  • Flotsam and jetsam from around the world washed ashore along the Pacific coast and beyond.
Since 2015 when John's Beach-Combing Museum opened to the public it has built up a reputation known around the world as being one of the most unique exhibits in the world.
There are literally tons and tons of salvage from the sea and John has given every single item a place of honor -- putting like items together -- there is a whole bin of Raggedy Ann doll heads (just the heads) bottles by color, lures, tins, anchors, floats, dolls, balls, hand tools, netting -- you name it -
One man’s trash is another man’s treasure, or in John Anderson’s case, it’s the cast offs, trash and "lost at sea" items of who knows how many thousands of people whose lost and discarded items were found by John along the Pacific Coast.
The retired plumber from Forks, Washington, spent decades combing the beaches of the Pacific Northwest, and in 2015, opened up a museum displaying his vast collection.
In the 1970s, John began looking for glass buoys or floats, which were widely used in the early 19th and early 20th century, but were later replaced by aluminum or plastic buoys. All those buoys have now been built into a totem pole landmark -- visible from Highway 101.
The diversity of what has washed up on the shore that John has "rescued" is mind blowing. The oldest item is a mammoth tooth. He also has a notebook of all the "letters in a bottle" he’s collected and he responds to each and every one many of which came all the way from Japanese school children and were washed ashore after the 2011 tsunami.
John has sorted like items together and has one whole section dedicated to items that washed ashore in the years following the Fukushima Tsunami
