As a construction inspector I watched a dozer hit a big rock only it turned out to be a mastodon bone. It was fun watching paleontologist dig out the rest of the mastodon by hand. The area was closed off to construction for a couple months. This was at the Diamond Valley dam in Southern California.
I love operating any big dozer or even a wobble stick backhoe. Really, anything that has to do with working in the dirt. The smell of new cuts, either rock or soft dirt, just makes the work so much easier. And having control of a machine that big doing the work just makes it that much better.
Ain't nothing like backing up and hitting that one rock we didnt see damn near break your teeth if your shoulders close enough to your chin...yall operators know what I'm talking about 🍻
I was glad to see a very serious roll bar. A kid across the street went to Cal Tech for an ME , spent his life a Cat. in Peoria. I think he mainly did gear train calcs.
Some 20000h of this.. then fresh paint and RB for sale/auction, good as new... I can't even imagine how rough times these machine go trough. That kind of fight with hard rock "24/7" really do wear stuff out..
The D11R weighs around 230,935 lb (104,750 kg)., carries 388 gallons of diesel, and requires 28 gallons of engine oil. Its about 28 feet long, 12 feet wide and 15 feet tall.
@@Bowiiihowdy I ran a 11R with a coal Blade for about 4 years and a 10T for 5. I prefer the 10 over the 11. The 11 was a hog but had to build power up. the 10 was alot better balanced better throttle response. When working the sides of the stock pile benching and sloping the 10 was just alot more agile. There's pros and cons with both machines.
Great footage, working real close gotta know and trust your fellow mates, love the single shank!. Why the u dozer and backing up 4 million feet for not a load?
A big dozer likes a foot or two of material to run or rip on, try to leave a bit under your grousers don't polish the rock it makes dusty work ,keeps your butt on the seat .Good vid....
They're maintaining it... That undercarriage and those grousers are like new for an R.... Agree, not sure why its deployed to do that difficult rock work, just blast it and let it push it!!!

Can you imagine if you put a 1500hp Main Battle tank engine in one of these things? It’s crazy that something 1/2 it’s size has twice it’s horsepower. But this thing chews up bedrock like butter. I wanna see someone build a Dozer around a 1500hp engine. See the carnage.
So much power in that machine. Shame to use it up in that manner, would be simpler and more environmentally friendly to use explosives. Why burn diesel, use oil and grease, when a few well placed sticks of dynamite would do the same thing?
Drilling ,loading holes takes longer. And its a Cat, not a Crapatsu. It's made for that stuff. That said, as a dozer guy,I'd rather it was blasted too. Ripping anything, sucks.🍻
All depends on how much rock theres is. Being close to residential.or commercial makes a difference to. Some of the mines ive worked at theres a fair amount of rock between it and the coal so blasting makes sense. Easier to move
Bird dog and all the others that say blasting is easier. Too right. And I would add, 50% or more times I see a dozer on a job I think, that could be better done with another machine.

It's hard to grasp the size of these machines from videos. There's nothing like feeling the ground shake when one starts tracking towards you
Ya saw a D 11 go through a Richie bros auction and the whole place shook
I've done it as well successfully and no equipment was damaged, my D-11 was very productive. Theyre built CAT tough. 😎
Cat is the best
@@markthompson5315 10-4 on that my friend. 👍

No solo es la máquina, si no también el tractorista, se necesita mucho conocimiento. Excelente profesión.!!!!! 🙏
Super vid thank's for sharing. Like the Cat's.

Watching that D11 work. Made me realize that I really don’t understand just how powerful they really are. Plus that operator is one lucky man
They are beasts. Ive never ran an R but the Ts are just monsterous compared to a 10

@@danwatson8245 the old 11Rs with the 3508B are slow. Try a D11R with a C32 T engine. Makes the R so much better.

Poor D11, needs to become friends with AnFo
its a machine not human.
Ripping hard rock is tough on man and machine.
Some Dynamite would make y'alls life a lot easier 😄
Rip Rock ,
be a waste of explosives
Is that a hydraulic actuated quick release for the shank?
that looks like some good New England farmland right there
Looks like prime NH crop soil!
😂😂 😂
It is ripping rock as a piece of cake. Mega strong.

this is normal blasted material, blasted rock will lock together, depending on the amount of powder $$$
Need to blast that crap
OH THAT RIPPER!!
I call him JACK!
I just RIPPED one.
O,would never get bored of beating a machine like that.
So glad I am NOT a mechanic on this site! You'd need a full time person ordering parts and a very high budget.
Ma in Italia non ce ne sono di queste macchine?
Are job positions available with you?
Had a quick go of one of these in Cyprus, you can not see shit, takes a lot of skill

Just the weight of the Dozer alone is fracturing the ground below him when he rips
Well that was fuckn exiting
What a machine
Pretty soft rock
