Wow ...i did mine 2 years ago inframe kit 3k labor 2700 and 1000 small parts ..so around 7k in 4 days and still running good ...i did it in long Beach ca ...
Just recently had mine rebuilt due to a dropped valve on #5. Gold kit, head, #5 injector, single turbo, all CAT parts minus the turbo were $18,029. Also had all new paint, belts, pulleys, and hoses replaced. 53 hours of labor at $138/hour. 1 year 100,00 mile warranty. Grand total $34,171.
It’s always good to be ready for a situation like this specially with the cat engines that everything is so much more expensive. And this was done at a certified cat or dealer? Or your mechanic?
@@T.W.S.1223 It was done at Tony’s Diesel in Sioux Falls. They do really good work and mostly specialize in overhauls, mostly CATs. Once work was started they finished in about 4 business days
I wish I would have gone your route. Altorfer in Addison got me. Convinced me I needed an inframe. Ended up being an out of frame platinum. Long story short out 46k 3 weeks and it runs worse than before. Turns out the o rings on liners deteriorated and started passing coolant into the oil pan. My head was new so was the turbo and compressor. They wouldn’t warranty it unless they replaced everything. Runs rough and smokes heavily on startup. Since no codes are thrown they refuse to do anything. Even warranty will be useless as I run 35k a year.
Altorfer in Addison convinced me on a platinum. 46k and 3 weeks later I have a rough idling heavy smoking pos. They will not do a thing about it because no codes are being thrown. Even warranty is useless because 3 yrs will be up and I’ll have less than 100k miles on it
That sucks… looks like we can’t even trust the dealers like that either.. that’s the bad thing about cat they are all about codes codes codes.. rough idling and smoking is a clear indication that they didn’t do it properly.
@T.W.S.1223 No kidding. Wow. I am shocked. What is the name of the manufacturer that made the aftermarket stuff? If you don't mind saying. I own a C-15 also. It is in a '01 Pete. I think I am getting up there on my 2nd in -frame. Probably going to need a 3rd maybe in the next year. Got a platinum rebuild last go round. The man who did the work has retired though.
@@jerrycoggin9434 He mentioned the aftermarket parts were Interstate Mcbee. I bought an oil cooler from them and various gasket kits and have been happy with the quality.
@@jerrycoggin9434sorry so late it was interstate mcbee. 3rd inframe? Somebody had told me that after the first inframe the engine gets weak and no good. You’re going for the 3rd.. how long does it last u and how do you feel the engine after inframe?
I have two of them. One of them went 998k before a rebuild and is still going strong at 1.85 mil. My other one I bought with 1.3 mil, I had it rebuilt and it has gone 130k with no problems.
I sure did. But I don’t know what the benefits are to switching to single turbos other than the simplicity. A lot of mechanics have told me twins are better. I am thinking about switching to single turbo now. There’s one of the turbos that was failing already. Looking at my options at the moment.
How’s the blow by on ur c15? My c15 accert has had blow by since I purchased it most people have told me it’s normal on a c15 I’ve heard some people have had blow by right after the overhaul
I haven’t seen any blow by since the overhaul. But before it I did. It was up to the point where I would be at a red light and I’d see all the smoke come up. It still ran pretty good just lost power on last few gears
Lots of important details! Awesome video.
Great video, the price you paid sounds about right. It was great of the shop to give you a year warranty.
And everything so far has been good 👌🏼👌🏼

Nice! You got a good price
You got a great deal on that inframe!!
It really was a good deal.. gold kit and labor

I would be call caterpillar then because it is on record what that shop did to the engine. My 2 cents
Where?
Very insightful video, I have a 2005 t600 with a c15 Mxs and need to be ready to do a i frame at some point.
Going aftermarket hasn’t been bad for me. And I haul pretty heavy most of the time

Where do you live where you couldn't get CAT parts?

I got c-15 & c15 acert twin power is grest but fear of 30k rebuild rumors are laid rest w this info
It’ll definitely be up there if you take it to cat directly. But finding a good shop that’s reliable, aftermarket parts work just fine

Where are y’all from ? 30-40k is crazy for a inframe we start at 5k with out parts but at the end ppl pay around 15 to 18k max
That’s what caterpillar or Kenworth charges 30-40k. I paid 15 k for the inframe the rest was extra I did to the truck.
