AMEN I still hope one day modelwork and cgi can come together and make some truly seamless and beautiful things on film. I love that the Mandolorian is using a lot of model ships again, just enhanced by cg for thrusters, lasers, etc. It looks so seamless, and is even further proof there is still a place for good models
Those shots really still hold up today. Case in point, I watched Die Hard 2 recently on Blu-ray, on a 1080p projector on a beautiful huge home screen, and yet I did not peg any shot as involving miniatures other than those featuring planes or explosions, and I'm speaking as someone who has a real knack for spotting miniature work.
The only shots in that film that looked "modelly" were the establishing shots of the NEA orange airliner and the various crashes, which of course HAD to be models.
Industrial Light & Magic are credited for effects in DIE HARD 2. Did Boss Film get replaced on this film as well? Bill Neil worked for Boss Film after Richard Edlund left ILM in 1983. Didn’t know Apogee worked on this as well.
There's no "ooh" and "aah" watching movies today because it's all cgi and green screen, Yes I have seen some modern films not at all impressed directing, Writing etc... Pathetic lack of talent!!!
More proof that well executed properly photographed miniature effects do not age one bit. Thank you for posting!
Amen, It's all cgi and green screen today pathetic film making!!!

I would’ve never known any of the airport shots in that movie were miniatures.
That's the whole idea. See? The guys did their jobs correctly! 😁
I never knew this was a model. Till right now. It was an airport!!! Wow. Amazing. :) Thank you Apogee and Bruce (and everyone).

I'm so glad these episodes continue to be posted!
There are many more coming up! Stay tuned.
It was so good, that until this footage, I was convicted this was shot on an actual airport
Was reading up on the making of Die Hard 2 a few weeks ago. Happy to see this video.
Incredible work! Miniature work is a lost art. Hope to see it return more prominently in future films.
its not a lost art, there is tons more model work than you realise still going on. Even CGI artists scan physical models,
@@Rockhopper1 compositing?
@@Rockhopper1 I'm sure there is, but it's all completely engulfed by digital fx.
I actually saw Ilsa shewolf of the SS movie at the theate as a teenager...it was the 70s.
These shots were MINIATURES!??? Holy hell mang, well executed practical effects always stand the test of time!
I just love anegdotes like these - the most wonderful type of trivia! My only concern is I'll watch all of these clips one day ;p thank you!
I can only say splendid scale works of these great masters of the world of modeling, what beauty and unique detail
Absolutely love it!
Ilsa - sure- Hans Gruber's sister! Another wunderbar interview!
I remember them using models in the movie but I don't remember the airport itself being one. I'll have to watch it again
Never know it was miniature all along! The planes included!
"Die Hard 2" doesn't get the credit it deserves. It wasn't as good as the first but it was still pretty damn good, all things considered.
knownpleasures The operative word there is "arguably."
よぉーく考えると納得出来る事なのですが「ダイハード2」も、ミニチュアを使っていた映画なのですね!!

Apogee only did the one scene. ILM did the majority of the work.
And these guys got paid to do this! What fun :)
I would take this type of filmmaking over cgi any day
What paint do you to paint scale puppets use sometimes
ohhh the model shop boys.......
Narrated by "Cliff Clavin" from cheers
These are great, but can you imagine going for a pint with this guy? ;) That would not be fun.
Bruce has so many funny stories to tell. He's worked on a lot of movies. I had a great time doing his interview.
@@piercefilm I've enjoyed hearing Bruce's stories the most out of all the interviews, he's very dry and it keeps making me laugh

The film though was complete crap
I really like it
I would have loved for these effects guy to have built me a set for my batman and Ghostbusters toys to play in when I was a kid lol..there amazing!
