I worked for Arby's for a short while. We had a scale next to the roast beef slicer, and we weighed the amount that went onto every sandwich. If we had a high food cost, we would "fix" the scale so that we'd put less roast beef on sandwiches. That always bothered me, and I never did it. People are paying too much for too little as it is. That never sat right with me, and it was one of the many reasons I quit working there.
I can remember being around 3 years old and my mom telling me to be careful not to get scalded by the hot coffee on the stove. She told of a cousin who had been scalded and had been scarred. Putting hot coffee or even iced between my legs has never crossed my mind. BTW, that story my mom told me happened circa 1951-52.
Why do I get the feeling the same people disgusted by day old hamburger meat being used in chili are the same people screaming "online" about people going hungry and food costing too much?
I heard about the finger in the chilli as a kid around 20 years ago and I’ve hated Wendy’s ever since, only recently heard this story about the situation. I can’t be the only one who boycotted them for 20 years lol. That company seriously missed the mark on making sure the real story got out.
Weird, I worked at Arby's in 2004-05 and we had a manager chop a huge chunk of her finger off cutting tomatoes on the slicer. She screamed for two minutes as we tried to calm her down and get it wrapped up, she suddenly came to a full stop and calmly said, "We need to throw those tomatoes away." She got written up for that.
You left out when Macdonalds served kangaroo meat imported from Australia back in the 70's . At the time , Macdonalds was using the slogan-- TWO ALL BEEF PATTIES , SPECIAL SAUCE , LETTUCE , CHEESE , PICKLES , ONIONS ON A SESAME SEED BUN ( to describe the Big Mac ) This slogan was used extensively for months .Macdonalds even having contests for who could recite this slogan the fastest . When it was discovered that kangaroo meat was being mixed in with the beef , it caused quite a stir . However , instead of dropping their very successful jingle , Macdonalds simply changed the words to -- two all MEAT patties , special sauce etc etc , to avoid any false advertising lawsuits . YUM ! This inspired the joke to -- HOP ON DOWN TO MACDONALDS !!!!!
There were some legal issues regarding bull meat from Australia that had kangaroo meat in there as well. I'm not sure why that was a huge deal but the fda was not a fan of it.
I used to work at Arby's, everything were I worked was on the up and up, nothing gross, or any kind of probs at least were I worked, I still love to eat there
It's not a theory on old meat to make chili. When meat expires on when it can be served as burgers, they put it all in containers, at the end of the night they chop it up to make the chilli for the next day. I worked there in my very early 20's and as far as I know 80% of all Wendy's still do this. Some use fresh meat though. It's still good but you can taste the difference in fresh.
I'm a bit surprised that McDonald's using ammonium hydroxide in their food didn't top the list. Yes, they used small amounts of this poisonous chemical to treat their nuggets (which frequently contained chicken blood and marrow due to how it was processed). However, they started using meat that is edible without adding poison in 2012.
They're exaggerating the Wendy's chili meat quite a bit.. Yes, it's made from old burger patties, but not from "day old hamburger that were left to dry out under a heat lamp".. Basically, once a burger has surpassed it's hold time on the grill (~5-8 minutes), the patties get transferred to heated storage bins (kept at 170+ degrees), which also have a hold time (I believe 1 or 2 hours?), after which the patties get rinsed off with water, then put into bags and are frozen. When it comes time to make the chili the next morning, the frozen patties are put in a pot and are boiled for ~1 hour, afterwards they strain the water/grease, then proceed to chop the patties up into

I once ago a Filet-O-FIsh sandwich from a McDonalds that was full of fishbones. I can't remember how old I was, but I was still a kid at the time. I probably would have taken it back inside and complained about it, but the restaurant was VERY busy, (it was lunchtime on a Saturday during the Christmas shopping season), I was hungry, and I didn't want the hassle. So, I just ate the sandwich. By the time I was finished I had a pretty big pile of fish bones left over. I have had plenty of File-O-Fishes since then and have never found a single bone in any of them. It seems that it was just this one filet that managed to slip through.
LOL, I got a filet of fish once with a whole worm in it. Put me off for years. I don't get the now because it was $18.46 cents for 2 fish, small fry and a medium fountain pop.
@Fernando Gallardo This is so true Bananas are one of the most popular fruits in the world. They're full important nutrients, but eating too many could end up doing more harm than good. Too much of any single food may contribute to weight gain and nutrient deficiencies. One to two bananas per day is considered a moderate intake for most healthy people.😉
no no. no no. no no no no no no. as a former Wendy's employee, i promise the meat is NOT a day old. It meat that got burnt on the flat top before it was sold. I did it myself and i understand that it doesn't make it any better. but i hope it does for those who like burnt meat.

There's literally nothing wrong with using day old patties as long as they are properly stored and re-cooked, which they are. People are so damn wasteful.
I worked at KFC. They reuse the flour coating. Just sift the lumps of raw chicken juice clumps out at night. Raw chicken has gone in it for days. Chicken is marinated fast in tumblers then sits for up to 2 weeks in the fridge raw. Gravy is made by draining the deep fryer and scooping the crud that falls off in the frying. Freezing it then adding water and a spice/thickening powder. Deep fryers are to be drained twice a day & cleaned but are rarely cleaned. When drained the grease is put in a machine with powder chemicals to clean the grease then the grease is put back in the deep fryer. Raw chicken juice built up for years on all the equipment and fridge walls. I'll never ever eat there

So in August of 2020 at an Arby's in Salisbury, Md, I offered my 1 year old Labrador Arby Chicken fingers. I offered my hungry dog several pieces of plain not spicy. Each time she just sniffed and turned away. After, I consumed them, I just felt bloated and regretful that I even succumbed to the temptation of CHEAP PROCESSED FAST FOOD. NEVER AGAIN !!!
There were some other things left out of this video, such asa condom being found in the bottom of McDonald's fries, the chicken at Subway being only half chicken, and containing soy (Which isn't actually bad on its own due to it being pretty healthy.) and Subway filing a lawsuit against the CBC over it, which was ultimately dropped, and how Burger King mistreated its Australian franchise, known as Hungry Jack's, due to them being angry that new restaurants weren't being opened fast enough, leading to a lawsuit, and Hungry Jack's easily won the lawsuit, securing their control over the Australian market.
@Michael Terrell The alternative used at many other places is that that those old patties would be put into the freezer to be used as hamburger meat some other day.
There's nothing wrong with re-using the leftovers as long as they are handled and stored properly. I don't understand why you think it would be better to just waste all that food when there's nothing wrong with it.
I don't really know about Wendy's chili and day old beef but I know for a fact (as I am a corporate trained BK manager) that BURGER KING chili IS made from left over beef patties for the meat.
I worked at Wendy’s in 2017 a brand new one built from the ground up at that. They do indeed make their chili from old dried out meat from the day before soaked in tap water grinder into a container and stored for the next day

I've always wondered what is really in the so called meat in frozen tv dinners or in canned foods. No way are canned food and frozen entrees using top of the line grade a meat
Read the labels. Some do list soy and other plant proteins as additives. Other than that a lot of it is salvaged trimmings and low grade cuts from low grade cattle. There's parts of the cow that have muscle tissue but don't make nice cuts for steaks and roasts so are used in things like sausage, soup meat, pre-packaged ground beef, and pet foods.

A tea kettle whistles at 212 degrees. Manufacturers should not be allowed to make them anymore because it's too hot. Furthermore, stoves/ovens/microwaves should not be made and sold if they reach 190 degrees. FIRE, altogether, should be outlawed due to being too hot...causing foods and drinks to be too hot to consume. Imagine how your pots and pans must feel every time you use them. Where's the justice for the pots and pans??
The problem is at home you are pouring water from the kettle into a cup and leaving it a few minutes for the tea to steep, during which it cools back down, where as the mcdonalds coffee is going directly into a flimsy Styrofoam cup and straight into the hands of a customer. This is especially risky at a drive through window where the drink is more likely to get spilled than in store.
@@ANPC-pi9vu Nope, I drink my tea hot. With no lid, no doubt!! It's called HOT tea and HOT coffee for a reason and any idiot that doesn't understand what the word HOT means deserves to get burned. I once heard a Judge state "Ignorance is no excuse." and I believe that applies to this in every sense possible.
I worked at Wendy's for 4 years. The meat for the chili totally does come from burgers that have been on the grill so long it dries out. It set aside in a bin beside the grill, then brought to the back every 3 hours to be added to a new batch of chili.
@@lorie4913 you got to be kidding me. That is how Wendy's chili is made. There is no separate way of making chili meat from the sleeves of patties that get shipped to the stores. Wendy's chili is made with 1: canned tomato sauce 2: bags of frozen onion and bell pepper 3: chili seasonings that come in a big white bag 4: red kidney beans 5: meat from the grill, drained of grease and ground up. It's made that way every location I worked at. Every ingredient comes in a can or bag with "Wendy's" on it. You know what doesn't? The MEAT. Because it comes from the grill. To NOT use the grill patties would be extremely wasteful and expensive, so I gotta call bullshit, sorry. I don't know if you're a Wendy's location owner running damage control...or perhaps legitimately don't know this because you never had to make chili because you're a woman. Yeah, that was a thing, too: casual sexism probably still happens in most fast food places. Wendy's for example: female employees never had to do "post-rush duty" (after the lunch hour or dinner hour flood of customers clean the tables and sweep and mop the floors in dining area, clean the men AND women's restrooms, and take all the trash bags in the restaurant out to the dumpster. Post-rush was always done by a single male employee, never a woman, on either a revolving or volunteer basis), wash the potatoes, wash the dishes or make the chili. So maybe you really weren't aware of where the chili meat comes from. Now you know. And there's NOTHING WRONG WITH IT.
@@lorie4913 and if you still think I'm bs'ing you, go to a Wendy's and talk to a manager about an operational guide. A guide that tells you how to make everything in the store. On slow Saturday mornings, one of the managers would let us look through the latest revisions. I guaran-friggin'-TEE you it instructs you to use meat patties that are no longer "visually appealing" (overcooked from being on the grill too long). The grill was one of the first stations I learned. I was instructed to put down 12 Single patties, and 14 Junior patties, flipping and pressing them every 3 minutes. Customer demand is not going to be able to keep up with that by design, so you always have some meat ready to be put aside for chili, which sells like hotcakes.
@@lorie4913 Just stating how things were. Where I worked, the girls never had to do the hard stuff, so there were a lot of things they didn't know how to do. One time, they actually had to call in a sick male coworker because they couldn't TAKE OUT THE TRASH. The bags were too heavy, and only girls were working that night. Things were fairly ridiculous at times, but generally fun. Anyway, that's the only part of my rebuttal you wish to address? Not the meat (heh) of the discussion? In my experience, when you drop facts and people can only complain about the tone of your statement, your facts are impeccable. And I just found numerous sites with testimony from other Wendy's employees in other states besides mine that say, yes, chili meat comes from the grill, and that it actually makes sense to do so. I don't what you're talking about when you say "quality" as there is something wrong with this meat. It's heated TWICE to kill germs (1st on the grill, then before grinding), and all the grease and fat is boiled out of it before it's ground to be added to the chili. Why does everybody feel a need to lie about this, as if using excess burger meat from the grill is somehow unsafe or illegal?
LOL - this is amazing, but then taking a step back and realising we are talking billions of meals, even 0.1 percent is going to result in a lot of 'shite' ingredients. Not nice, but... reality bites (pun intended).
@@jeffdaigle5487 oh damn I didn’t know that and here it goes I’m thinking Subway is one of the freshest and healthiest places to eat guess they fooled me

Each time she just sniffed and turned away. After, I consumed them, I just felt bloated and regretful that I even succumbed to the temptation of CHEAP PROCESSED FAST FOOD. NEVER AGAIN !!!
the part of this video regarding the mcdonalds hot coffee incident is lifted almost word for word from adam ruins everything
@Noble Saint Yes this so true😊
@@BabbleTop and you guys are happy about that??? You know plagiarism is illegal?
I worked at Arby’s for a while. I always put extra meat on the sandwich
Actually, Wendy’s chili meat is in fact day old cooked, dried out hamburger patties that didn’t sell. I worked there in high school. I’ve seen things…
@Michael Terrell Completely true, it's done that way to help keep their never frozen beef policy in place.
@Michael Terrell The alternative used at many other places is that that those old patties would be put into the freezer to be used as hamburger meat some other day.
@SueP-D so it's really better to cook your own food, it will save you money and be healthy😉
There's nothing wrong with re-using the leftovers as long as they are handled and stored properly. I don't understand why you think it would be better to just waste all that food when there's nothing wrong with it.
@@ANPC-pi9vu No I’m not saying that.I actually love Wendy’s chili. It’s the other stuff I’ve seen 👀
I found a beak in my nugget when I was in kindergarten. It took me until like 8th grade to touch McDonald’s again 😅
The Denny’s situation is not surprising for Denny’s

Ooo human flesh and fresh human body parts yum yum! My favorite!!

When I reached "Beef Burgers Made of Horse," I had to click out of the video. Horses have served mankind for centuries, and I couldn't bear to watch the segment.
Horses belong in the winners circle, NOT the dining circle!
When I was 10 I bit in to a blood filled pocket of a chicken nugget at a McDonald’s, this was in 1995. I refused to eat McDonald’s chicken nuggets for a little over 20 years. It took me having a child to eat a chicken nugget from them again
Who cares if Wendy's uses their unused burgers. As long as the are cooked good.
Almost all commercial coffee brewers are set to 195-205 degrees for brewing. So be careful.

I've always wondered what is really in the so called meat in frozen tv dinners or in canned foods. No way are canned food and frozen entrees using top of the line grade a meat
In the frozen it is usually soy.
@@lorie4913 I had wondered that. Thanks
Do a Christmas video

I want my 14 mins back
A tea kettle whistles at 212 degrees.
Hi
I worked at Wendy's for 4 years. The meat for the chili totally does come from burgers that have been on the grill so long it dries out. It set aside in a bin beside the grill, then brought to the back every 3 hours to be added to a new batch of chili.
I personally never experienced or seen this being practiced. We were very focused on quality and freshness.
@@lorie4913 you got to be kidding me. That is how Wendy's chili is made. There is no separate way of making chili meat from the sleeves of patties that get shipped to the stores. Wendy's chili is made with
1: canned tomato sauce
2: bags of frozen onion and bell pepper
3: chili seasonings that come in a big white bag
4: red kidney beans
5: meat from the grill, drained of grease and ground up.
Wow, misogynistic much? As a manager I can assure you I have done it all.
