Great interview with Adam. They are doing amazing things over at Skydio, including the Dock. I can’t wait to see what they have planned for us in future. Thanks for sharing.
Absolutely love the doc idea and the automation. I had a friend ask me a question and I don't have an answer, maybe you can help. What keeps someone from walking up and stealing the drone and the dock?
Nice Job BK! Very interested in two parts, the mobile dock. And the stationary one... I need to get some quotes... because I have use cases if the price is right... very very cool
All those upgrades in the scottio still won't go over 500 to 1,000 ft away don't need a follow drone need to be able to fly it it should do both I'm waiting for that day Adam
Do you happen to know if all these drones are and will be remote ID compliant? That alone can create a whole lot of new issues. I think the only other concern would be their security systems. What are they doing to prevent one of these drones or data systems from being hacked? Especially in a high security facility.
It's like a flying Roomba.... Hahaha! My Samsung (of course) learns my house and gets more efficient each time it operates. Which is cool! My question has to be when operating indoors: Do all the lights need to be on ? Couldn't that be a problem in most applications? I wouldn't have this drone do an inspection during normal daily operations with hilos/ people running around but after hours.
Good interview BK. I really want to love Skydio but I just can't as much as I try. I hope someone from their team reads this and suggests a course correction because I really believe they have some amazing potential in spite of the painful fails they keep racking up. 1. Get a real sensor for the entire line of aircraft - We all know the Skydio sensor (Sony's IMX577) is VERY old tech at this point. Its time to upgrade in both size and performance. The bar is at M4/3 and 20 MP. Get over that bar. Not just for EO but the IR is also old tech. The BOSON sensor is available at 640 why aren't you using it? Stop skimping. Bring the best, always. 2. Get a real Remote - this is the single interface the RPIC has to control the aircraft. Don't rebrand some trash that's old tech. Build a remote that is as smart as the drone or smarter. The enterprise remote is the BARE BONES MINIMUM that should be offered. PERIOD. The Beacon is reckless at best and dangerously illegal at worst. Kick that to the curb. 3. Change the message - The Skydio website says, "Turns anyone into an expert pilot." and that's an ignorant and dangerous message for a young and growing community to get from any company. A single piece of technology, no matter how advanced will not "turn anyone into an expert pilot" no matter what anyone thinks. That technology might provide the highest degree of obstacle avoidance or the best object tracking or the highest accuracy 3D models but it won't make a human an expert in anything, ever. PERIOD. Saying that a single piece of technology will replace hours of flight time, practical experience, and thoughtful mission planning is at a minimum inaccurate and at worst a boldfaced lie. If you're willing to lie to get me interested in your product on your website then you're going to be willing to lie about other things. We have enough companies that do that. Be better. Be honest. Admit you're wrong and remove the lies. 4. Is landing on the battery the best option? That makes me nervous EVERY SINGLE TIME I see it. How can that be good for battery lifetime? I get the hand catching but... Be better. 5. Make the AI assist the pilot and not over rule them. I've never flown any Skydio product because I've been told that the drone can and does on a regular basis, makes course corrections when it thinks it knows a safer route than the pilot. At that point, I keep asking myself, "Who is the RPIC?" If the Skydio makes a bad choice, that causes injury or damage, who calls the FAA? The RPIC. But who was controlling the aircraft? Am I the only person that isn't willing to completely sign off to a drone's best judgement? Why can't the Skydio just help the operator make better choices? Suggest a better option? If the RPIC chooses to ignore it then that's on them. Sorry for the rant on this one but I'm hopeful that someone from Skydio reads this and understands the concerns enough to take some action. I want to be a fan. I want to ditch all my DJI products and buy Skydio but those 5 points (and there are others) keep me from making that leap.
Did you see the Drone show put on in China over the New Year ? Multi layered , thousands of drones simultaneously...erc .. WE NEED ...... massive manufacturing increase to MILLIOns of swarm drones for Recreational, Public Services and of course China / Russia / Iran etc issues .... we need millions with advanced capabilities and deployment launchers for r5, 20, 100, 1,000 , 20,000 swarms . Get on it ~!
it seems the company is heading away from consumer grade devices to expensive professional grade and defense.....shame, they could have pushed the drone industry and whoop DJIs ass

Great interview, Billy. I was about to get rid of my Skydio 2+ but now I'll have to re-think it's future and what it can do for my business.

System security is an implementation requirement across the board, for every industry.
Yep, they are killing it in the defense and public safety sector... Of course, we all know why. The dock is really cool though!

Good interview
which drone did you fly in downtown SF?
Why wasn't the functionality demonstrated?
