  • Deepnest is an open source nesting application, great for laser cutters, plasma cutters, and other CNC machines. Available for Windows, Mac and Linux. Deepnest packs your parts into a compact area to save material and time. It automatically merges common lines so the laser does not cut the same path twice. This not only saves time but improves part quality by avoiding heat warping from multiple laser passes. Deepnest employs a state of the art part layout engine with part-in-part placement and the ability to nest bitmap images for laser engraving. It can read DXF files, SVG files, CDR files. It can export DXF files and SVG files.
    Deep Nest is Free - Download from deepnest.io/
    (MW Laser as No Affiliation with Deepnest.io)
    Simple to use in 3 steps...
    1-Import your file.
    2-mark the largest part as your sheet, then hit start nest.
    3-Deepnest will continue to search for better solutions until you hit stop, then just export your layout as DXF or SVG file format.
    Import into your CNC or Laser Software, RD Works, LightBurn, Etc.
    Set your machines settings for the imported file and your ready to start cutting and saving money on materials.

    DeepNest is still available and Open Source. Impressive. Autodesk charges 1700€ a year for that functionality. I used to use Lasertools for Corel - but the company isn't available anymore. Allthought their stitching option was very, very useful.

      Oh it will be useful once I get a laser cutter haha.
      My plan is to buy an 80w red and black from VEVOR . And then upgrading it with parts sourced from your website.
      If only you sold something like that with the upgrades already installed! haha I'd jump on it.

    can you add a gap size between shapes? if you are using a wider cutter for example?

    I haven't had good luck with DeepNest. I recently upgraded my laser from a small 300x700 laser to 900x1600 format and was hoping this would save me from having to manually nest all my smaller patterns into something much larger for the bigger laser. In regards to a 6"x6" squarish shaped item, DeepNest was only able to nest 40pcs into my cut area and it was in a very scattered pattern (tried the combinations of Optimazation Type and Ratios) . I was able to format the same item into 6 inline rows x 8 inline columns to get 48pcs. The additional 8pcs was an extra profit of $320.00 for the same piece of material. The software was very easy to set up and use and the pop up explainations in the setup menu were something every program should use. I would just suggest that the user doesn't just assume that DeepNest is giving them their best yield.

      I find it useful, however I can understand that it is not for everyone or every job. Cheers Matt

      I had seen Deepnest before in the past and my experiments with it were similar to yours. I find I can way more efficiently nest just by eye and trial and error using 'block' in SolidWorks. Sometimes I had let it run for a long time, but I found after 5 minutes there was usually no gain. I REALLY appreciate Matt's explanation as it covers all the aspects and is very practical instruction as usual. However, I will keep it in mind for future projects as I had forgotten about it.

    I've been using deepnest a while. I didn't realize you could nest to multiple sheets at a time. It has one annoying bug that might be important for some folks - when an object contains circles (like a drillhole) they do not always stay with the object when nested. I've only noticed this behavior with circles - squares or irregular shapes work just fine.

    • @MWLaser
      @MWLaser  3 роки тому

      Thanks for the comments. That's interesting about the "drill holes" I have been using this for about a year and never had any trouble with circles within shapes. I'll have more of a play and see what results I get. Cheers Matt

    Thank you,! Do you know if a camera image of the cutting material from the laser cabinet can be utilized to nest onto?

    • @MWLaser
      @MWLaser  3 роки тому +1

      Yes if you use a lightburn camera you could use the trace image feature to outline the material and get a shape to nest items into.... Then import the svg back into lightburn onto the material image. Hope that makes sense. Cheers

    Hello friend, your tutorial helped me a lot. I am having problems, the letters of the words are separated, The letters are scrambled, I wanted the word to remain whole. how do i resolve this? Can you help me?

    • @camdavbax
      @camdavbax 8 місяців тому

      Does it change anything if you group those pieces or surround them in a snug fitting rectangle? That way it will treat the word/group of letters as a single object.

      I have not had this issue, maybe check settings for both software to see if there is a resizing or ratio setting as you mentioned. Cheers

    Deepnest is not good. It is not able optimally nesting part. By manually nesting i find that i can set more parts on the sheet than deepnest

    I find some placements that DeepNest used not economic at all. Program could place letter I almost anywhere but it placed it diagonaly at the end of the sheet, sticking out from rest of letters. Letters like D should be turned towards sheet's edge with flat side, yet program turned it with belly to edge, wasting space,... Anyway still good to know such solutions exists.
