This is arguably the worst part of the game. I tried for an hour figuring it out on my own, but I just couldnt figure out how to get naval superiority for the life of me. same i am playing Italy in the tutorial and trying to invade Ethiopia. Ethiopia has like no navy I have every sea region patrolled by Italian Navy and it says I have 100% naval supremacy but it still wont allow me to commence with invasion. Frustrating.
Paul Rutherford The troops that start out in Ethiopia are well enough to take out Ethiopia. It takes a ton of time because Italy really sucks. If the land there is owned by you, you can’t navally invade it.
@@HelloNurse678 check that you have enough convoys and the required technology. you can also put your navy on 'assist naval invasion'. also if you are struggling to move armies across water between owned areas a garrison command always works for me. also make sure sometimes that all your units have moved to a proper port as sometimes only some of the units will go.
Me too. I often outnumber the Japanese forces on the southern tip of their home island (Nagasaki, as it turns out) to the ratio of 127 to 10, via about five separate, coordinated invasion forces (and yes, my forces are fully supplied), but they constantly beat me back. I know I'm doing something wrong -- probably something simple -- but for the life of me I can't figure out what it is.
Thank you for the video. I just got HOI IV and I'm trying to invade Norway from Denmark as the Germans and could not figure it out. I really appreciate you taking the time to make this.
Why were there no enemy divisions waiting for you? Nobody's there! Every time I do this there are divisions at the ports. Is there anyway to recon a port in advance?

You use shift! It was confusing me too for a while. Shift works like CTRL normally should work. This means theres no button for what shift should normally do, select all units between the two you shift click, right. But whatever, I guess its A solution.

There are parts of the ocean that are red and it won't let me through, what do I do?
I made a naval invasion order but it says I there are no units assigned it tell me how to assign them I click the first key and it says I cannot assign the selected units to this order
According to my tests the best invasion is made with 8 (!) marines with 5 battalions (5 marines inside the division in the division designer) composition, so 10 width each division, that's exactly 80 combat width. There a debuff if you land more than 8 divisions at once. It doesn't matter what support battalions you have though, so make sure they have the artillery support for the extra soft attack. It's very rare that you have less than 80 combat width, so you should not have any debuffs.
To test it you can have an invasion with more than 8 divisions into a location with a division defending that spot, then click to see the details of the battle and then you will see the stacking debuff (iirc it's -20% to both attack and breakthrough, I don't remember about penetration though) if you have more than 8 divisions attacking at once. Then you can do another invasion with less than or exactly 8 divisions and you'll see that the debuff is no longer there :)
Yes, 4 divisions with 10 battalions would work also. Basically you would use this much firepower only in case they defend really well a specific island or a port with mountains (like in Greenland). I prefer to have lightweight divisions, so that I can invade multiple locations at once (the AI needs some time to wake up). By the time the AI wakes up, I already have 2-3 beachheads, so war is kind of over :) I'm talking about US and UK invasions, obviously.
I'm not sure what i did wrong. i have my units assinged to a naval invasion i can see the arrow but they dont seem to move. they just stand still at the port and dont do the invasion. i have enough transports and naval superiority. is there something i may forget?
So I try to invade China as Japan with 2 armies, 8 marine divisions each. 3 fleets patrol all coastline. Air superiority in sea zones of invasion way. One works, one gets stuck with "some units have not reached the start position" (all 8 divisions are in port). Is it a bug?..
This video is ancient history - Paradox has done a lot to "fix" this issue, but there is still needed work to be done. Please post a link to a good video about this. I will if I find one. maybe.
does naval invasion work only with marines? can I send tanks or artillery with them? also I noticed in you division designer for the marines that you added units horizontally meaning you didn't add units to the original two marines at the left but used a different column. is there a specific reason for that?
It can work with any unit. And no, from my knowledge the only thing that matters is the unit width. How you have it in designer means nothing. 20 for generals, 22 width for field marshals that have the -10% to own width
+Flying Ross Thank you. About the naval invasions though, I tried to plan one as Italy with 48 divisions but every time I set the plan it's says on the arrow line that no divisions are assigned to it . I tried manually assigning units to it but it didn't work. I have about 2000 transports. Note: I didn't know about the research you mentioned so I didn't do any of it does that have anything to do with it?
+DK988 it most certainly is your research. You need to research transports under the naval tab. Try selecting one unit and ctrl left click to assign just one division. Do this over and over until it will not hand anymore. If you have no research it is probably 10 units. Which honestly is enough to secure one beach head and port then use regular transports for the rest of your army
I hope that the problem with my "challenged" American Empire generals is that I don't have all the sea zones under superiority. I have been waiting three months for a simple island hop to launch.
I feel i should point out that all those negative terrain effects on your Marine Division are from the line artillery you decided to put in. The only modifiers Marines themselves give are bonuses to Attack and Movement over rivers, in marshes, and during amphibious landings. If you want your Marines to be as effective as they can be at their job, the only combat battalions you should use are Marines. If you want artillery or anti tank, your better off relying on support companies, as these do not apply any debuffs to the division.
Naval bases do not increase the range of your ships because you upgrade the port. The range increase is because you have even 1 port. Let's say your build one in Hawaii and there are no ports there. Once it is built all your ships can stop there for fuel so now you have increased range. Does that make sense? Individual ship classes can range upgraded with naval experience/doctrine/political power people you can buy

I sent 10 divisions of SS soldiers to go and capture England so I started a naval invasion and the when the transport ship got to the shores of England my soldiers aren’t getting out. How can I fix this?
I'm trying to do 3 naval invasions as Japan against China. My navy is in the right spots, (Yellow Sea and the Southern Chinese sea) Divisions of marines are assigned and have enough preparation. I also have Air superiority yet they won't move. What's the deal with this broken mechanic? It never works or tells you what you're actually doing wrong.
Do you have the tech to move your units? The tech limits the total number of concurrent landings, not individual landings, so if your three landings add up together to more than 10 divisions for the first transport ship tech then you won't be able to invade. Also, make sure your navy is on a patrol mission, not a hold mission. A patrol mission is required for all sea zones the convoy will be crossing. Also, make sure you have enough convoy ships.
One thing you forgot Ross, is that your navalbases also need to have enough capicity to hold all the troops you're trying to transport. So if it's only level 1 naval base, it will only transport up to 10 divisions in total. So Sam, check out if your navalbases are on a high enough level to be enable to transport all your troops.
navy bases do not have a effect on capacity at all. It is only about the transport technology and the amount of transports your nation has. Just tested and sent 30 units out of a level 1 naval base. Naval bases only have an effect on the amount of supply that will come through
?????????? They are Convoys, which you can produce through Naval tab in Production menu, or if you mean actual transport ships as in research, you go to ships tab in Research menu, and at the very bottom you can research the different transport ships, but you don’t have to produce them, and the later research are for higher division capacity for naval invasions and overall easier invasions

youll need to click the Army (ie select the general to select all 24 divisions) and then click the anchor in the orders tab. You will then need to click on a naval port you occupy/own as a start point (you dont have to have troops next to it, they will go to it), and then you will need to click on the enemy shoreline where you want to land. You can land each group only adjacent to itself. Once you have done this, you have set an "order" just like a land invasion, and they will need time to plan it. While they are planning, make sure you capture naval and air superiority of the areas in questions, all areas your invasion force will go through (the game looks significant different today than it did in this tutorial video so some commands have changed). Once you hold superiority and planning is complete, click the order execute button (above general's picture) like you would for a normal land invasion and the naval invasion will commence. Remember that capturing enemy ports is essential for supply.
