    In terms of maps and navigation, it should be worth mentioning that the Fenix 6 pro ties in with the Garmin explore app and you can near-instantaneously get routing information/navigation to any point that you select on the app (so long as you previously downloaded the maps on to your phone). So if you're ever out on a run and didn't preload the route but you're curious to know how much further it is to your next waypoint/summit etc you can get that info super quick. No other brand has anything even close to that

    • @ChaseTheSummit

      Yup, that's definitely another reason why the Garmin nav features are way more advanced. Thanks for sharing!

      i'm just feeling wary on fenix 7, because garmin really made a mess for the fenix 6..too many types and prices..fenix 6s,6,6x,enduro..even the 6x has 4 types..6x basic without maps, 6x pro with maps and sapphire, 6x pro solar, 6x pro solar titanium..also the enduro is top battery life but has no maps (they said to conserve battery life but it's suppose to come with a toggle whether you want maps on or off)..so confusing and really feel purposely made like that so we just get the highest model

      @@ChaseTheSummit do you think the Fenix 7 will have very comparable battery life to the Vertix 2?

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  2 роки тому +1

      @@vg3222 I'd highly doubt it. COROS's magic is mainly in part to their dimmer backlight/duller display tech along with just doing less stuff in the background. Garmin's are always processing something (body battery, stress tracking, etc...) But it would certainly be a nice surprise if they somehow managed to beat the Vertix 2 in that department.

    I was, denying mail in coros California if it s possible to see like in my fenix the name of every city, n road that I mean. Walking real time on the watch n they reply not for the moment because was designed mostly for mountain run or sports in mountains that roads doesn't exist...

The so called dual frequency feature in Vertix 2 is what is calling my attention. The music feature is not that important for me... battery and accuracy are the main features I'mlooking for. It would be more interesting to know how accurate wrist base hr readings are when you are resting (and sleeping). It is much easier to wear chest strap while running than all the other time. (If watch supports external hr monitors)

      In the testing I've done so far the Altimeter between the Vertix 2 and Fenix were within 10 meters of each other in most cases with similar looking trendlines. In terms of the SpO2 sensor's it's a bit harder to quantify because none of them are perfect. I haven't had great success with any of the wrist worn SpO2 sensors and intend to make an entire video about just that. Hope that helps.

    The Veritx from a build quality perspective tops the Enduro. Although they are both titanium bezels, the Vertix uses grade 5 titanium which is way more durable than the softer grade 2 titanium used on the enduro. As for the contrast, sapphire cyrstal affects contrast in indoor lighting. Mineral crystal is less reflective which is why the enduro looks sharper. A fenix with sapphire will look the same as the vertix indoors. Also, less buttons is better in terms of water resistance as there less points of possible water intrusion. Cant go wrong with either but Im a Coros fanboy lol

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  2 роки тому

      The Vertix does have great build quality but the display isn’t just due to the sapphire glass. I have a few Sapphire Fenix 6’s and 7’s and all of them have way more contrast and “pop” than my Vertix 2. It’s something to do with the actual displays they use I think. Thanks for watching!

    Great Video! really comprehensive. I recently moved to Coros from Garmin with Pace 2 to try their ecosystem out: I am digging the simplicity. I am now thinking of making the move to Vertix 2 given that I need a bit of map support and battery longevity for long trail / hikes. This being said, I puzzled by the Vertix lack of Ant+ and would like to know if this means there won’t be any compatible chest trap heart monitor compatible with it? What about Stryd pod?

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  3 роки тому +9

      Thanks! Actually Stryd Pod and most modern chest straps (Polar H9) connect over Bluetooth low power so you should be fine. The lack of ANT+ will really on effect triathletes or cyclists that have older cycling power sensors and accessories. Hope that helps!

  • @RunnerRemRem
    @RunnerRemRem 3 роки тому

    Dave you cannot compare the crispness of the screen between a watch with Gorilla glass (Enduro) and a watch with sapphire glass (Vertix 2). The sapphire glass by nature absorbs more light than the Gorilla glass and it affects the crispness/readability of the screen.
    Edit: Excellent and informative video, thank you Dave.

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  3 роки тому

      It's not just compared to the Gorilla Glass but even compared to Garmin's Fenix 6 Sapphire the screen on the Vertix 2 is much duller and washed out with the backlight on specifically. In bright sunlight they all look pretty similar. Thanks for watching!

      @@RunnerRemRem Garmin doesn't specify but Garmins sapphire is quite durable. I've had multiple Sapphire Garmin's over the years and abused them without ever scratching the glass. My gorilla glass watches scratch 100% of the time. Hope that helps!

      @@ChaseTheSummit my comment is just meant to explain why the Vertix 2 might have a dimmer screen. Sapphire and DLC coating are part of the explanation. I have the Vertix 1, and unfortunately won't get the Vertix 2 because of the large footprint of the watch and the excessive price. Appreciate your great work Dave! Thank you.

      @@RunnerRemRem Oh I gotcha. My comments about the dim screen are less about the glass or what it looks like in direct sunlight or good lighting conditions. Why is it that the battery life of the Garmin is so much less?

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  2 роки тому

      Various reasons. The Vertix 2 is a simpler device and does a lot less "background processing" the Garmin has a lot more smartwatch functionality that takes more juice throughout the day. The Garmin also has a variable backlight that can be boosted to 100% brightness compared to the Vertix that has a non-adjustable dimmer backlight. Out of the box the Vertix 2 only samples the heart rate sensor every 1 minute during "all day HR mode" while the garmin samples every 1 second which takes much more battery. All of this adds up. The COROS was designed to squeeze every last drop of battery life from the battery while the Garmin is balancing performance and battery.

Wasn't sure if the solar would do much but on a bright day it's noticeable how the battery barely drops. It's not enough to actually charge it, but certainly helps prolong it.

      @ChaseTheSummit  2 роки тому

      lack of ANT+ is a bummer for some. I think they needed to do this to make space for some of the new features like dual frequency GPS but I'm not totally sure. That said, the Vertix 2 is still compatible with most Bluetooth sensors.

    • @Panagiotis-Skordilis
      @Panagiotis-Skordilis 2 роки тому

      @@ChaseTheSummit Without offence i believe that info's about "make some space" is totally bs. They not even reveal what unit of gps is inside of that watch. Some of us use ant+ for many years and we invest on that. the joke is they ask 700 euros for a watch that doesn't have all that simple features plus navigation like Garmin. I am not Garmin fanboy but Coros shot their heads with the vertix 2 really.

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  2 роки тому +1

      @@Panagiotis-Skordilis For sure, I don't know exactly why they removed ANT+. I'm just speculating because I would assume they would have included it if it were possible. I'm just guessing that they needed space on the board for additional components like storage chips/additional GPS components but again... a total guess.
      Truth is the Vertix 2 is targeted at a pretty niche audience in the ultramarathon/endurance world and for those users I think ANT+ may be less of an issue. It's likely more of an issue for users that are Triathletes or cyclists.
      They've heard the complaints though! So we'll see what happens in the future.

      That's because there's really no clear cut answer as to which one is better. A lot of it comes down to preference, what ecosystem you're already using, Do you like having tons of data or a simpler experience? Is battery life more important than other features? What colors do you like? Etc... etc... It would seem unfair for me to just state "Well this one is better" when that may not be the case for you.

    If you do jogging under 10km in known area, you need to watch or fitness tracker, if you lazy, sure get just cheap tracker which will help you count pace, the rest is useless information. If you're pro athlete all these metrics will be measured by real medical grade equipment.

      It's not a one size fits all situation. Just because you don't need certain features doesn't mean they simply don't have a use case. Personally, I find a lot of value in the Garmin Body Battery metric. It's a great way to plan active/rest days on top of just quantifying "how I feel" in the morning. The good news is if you don't want all of these features there are far cheaper options out there!
