cab Of this big chunk of American muscle dozer
Hey! Wonna get High? Save that smoked created by the friction...lol
very nice machine.the whole time i was pushing it around in my head, like i was 6 or somthing lol. great vid
Amazing sound CATERPILLAR
That's some power ! Get butterflies in my stomach every time he backs up to the edge.

The unstoppable object meets the (almost) immovable objects. Probably a hundred tons of force at the tip of that ripper?
The perfect machine, The perfect Operatör
Is that a hammer impact ripper or just a regular ripper. Seems to be doing the job either way. Thanks to the great vid.
Good operator
great video! the best sound i've heard from D11
I need this kind of ripping bildozer to dig mountain to make my land cultivated
@Mattessj you could have a point there komatsu definately has a lower 1st gear.
@brocparsons thanks again buddy. got more coming.
is that one of those impact rippers that was discontinued because it would crack the dozers frame?
+Buzzer Bill it's actually a ripper off an 84w D10 but has since been replaced a D11 ripper.
impact ripper had a crazy pinging sound.
Outstanding close up ripping action
yeah...he's doin it right. And theres nothing wrong with the way it sounds. It's a whole lot different in real life than from a avi recording.

@13frontrow i guess they set up for one or the other.? like the gearing in the planetaries etc......
Hi 13frontrow,
And thank you for the upload.
I love to watch these beasts working so hard. Sounds a bit dodgy though.
It sounds like a frickin Locomotive!
I could stand there all day and listen to this d 11
That PLACE ! NEEDS ! CEE !! FOUR !! THERE !! THE ! DOZER ! SOUNDS !! SICK !!
i think it sounds kinds cool raw power love it

@mrbluenun thanks for the kind words & subbing buddy.
thanks for the kind words gavin. exhaust sounds mean ay.
el tractor suena como una cafetera y el operario esta ripando con las botellas de doble efesto sacadas
just having a rough guess in this type of rock it would probably generate about 400 ton per hour .
One of those jobs no short cuts rip it properly extracting is much easier need lot of good gentle operator patience with machine
Cê tá louco meu e muita brutalidade um bicho desse. Respeite cartepillar
Its the dust off the rocks its ripping / breaking. And wow this thing is a total heap lol, how many hours are on it? I will swap you material anyday, that's beatiful material to work with compared to our floors. damn blast crew lol
What is the steam/smoke coming from every time she starts ripping?
Rock dust from the ripper fragmenting the rock
@busajohnny thanks for the kind words buddy. he's as good as anyone iv seen ripping hard shit. i personally laugh to myself wen i see so called gunns rip tear bust & get nothing done trying to rip with the shank out & with blunt boots.

Think it's safe to say she needs a good service
tremendo fallo de seguridad hay maquinaria aparcada debajo del talud y otra maquina aparcada en la zona la zona de influencia del d11.

Brute force - nice/ wow..
wow nice vid!
it sounds like the dozer engine has dropped a cylinder ? it's missing maybe a burnt valve.
+Wombat situation room A bit smoky on the left exhaust stack too - would confirm your suspicion.
+Wombat situation room sorry fellas all it needed was an exhaust manifold gasket still going strong to this day..
+MAX BIRKETT Were is this and what isthis job
Hi Christopher this site is a sandstone quarry just outsibe Sydney Australia..
+MAX BIRKETT i ran a 11 about five year's on moutain top removal coal job in kentucky until president obama said it was bad
awesome machine....
Sounds like that dozer needs maintence
Dude that's bad ass man 😎🍕✌
First video I seen using a ripper the real way is ment to use ,not ripping clay or top soil . This is work for that ripper , not booshit work.
Excelente manobrador
Nice 👍
whats with the smoke coming out of the rock?
Pulverized rock powder made from the extreme pressure is my guess. Anybody know for sure?
deltavee2
Parts of us smoke too, when under intense friction :)))
deksper Derek
She: Do you smoke after?
He: I don't know. I never looked.
Thanks, Derek. I'd forgotten that one :-{)
I guess its caused by friction Nelson..
Manifold gasket is blown.
just seen yet. super vid
I just meant the engine sound.
Take care

@generationll thanks buddy.
sorry bill ur remarks cant be any further from the truth. its an early model D11N & thats how they sound.this engine hhas a lot of hrs on it & is a little down on horsepower but still does its job. this guys ripping hard abrasive rock & has to ride v decelerator to do his best not to spin v tracks. riding v decelerator helps prevent rapid wear of v walking gear & aids in getting v power to v ground in other words traction.
MAX BIRKETT This guy is the only one on all the UA-cam channels that know how to use a ripper probably. Good operater
@calaverex thanks mate.
I hope he's zoomed in. That's way to close.
Keep up the good work.
Great Vid. Man that's got to be hard on gear
@JimHowDigsDirt thanks buddy.
@bigfranco87 got to agree with you there. thanks mate.
nice!
Manifold gasket's leaking, makes it sound bad!
True....that sound is bad.
What happens when muffler bearings are not replaced on a regular basis.
I want to get out of the office and drive stuffs like this in a mine :(
