      It's called counterpoint and the reason classical and jazz is the most challenging (and rewarding) type of music to play.
      Rock and blues is easy for anyone playing for over 35 years like I have. There is literally nothing the vast majority of humans alive listen to that I can't play.
      Classical and jazz is the only music that challenges the ones who have already mastered the instrument. It will humble anyone. I feel like a beginner trying to tackle some of the more advanced pieces out there like Koyunbaba op. 19. It's a LONG piece but it is so rewarding it's better than any Van Halen solo or Vai or whomever you'd imagine would be fun or hard to play.

      @juanDoAs It's within the two styles, flamenco is very specifically right-hand technique, just as classical is. It is a more presto/aggressive interpretation, but once you learn it, you are back to classical and jazz.
      Flamenco is an evolution of the two styles, it doesn't stand on its own.

On a personal note I'm really happy I now realised how you pull off that amazing soft-scrape sound with your palm along the guitar - it sounds so perfect and gives the impression of a double bass and jazz drums. Honestly this is peak UA-cam, we're so blessed that someone who's passionate and studied so many techniques has composed them together in a real skillfull way and then performed it for us. It's like a TED talk of Jazz, summing up years of study in a quick digestible treat of a video. Pink Panther is pretty standard for a piano solo piece, or at least it used to be. Being as I got to guitar long, long after having played piano... it wasn't a question of "what is or isn't to be played on guitar" but "where are the notes on the strings for the song I want to play?" I didn't get very far, but I was able to plink out the melody to Not Tomorrow from Silent Hill before I gave up because practicing hurt my fingers too much. And now I have neuropathy sooo oh well! XD

    • @Woodstock271
      @Woodstock271 Рік тому +7

      @@tirsden, That’s the thing about this piece of music, it’s timeless in its intricacies. The bass starts it out and then the saxophone takes over. Snare drum played with brushes creates the “feel” of walking down the street. The forefront melody is easy enough to play on a guitar, but when I’ve done it alone, every nuance in the background is missing. It’s recognized as that Pink Panther theme but it’s weak.
      This guy somehow pulled out the sax, bass, and muted snare with just a guitar. I couldn’t do all that and wouldn’t even try.
      The piano is back there as well, but the saxophone is lead. Bass is too. Nowhere is a lead guitar so don’t hurt yourself trying.
      This song is more of a feeling than anything written on paper. Imagine what this written in tablature would look like? Indecipherable because he’s playing so many parts at once. This isn’t something to copy or write down on paper, it’s just pure musical genius.
      More personally, I’m sorry to hear about your neuropathy. That’s gotta suck. I was a rockstar in my youth and very healthy but time tells me something will give out sooner or later. I hope it’s not hand/mind coordination but it could be one day. It could be anything that limits me from being young again. I won’t sell my guitars though, and I won’t dust them off as they hang on the wall, mostly for memories and to annoy anyone who doesn’t understand. Take care my friend.

    I grew up in Nashville but never cared for most of the music produced here. When I learned to play guitar in 1964 (after seeing The Beatles) I mostly learned from other guys who were just picking it up. I became pretty good for Top 40 and Rock lead guitar guy but got stumped by a few songs. I had access to some of the best guitarists in Nashville and it was my good fortune. Leon Rhodes was, at heart, a jazz guitarist and took the time to teach me. Billy Sanford and Billy Grammer were so kind to sit with me and go over a song like "Blackbird." It had some classical chord progressions which were far above my skill level. I will never forget them and hope other great musicians take the time to teach young people whether they are serious about a career in music or just having fun. Lucas Brar is pretty darned amazing. I spent an evening long ago in Leon Rhodes basement in awe of Lenny Breau. This video reminded me of that magic time in my life. Thank you sir.

    First: always loved the pink panther cartoons, and that absolutely iconic theme was like bells to Pavlov's dogs every time I heard it-- couldn't get to the TV fast enough (or tell everyone in the room to shut up). Never imagined this played on a single guitar before this, totally floored you nailed it! Not hard to see how difficult that was to play-- masterpiece! Thank you for this, Lucas!

    So glad this wound up in my recommendations again a year later. Everything I said in my comment a year ago remains true, but this is more interesting now because nobody has tried to surpass this rendition on a classical guitar since then. In my opinion, it simply can’t be surpassed on this instrument. Lucas nailed this and it’s simply his. Nobody dares touch it.
    I wish I played a song so well people were afraid to copy it. Or more accurately, just respect it too much to try.
    I mean, look at those crazy chords?! Nobody in their right mind is going to try and top this, plus, they’d have to figure out every nuance and jazzy rhythm involved here! Nobody’s gonna do that. It’s his. It’s his piece. It’s beautiful.
