The sooner you get the truck under a heavy load for 500+ miles the better. After a rebuild... Pistons, liners and bearings... you need to get the rings to set and get the bearing wear set then do your first oil change to get the break-in glitter out :D
You called it these emission engines don't last as long and have lots of issues. Fuel mileage is great, but if you can't keep the good fuel mileage trucks out of the shop it doesn't matter. Reliability is king.
Use to work for some owner operators in Alaska. The first thing we did when a new truck showed up, was remove the fuel tanks and lay some sheet rubber in the tank cradles, then reinstall the fuel tanks. Without the rubber, the rocks would wear holes in the bottom of your fuel tanks.
Twin turbos build boost faster and and the twins on an acert engine will run around 55 psi reliably for a long time. I rebuilt my c13 at 1.1 million just because that's cats service lifespan and it was burning a little more oil. If you're worried about turbo lag you can tune your acert to get rid of it but just understand that putting one big a.. turbo on there that will generate the boost of the twins will have even more lag.
WICKED GREAT. Single turbo CAT is the best way to go. Hopefully your guy used the Bully Dog or the PDI conversion kit with a good computer Tune set at around 550HP. Single turbo trucks usually pick up at least a mile or more to the gallon. In your operation it will probably be a little less since you pull permit loads. JUST SAYING. 😎😷🤔🏆
Never ever was twin turbo issue on Cat Acerts people have it in their head because 6NZ series was single turbo and ran the best so its twin turbo issue. Its programming that Cat did for emissions causes to have that dead pedal feel and not have this very fast get up and go. For people who think its "hardware" problem we had company with 2 glider kits put in MXS series engine in them that we overhauled and they run hard just like 6NZ, pulled hard and no lazy pedal feeling yes completely stock and rerated from 475 to 550hp torq didn't change. 1 of them crack the block through main bearing saddle. So with only a year on overhaul it got new short block still runs hard like before. On 2 of other gliders they had but older they put Acert twin turbo setup on 6NZ and they run like there set on fire. People think that lazy throttle pedal feeling on Acerts is low power when its not and never was I've done the dynos.
I think the MXS is a awesome motor .... but i can def tell a difference between the twin and the single setup...... 2 factors that pushed me to go single turbo... 1. mpg 2.price on twin turbos
@@flintcreektransport Its not turbo lag its ECM program not giving it fuel that lazy throttle feeling you have. It doesn't give it fuel to keep combustion temp down to lower Nox. Again never ever was twin turbo problem. Change them to single turbo and lag still there but changing program (tune) what really changed engine on how it runs. Prove that twin turbo not the problem put complete acert twin turbo setup on 6nz and they run even better over single turbo I've seen it easy 55-60 psi of boost.
You literally just answered my questions to the dead pedal feeling like nothing is there its in the tuning for emissions cuts back some of the power so it doesn't smoke
Great video do you have any fear that the entire trucking industry will eventually go to emissions like California ..?? Just wondering what’s your opinion on that
With the incoming administration it easily could !!! The sad part is all the engine makers are pushing for it!!!! I think you will see big incentives to go electric!! Look at how far electric vehicles came in the last 10 years....

Check out JPayDirt here on UA-cam. He did a KW with a 550 accert double to single. He's running a heavy haul lowboy. He used a Switchblade Turbo. Maybe something to research for the next rebuild

There's a product call fluid film that you can spray on the frame to prevent rust and corrosion.
been going back through some videos , prob my favorite intro

Spray on liner on the tanks is awesome , give me a great line for the next extended warranty call ... Single turbo definitely ...

I love the pdi turbos an manifolds..fuel mileage is great an power is good ...
Great video. You don’t have to twist my arm to get me to subscribe. Looking forward to seeing more. Thx
All pre emission trucks are worth rebuilding. The emission equipment is horrible for requiring maintenance.
Too funny intro, thanks for the laugh!
You done right thing by single turbo set up

Gotcha. We prefer the wide bands they seem to be better
It’s funny my dad has pretty much that same exact Peterbilt same color flattop short nose etc 1990 model with a 425 Cat and a 15 speed

How u get a Rebuild and already have oil leaking from the Exhaust?
From the manifold before it sealed
@@flintcreektransport how long did it took for oil to stop leaking?
Yes it's an engine, internal combustion is an engine, motor is hydraulic or electric!
The sound cats make got me 💀💀💀
How much horsepower that red Peterbilt got
425 Cat
Did the oil stop coming out of exhaust? Because I rebuilt mine twice and its still pushing oil out of exhaust manifold..cant find the problem yet..

Every application is different .... we change ours every 15k
@@flintcreektransport got it thanks
Oil sample and replace when required, not at some random number.
Cat uses a formula based on gallons of fuel used to determine oil change interval.
12,000 to 15,000 miles
Going from twin turbos to a single turbo, what kind pf horsepower loss is common 50 of more? Justin just a guess.
Increased !!
Plus way less drive pressure than Spinning two snails C'mon 👍🏾👍🏾
