TheManaSource Coul you build a Control deck with "as foretold"? you can cast 1 counterspell for free each turn. i dont know if this is good enough for a deck but i hope it might be
I'm curious as to whether you thought about putting Yahenni into this deck. Was it a push-pull against Bontu? Not enough space? Too expensive at 3 mana? I would think a free sac outlet would be good, but I could see there being a reason or two for the exclude, just wondering about your thought process. In a similar vein, where did Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim stack up on this list? Similar issues, or just too fragile? Would love to hear your thoughts!
Wedge, I wanted to say thank you for making this! I had thought that bontu was a really bad card before this but now I see just how powerful she is!!!! Thanks!!!!
I already built a commander deck similar to this with Kambal as commander. Zulaport cutthroat is of course in there as well as blood artist and alternate win-con is Aetherflux Reservoir. It was mostly a silly theme deck but it's killed the opponent in a two-headed giant game more than once
That's a nice aristocrat build! Rounded, solid, any changes could be made as a matter of choice (or local meta). Thanks again, Wedge! For the next build, I would love to see Gruul or Naya aggro, so many inspiring cards available!
I built something very similar on mtgo for very cheap, and it's way better than I expected, still working on the sideboard, I want to try out 2 gideons when I can afford them, but for now I'm using two Yahenni's, a one of sorin, and a playset of grasp of darkness, Kambal out of the sideboard against control has some great drain synergy.
when I built this deck, I included red, primarily for unlicensed disentigration, and made it more servo based, with master tinkerer, chief of the foundry, and cogworker's puzzleknot, which with a hidden stockpile, gives 3 servos!!
right after aether revolt released I had made a similar deck. 2 cards that can be pretty good are vampiric rites and angelic purge. Card advantage and a difficult to remove sac outlet with vampiric rites is great, especially if it comes down turn 1. angelic purge handles most annoying threats and exiles so things like scrapheap scrounger are gone forever.
Have you considered sacred cat over servo exhibition? From what I see, sacred cat is also two 1/1's for 2 mana when you embalm it, which usually isn't an issue when you are sacrificing a lot of stuff. Sacred cat also has lifelink, and can be partially paid for on turn 1.
I can't wait to get bontu into my deck - perfect addition! Thanks for the list and deck tech. Amonkhet has brought some great additions to this deck and such a great set for limited and cube!
I just build a similar aristocrats deck about a week ago. But I'm only focusing on servos. my wincondition is sacrificing them as well, but I also have the flip land which turns into a lifelike, indestructible, hast, Flyer,... a fumigate and most importantly the Marinettes master it's a lot of fun to play this deck
Boy, I once played the black green Nantuko Husk aristocrats deck back in the SOI days. Literally the only standard I ever played when I showed up to FNM where no draft fired but someone lent me their standard deck. Loved playing it and went 4-1 despite having never played standard before. Seeing another aristocrats deck possible now in standard is certainly interesting. I don't like standard because I don't feel like buying expensive cards and having to sell them a few months later, but these cards are all either cheap or also good in EDH, so... who knows.
this deck plays so darn fun guy! hit a friday night and only lost to a deep control deck (red blue control) and i think i only lost that because i didn't have the side board well thought out. it's tokens and options flippin every where, it seems like the options for kill your opponent are just every turn. all the creatures and spells play off each other so well to the point it's just crazy. oh did i say it's fun to play too! guy's put avison in your side board she flipps so easy it would make your head spin! i think i flipped avison by flipping a westvilabby all while killing them for points with cut throat. it was nutz!
I have been playing Aristocrats in some shape or form since Zulaport Cutthroat was spoiled. I've done well at some local events, and have made top 8 at a PPTQ with the deck. I like the one you have built, but I always have green in my build for Eldritch Evolution, an incredibly underrated card. Anyway, solid deck Wedge, and I love it when Aristocrats gets the credit it deserves!
I will do it at some point. I'd probably go bant to run Tamiyo and that 2/1 flying pirate that adds counters if it damages a player to make a theme outside the camels. Meanwhile the 0/4 camel makes for a nice blocker to protect planeswalkers or anything else you are going to spam counters on. Haven't quite figured it out, but it sounds like fun.
I actually run a Golgari Aristocrat deck in Modern for really cheap. It uses large toughness creatures to sacrifice to create more fodder for my other creatures, making Zulaport deal a ton of damage, or I can give a creature intimidate that gets bigger when I sac a creature with it, so it's a huge unblockable creature.
i already made thos but you showed me how to perfect it thank you. i didnt use the white/black enchantment instead used the white that every time one leaves the field every turn they get +1/+1
After playing George of Anguish and Steve of Anguish, and losing a lotta games, I finally switched them out for Herald of Anguish, and now I'm losing less than a lotta games.
How about some sweet ineraction between Tree of Perdition and Illusory Wrappings(basicly Reduce in Stature)? I missed days where Triskaidekaphobia deck was surprisingly effective and could have won out of nowhere. Now there aren't so many painlands, but feels like it's even harder to pull this trick off.
I had plans to make something like this, but you have cards I didn't include primarily due to either price or me underestimating them, great deck though!!
Yahenni looks strong here and Weaponcraft Entusiast was an allstar in the GB version from a year ago. Aethersphere Harvester could also be a good inclusion. It doesn't fit the main game plan, but it does offer good synergy with all the small creatures.Thoughts?
dude keep up the great work. I love how you go into detail on what to swap for budget or how to make it more competitive. I've been playing a more expensive version of your mono black aetherborn tribal since that video game out. love it love it! also, would replacing gideon with the new lilly be good?
I've been playing Esper Superfriends and it has been doing amazing for me! If you'd like to see the list, let me know! Always happy to spread the word of Esper around.
I've been trying to figure this deck out since Aether Revolt was spoiled. Thanks for the tech! It's better than what I came up with, that's for sure. Also, Wedge, think you might be able to do a B/G -1/-1 counter deck? The deck seems to be right there! It just needs someone better than me to figure it out.
hi. I'm thinking of creating this deck as an upgrade to mono black aetherborn. only thing Gideon it's not in my pockets and can't be. what about Angel of Invention instead of him? she creates 2 creatures and pump them.
I indeed have made something similar to this, it has most of the cards too. Hidden Stockpile is indeed a very broken card in this deck, as well as Anointed Procession.
what about budget B/W zombies maybe in like 2 to 3 weeks but using pelage belcher and tossing the counters on small embalm creatures bringing them back as tokens and using token/zombie support to pump them maybe splash red for things like combat celebrant to swing in for 2 times a turn
Bontu the Glorified, while it works well in this deck, I built a deck, although I am not a very good deck builder, but I built a deck (Black and Blue) that has many methran zombies, and other zombie card, very strong ones and not so strong ones at that, I put Bontu in my deck and it has been working great because I can sacrifice any creature I want and then bring it back for maybe 3 mana at most the next turn, and having four methran zombies n the field, with an enchantment that gives all of my creatures flying, certainly helps for blocking big creatures.
I've been tinkering with a G/B variation since Aether Revolt came out. Haven't had much luck since the strategy I'm running is cost prohibitive, but maybe Amonkhet will fix that. Centerpiece is Master of Marionettes. Generate a boatload of servos, get the Master online with +1/+1 counters, then drop Hazardous Conditions.
I've run a Mono Black version with green splash for Tireless Tracker during Kaladesh, and it was quite decent. With the addition of Hidden Stockpile, Expertise etc. running W/B is better imo.
I built an Abzan aristocrats deck for value cards like rallier, exemplar of strength, channeler initiate. and i wonder why u didn't considered yahenni, he can let u sacrifice stuff for free. Isn't he better as the one with "1,sacrifice an artifact: he gets a +1/+1 counter"? great video, keep up the good work :D
so I've been running this list for a few weeks and tend to find it wiffs a lot. Either I end up with a sac outlet but no sac fodder or have the sac fodder but no sac outlet. All too often I find my only sac fodder is coming from the stockpile, and all it takes is the opponent to destroy my single servo in their turn and I have nothing to sac next turn. Only in the longish games do I find the deck really gets going. I've also found that I don't really get a whole lot of gain from attrition from the cutthroats.. they just get killed asap before the sac engine comes online. Il be taking out one maybe two syndicate traffickers (hasn't proven useful at all) and trying more token generators for sac fodder.
Yo Wedge! Can you deck tech something powerful featuring Samut, Voice of Valuuuueeee?? I keep thinking three color midrange/aggro. Naya, even Temur maybe? Naya version running Samut, Glorybringer, Glory-bound Initiate, and Arlinn Kord? Her A-Side +1 is tremendous with Exert!
Bant Luxa control has to be a thing. Between Kefnet and Nissa, this deck has to be sweet. Besides, we need to find a place for Tamiyo while she's still in standard XD.
Why not Bant? In those colors you get three Nissas to choose from, two Gideons to choose from, Dovin Baan, Tamiyo, Jace, Kiora, not to mention fog effects, counterspells, cheap creatures, Bounty of the Luxa, the list goes on. Besides, who's to say Tamiyo isn't good? When I saw Approach of the Second Sun I didn't think it was any more playable than Battle of Wits, yet people have worked and built a solid deck around it. So, why not Bant Luxa control and why not Tamiyo?
Tamiyo isn't a control planeswalker. In control decks you are paying 4 mana to get a choice between strictly worse divination and whatever the -2 is supposed to be. It's a bad, too mana intensive planeswalker to run when you don't play at least 20 creatures, which you will not do, since it's a control deck. Approach is a fringe win condition. Sure, you can have fun with it and get occasional wins, but it's still fringe. Fringe = Unreliable. Dovin Baan has never seen any play because it does nothing against most decks (as it's even worse in a deck with so little removal) and any wrath effects are too bad in vehicle.meta. Why not Bant Luxa control? Because it doesn't have the support it requires and it's not in any way better than Temur or Sultai..
Hi! I wondered why you didnt include the following cards, what do you think? Stasis snare Altar's Reap Blighted Steppe Swarm Surge Voracious Null Cast Out Solemn Recruit Secret Salvage (SB) Defiant Salvager Dawnfeather Eagle Selfless Spirit Yahenni, Undying Partisan Gavoni Unhallowed Hanweir militia captain Declaration in stone Kind Regards
I tried running yahenni and you'd think he/she/it would be a good right? Free sacrifice has to be good?...he/she/it isn't. Didn't make any sense to me but he/she/it is mediocre at best. I actually prefer Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim.
you know not to be an elephant in the room but there is something that could kinda replace Gideon. it's allied reinforcements from oath, you get 2 2/2 for 3 and 1 white. that is if you are on a budget
legit bought the pieces for a deck like this today. mine focuses on dumping servos to get to orhmandahl or herald or just overwhelm with lots of servos. also using the mimic +animation module combo and I would be interested to know if you looked at that interaction at all Wedge???
I came back to MtG after a few many years of non-playing. The Amonkhet flair is really nice. Do you think an okish counter-burn deck could be built with what whe have in standard?
could something like this work with Indulgent Aristocrat (sac a creature, +1/+1 on all vamps) and go for a more vampire tribe? The dream been swinging with four powered up Gifted Aetherborn.
Well, I have a W/B Aristocrats deck brewed up and it's a lot different: 1) It uses Sacred Cat and Doomed Dissenter, and maybe Carrier Thrall if I'll need more 2) I run Pious Evanger as a worse Zulaport, in addition to Zulaport ofc 3) Smothering Abomination? The card is so much value and draws a lot. 4) It runs Yahenni to sac your whole board at instant speed, FOR FREE, to kill your opponent with drain triggers. Totally agree on Stockpile and Push, same for Dusk//Dawn. Bontu looks sweet and will have to fit her in, same goes for Bone Picker. Is this list also viable?
The difference between these two decks is their endgame. This deck (Bontu) wants to get some value and incremental life drain early game and end the game with Bontu or the Herald. Your Deck (Yahenni) wants to end the game with life gain, but can pivot and swing with a huge Yahenni plan A goes awry. I'm a fan of both and will probably end up somewhere in the middle of both lists.
Im not too sure about this I feel it's more a tokens deck than aristocrats, I'll probably brew something with a green splash for blisterpod, catacomb sifter, replace gideons with green gearhulks. I dont think herald is quite the direction I'd want to go for a big gibblly finisher and I feel that ballistas should have been an auto include
Fuuunny story I have about Ohrmendal... I had an Izzet Counter/Burn deck and had an instant bounce effect spell that I kept mana up for, since I knew my opponent was going to be trying to play big things. W/G tends to try that. He got another Plant and another Soldier, then tried to flip Westvale Abbey into Ohrmendal... I bounced that thing so hard. I may have lost that game, but the Izzet player in me grinned harder than The Joker watching Batman just come closer to one of his clever traps. Or Robin doing the same... in either case, I have one thing I'd like to ask Wedge. Pauper Deck updates with Amonkhet? Pretty dang sure there are some potent commons for Pauper format in this set.
We went back and forth on a LOT of inclusions for this deck. If you have questions, PLEASE ask. I have a ton of notes.
TheManaSource if you had to suggest anything to replace Gideon, what would you suggest? Sorin?
TheManaSource Coul you build a Control deck with "as foretold"? you can cast 1 counterspell for free each turn. i dont know if this is good enough for a deck but i hope it might be
I guess Sorin is ok? I'd prefer to just add what I said in the video, but Sorin is alright. Not the best though.
TheManaSource thanks for the response!
I'm curious as to whether you thought about putting Yahenni into this deck. Was it a push-pull against Bontu? Not enough space? Too expensive at 3 mana? green white camels. make it happen
Johan Skotkonung Cats and Camels tribal. call it "Cats Humping"

Yeah this is a lot like the deck was talking about. Mines not as efficient but oketra's monument and Bontu helped me out a lot at the prerelease!
I actually run a Golgari Aristocrat deck in Modern for really cheap. Sweet deck tech Wedge. This is my favourite thing about about the recent ban. Creativity is blooming.
I've been thinking on making this deck for modern or legacy. And possibly splashing green, with the main colors being white and black of course.
Thanks wedge built this deck. Now I got a better grasp on this deck can't wait to test it out!
i already made thos but you showed me how to perfect it thank you. i didnt use the white/black enchantment instead used the white that every time one leaves the field every turn they get +1/+1

Well, this just makes me what to see you make your Orzhov philosophise video.
I had plans to make something like this, but you have cards I didn't include primarily due to either price or me underestimating them, great deck though!!

Kind of tried to do this during a draft yesterday... It wasn't terrible, but needed a few of the missing pieces for sure haha
Recommended Demon of Dark Schemes in the side board for grindy games. what can go wrong when you play your opponents deck
I've been playing Esper Superfriends and it has been doing amazing for me! If you'd like to see the list, let me know! Always happy to spread the word of Esper around.
I made a fun B/W samurai tribal for modern, but the black is mostly to support the deck
Great videos man, you always seem knowledgeable and professional. Keep up the good work!!
Currently I run a white and black deck all revolving around hidden stockpile, call for unity, and Yani, the undying.
Yahenni or whatever. I typed this late at night
have had a loosley similar revolt deckmgojng since pre-release. works pretty well
totally makeing the deck for my local shop, the deck seems strong and won't get hit hard when zendikar and shadow Cycles out
Looks like many of the cards i've thrown into a recently built death and taxes B/W EDH deck.
i made a mono black tribal Aetherborn deck and this just makes it so much better👌
It's on the list!
There's probably going to be many versions of BW aristocrat deck builds. The other obvious variant will probably have mummies involved over artifacts.
hi. I'm thinking of creating this deck as an upgrade to mono black aetherborn. only thing Gideon it's not in my pockets and can't be. what about Angel of Invention instead of him? she creates 2 creatures and pump them.
nice deck ! and omg i just realised Herald of anguish would be greeeeeat in a Glissa The Traitor EDH :0
Oketra isn't half bad, since it gives you a way to generate more tokens at instant speed if you end up in a longer game.
Can you either make a budget Red Deck Wins or a budget 8 Rack for standard. There are a load of cards that go nicely into these two archetypes.
I've been playing orzhov aristocrats since kaladesh and I'm finally starting to have some success lol
I indeed have made something similar to this, it has most of the cards too. Hidden Stockpile is indeed a very broken card in this deck, as well as Anointed Procession.
In my opinion retreat to emeria does slightly work as a gideon but not in the most ideal way
I'd suggest running 4 Sacred Cat in the sideboard in case you need to play more beatdown against a control deck
what about budget B/W zombies maybe in like 2 to 3 weeks but using pelage belcher and tossing the counters on small embalm creatures bringing them back as tokens and using token/zombie support to pump them maybe splash red for things like combat celebrant to swing in for 2 times a turn
Running this deck may actually get me back into Standard
I couldn't lose Hidden Stockpile. That card is just insanity.
It really is.
I can't express this enough... I NEED a New perspectives combo deck tech!
I'll add it to the list!
I've been playing a very similar version of this deck since Aether revolt came out
Question. What do we do when BFZ rotates?
Bant Luxa control has to be a thing. Between Kefnet and Nissa, this deck has to be sweet. Besides, we need to find a place for Tamiyo while she's still in standard XD.
Tamiyo isn't even good in control. Why Bant? Wouldn't Temur or Sultai be, like, objectively better?
Why not Bant? Besides, who's to say Tamiyo isn't good? When I saw Approach of the Second Sun I didn't think it was any more playable than Battle of Wits, yet people have worked and built a solid deck around it. Sweet deck. I might give this one a try.
I'd love some type of cat tribal deck for standard now that there is a cat lord.
I tried wb aristocrats before Amonkhet, and multiple Hidden Stockpiles is absolutely ridiculous
Hi!
I wondered why you didnt include the following cards, what do you think?
Stasis snare
Altar's Reap
Blighted Steppe
Swarm Surge
Voracious Null
Cast Out
Solemn Recruit
Secret Salvage (SB)
Defiant Salvager
Dawnfeather Eagle
Selfless Spirit
Yahenni, Undying Partisan
Gavoni Unhallowed
Hanweir militia captain
Declaration in stone
Kind Regards
hey wedge you should do a black green -1-1 counter deck it seems like it might be fun
Why no Yahenni?
I tried running yahenni and you'd think he/she/it would be a good right? Free sacrifice has to be good?...he/she/it isn't. Didn't make any sense to me but he/she/it is mediocre at best. I actually prefer Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim.
Singularity yahenni is they/them
I run 2 yahenni's in my version, and so far he has been very good.
Eric Christman they*
Did you just assume their lack of gender!!?? #Triggered
weaponcraft enthusiast is a decent budget option replacement for gideon, 3 bodies for 3 mana.
you know not to be an elephant in the room but there is something that could kinda replace Gideon. it's allied reinforcements from oath, you get 2 2/2 for 3 and 1 white. that is if you are on a budget
I was looking at building something like this. But no Gideon for budget reasons
No Yahenni? I figured a free sac outlet would be very good for the deck.
For the sideboard against aggro, Yahenni's Expertise? Board wipe with triggers for days plus a free spell?
legit bought the pieces for a deck like this today. mine focuses on dumping servos to get to orhmandahl or herald or just overwhelm with lots of servos. also using the mimic +animation module combo and I would be interested to know if you looked at that interaction at all Wedge???
If you could do golgari minus counters, that would be awesome
Looks pretty sweet, definitely my style of deck! :)
Would love to see this deck updated for HOU.. been playing it and love it, but not sure there are any great updates from HOU - what are your thoughts
love aristocrat strats, look at decklist, starting out strong. see the gideons and fatal pushes, backs off and puts wallet away
I came back to MtG after a few many years of non-playing. The Amonkhet flair is really nice. Do you think an okish counter-burn deck could be built with what whe have in standard?
the deck looks pretty baller. kudos to you wedge
Can you do a deck tech with something pummeler, I'd really like to see what amonkhet has done to it
What made you guys not do the metalic mimic & automation module combo in this deck? it pumps out servos to sacrifice just a thought..
Please Try a Temur morph Commander! After seeing your Ixidor Video I was hungry for more Morphing goodness
could something like this work with Indulgent Aristocrat (sac a creature, +1/+1 on all vamps) and go for a more vampire tribe? The dream been swinging with four powered up Gifted Aetherborn.
Well, I have a W/B Aristocrats deck brewed up and it's a lot different:
1) It uses Sacred Cat and Doomed Dissenter, and maybe Carrier Thrall if I'll need more
2) I run Pious Evanger as a worse Zulaport, in addition to Zulaport ofc
3) Smothering Abomination?
I'm a fan of both and will probably end up somewhere in the middle of both lists.
thoughts on UW control with R splash for Nahiri, Magma Spray, and 1 Sweltering Suns?
Im not too sure about this I feel it's more a tokens deck than aristocrats, I'll probably brew something with a green splash for blisterpod, catacomb sifter, replace gideons with green gearhulks. I dont think herald is quite the direction I'd want to go for a big gibblly finisher and I feel that ballistas should have been an auto include
bro I really think you should do a deck with "approach of the second sun" its an insane new card from Amonkhet
Gideon and Bountu working together? hahahaha, I love it
please please please do the Gruul Hazoret/Rhonas list!
Can you provide playtests for these decks? It'd be nice to actually see them in action before buying anything
truly glorious wedge
Nice one wedge! Keep it up
A few more decent zombie cards in hours of devastation and maybe a bolas and we can have tier 1 zombie tribal in standard.
Would you play Gideon's intervention in this deck for zombies? And or planeswalker's
top ten best group hug cards? I'd love to see your take on it wedge :)
I like the deck, confused on why there are stills of magic art in video and not Wedge stripe shirt wearing
Please do an edh decktech for Adriana, captain of the guard
So for a 15 card sideboard, what would be the optimal inclusions?
can you please include how many of each in the side board, other then that thanks!
Pretty dang sure there are some potent commons for Pauper format in this set.
if you want Pauper ask the Professor at Tolarian
green white or bant tokens please i could really use the help as i can't pin down a decent build for the new meta
Wedge, if I want to splash green what cards should I add other than nissa voice of zendikar? Is cryptolith rite playable?
What do you think about Smothering Abomination in this deck?
What about a 5 color trial/cartouche deck?
