- Feb 2023: This video has now been here for 2 years and I am very pleased with how many people it's helped. We replaced the cooker in December 2022 and we are very pleased with that too. We are convinced it uses less gas than the old one, review here:
• Cannon Cooker Review 2022
And the new one lasted for just 13 months! See here: • Video
Sir - don't think the internet does not appreciate your venturing into the unknown - you have bettered life for humanity... well you saved me a lot of pain.
Love it, thanks! 🙂
Mister, you are a life saver. Well, a £500.00 saver! Just fixed my oven door in 20 minutes for £24.00 rather than shell out for a new one!
Hey Gill that's great! Thanks for taking the time to comment. But I think we should all thank whoever came up with the idea of UA-cam. :-)
I had a similar problem and I resolved it by fitting some washers under the bottom hinge and this cured it.
Thanks for this-helped me with the same door on our old Chichester Cannon. I noticed you had trouble with the upper oven, specifically regarding the lower door still being closed, try opening it next time, watch from about 2:25 and see how it interferes. Thanks again.
Well spotted that man! It shows there is some value to reading comments before watching the video, although I never do! 😀 I hope your comment helps other people but as I've said below, we now have a nice new version. Thanks for the comment.
Many thanks. On our cooker the problem was just that the hinge screws had come loose, but I spent ages trying to figure out how to get at them to tighten them up. So your video was a real life saver! With the screws tightened, the door shuts properly.
Excellent Dave, glad to be of service.
Hi I have the same problem, where did you get replacement screws from?
Hi. I loosened the top hinge and wedged a sliver of metal along the right hand side, tilting the hinge to the left. Worked a treat!
Another solution, that's great!
Thank you so much for your help. I have recently acquired a 2nd hand Cannon but stupidly pulled the top oven door off, (trying to pull out the cooker by the handles idiot that I am. ) I can now fix the door back on now I know how the hinges work.
You're most welcome. Thank you for taking the time to comment.
Success! Bought 10mm x 3mm round magnets. Rob fitted them to oven edge, but then found my door was aluminium so they wouldnt hold! He removed original closing 'rod', made a small metal plate, and converted a screw, fitted them in under 15 mins, and Bingo - it holds shut tight just with magnets. So easy when you know how. No need to take oven apart.
Great news! Thanks for posting here; maybe someone else will benefit from your experience and save a few quid.
Hi I have the same problem, where did you get replacement screws from?
@@footyportal1228 sorry it’s 3 years ago I just can’t remember - but it still works. Good luck.
If there was a way to send you a picture of what Rob fitted I would post it here - but can’t find how.
I had the same problem where I had to lift up the Cannon oven door in order to close it. Discovered it was the roller catch that was the problem and not the hinge. Once the roller catch was replaced the oven door smoothly shut like it was brand new.
Thank you so much for showing this excellent tip for solving both my problems - taking the top oven off which allowed me access the door and fix that as well 👍👍
You're welcome. Thanks for the comment! 🙂
Hi I have the same problem, where did you get replacement screws from?
Have exactly the same problem as you had / have. It started to occur shortly after the end of the extended warranty I took out. Very good cooker (apart from this hinge). just 6 years old
Fantastic! I broke the glass ans had to take it apart to fit the new ones. I didnt have a clue before this video.
Glad to be of service! 🙂
@@floydraser4603 Did you sort the hinge out properly after? I may be scrapping one soon.
@@abergreg No I didn't need to do anymore. It was quite alright for a couple of years until the thermocouple gave up the ghost.
I also moved the bottom hinge to the right, which helped. And by lifting up the bottom of the top oven door while open, I could remove the top hinge without removing the top oven door.
Thank you. Great video 💎💎💎
Thanks I have fixed my upper door in few mins :D Greatttttttttttttttttt !!!
Hi I have the same problem, where did you get replacement screws from?
The door on my Canon Harrogate cooker - same door style - used to work by lifting it. Now it wont close at all. Friend scratching his head and is going to search internet. There doesnt appear to be any play on the hinges. A neighbour had same cooker - same problem with difficulty closing. She was so glad when she could afford a new kitchen and scrap it! I've just had my oven cleaned, and it works fine, escept for d** door. Hoping for a miracle.
Has your friend looked at the catch? Could be a spring loaded wheel in there which may have siezed and not moving. Just a thought. Good luck!
Update November 2022: Unfortunately this cooker has finally bit the dust! 😪 After years of faithfull service we decided to go for a new one after the grill thermocouple packed up. The gill would only light if you held the button in for ages and even then, it would randomly go out after a while. However, the top oven burner would light ok (same knob/tap) so I assume it's the thermocouple. I looked into changing the thermocouple as it's only about £15 but it looked like removing the back of the cooker and a lot of hassle. As we are about to retire we thought now was a good time to change. We have replaced it the latest version of the same cooker - Cannon by Hotpoint. I may shoot a review of it, look for a link around here soon.
I tried to sell this old one on Facebook Marketplace but it attracted some dodgy characters, so it went down the tip.
Hi floyd going to look at cannon side hung door for my brother bottom hinge not connected also door looks like it has come unstuck down side
nightmare these did a cannon winchester never got the door back on ended up buying a new one.
Extremely useful video. Our door will shut but the oven wont come on, unless we lift and hold the door up c1mm. The amount of play in the hinge. Is this a related issue?
I'm not an expert but it sounds like it is. Sorry I can't be of further help. I now have to look into replacing the flame failure device for the grille.....
PRINT SCAN COPY AND COOK >>>>>>>>>>> must be Cannon, brilliant.
When you say you were going to put in a bushing but couldn't , and welded the top hinge pin, was this because the hinge pin had worn and needed replacing, or because the mounting in the door itself had been worn ? Found a company that sells spare hinge pins and wondering if a new one would be a suitable fix? any ideas? thanks for the great video, really helpful.
Mark, The hinge is steel and the door looks like aluminium. I was hoping to find the door was also steel, making it easier and more practical to fit a bush. However, with the door part being ally and a bit thin, bushing would be very difficult.
We have same problem but it is the door catch. Can’t get the side off the cooker!
Sorry Andrea, wish I could help, best of luck!
Most of the screws are visible holding on the side panel including 1 at the back on the bottom. Then there is 1 more covered by the top of the back panel, so loosen the back panel. The last 4 screws are covered by the front panel with the control knobs on. To remove this front panel, remove the knobs and the two screws under it - open the top oven door. After removing the top panel screws, slide the top panel to the left.
Hi Floyd do you know how to replace the bottom brackets which hold the inner glass in place? Are they screwed in like the top ones, if that is the case do I need to take both doors off. Many thanks
Hi Jools,
I'm not sure but if I had to guess I would say yes. I've just had a look with a mirror and the bottom bits which the inner glass rests on are screwed like the top ones. The outer ones would come off but the inner ones have the hinges so the door would have to come off to release them. Hope this helps.
