No matter how good it may be it does not justify a price tag of $10700.I currently own a gpx 4000 bought it when it first come out about eight years ago.At first it was exciting I was finding bits and pieces largest at 12 grams and total of about three ounces. Now if I sell my detector and the nuggets I won't be able recover the cost of the detector which cost over $6000 + accessories.Since then gpx 4500,4800 5000 came out and cleaned out the gold fields of Victoria.I'm a part time prospector and I couldn't find a speck of gold in the last two years. Now this new detector with it's astronomical price tag still doesn't tell you if the target is 100% gold.Since the easy surface gold is pretty much gone and you can detect deeper bust your balls digging and not knowing if it's going to be gold. They might as well include a backhoe to dig those deep holes.I believe minelab does this on purpose to suck us prospectors in and introduce a new model which they probably had the technology years ago.Sorry not buying it.
Thank you Minelab and Bruce Candy, without you guys we would not be able to traverse the goldfields and find these beautiful gold nuggets. Your machines are worth every penny we spend on them. Neil.
Is this detector only for gold? Approximately how deep it can detect? Will it work on rocky terrain?? I needed one to detect buried treasure, any recommendation?
Why does it have two independent receiver coils (side-by-side) instead of only one? Does the signal/audio from each left/right coil feed stereo sound into the left/right speakers of the headphones?

No Dustin, at the time I dug the .44 cal. Pistol bullet I didn't have a tape measure, so you could say I was guessing, but I put my hand and arm down into the hole and my chin hit the dirt! I am 6' 2" tall! Not sure if that helps, a guy sitting in a truck was watching me and said he couldn't believe I dug that Deep for a pistol bullet. I got a question for you, what kind of a detector do you use, you seem to know a lot about detecting? Have you ever hunted a Civil War site in Va.?
Is there 1 single thing in the tones or display that can distinguish a iron target from a good target? All I really need is a slight variation in sound or the duration of it or any kind of target ID on the screen. As a relic hunter I swing the DD coil on the 5000 most of the time but use the Mono coil to go back over areas with deep targets and minimal iron. The Mono coils go the deepest as I'm sure most gold hunters know. If I use the mono coil enough I can start figuring out the iron targets. Mainly because like with the DD iron doesn't pinpoint well and tends to end up in the sidewall. So if you circle it short swinging over the target it moves if it's iron. There's also a slight variation in the length of the tone. That being said sense this is new technology I have no idea if there will be any slight variations that I can pickup on. I rent out high end detectors and already have 8 GPX's and 2 CTX's. I would like to add one of these to my rental fleet but just can't get enough questions answered or better yet get 1 in my hand and swing it.
I don't think you could be any more vague on the capable depth this can detect. So it detects up to 40% deeper... COMPARED TO WHAT??? How deep was the detector that you comparing it to detecting?
Hi Glen, Check out the Minelab website for more info on the GPZ 7000. There's some Knowledge Base Articles that give more details on the depth capabilities www.minelab.com/anz/knowledge-base/knowledge-base-articles Regards, Minelab
Looks Great, but I am a Relic Hunter from the US, I already dig .44 Caliber Civil War bullets at two feet with my GPX 4500! Does this detector come with a Backhoe? Also how well will it do on relics, such as 3 ringers, US & CS plates and so on, that's our Gold!
(.44 Caliber Civil War bullets at (two feet) with my GPX 4500!) Seriously Dennis, what am I doing wrong? My deepest bullets are pushing 20" and they're .69's
HUH Dustin, my first bullet I dug with my GPX 4500 was at two feet and it was a .44 caliber pistol bullet! I found it at Coles Hill, that same hunt I dug a 2nd Corps badge also.
Garrett ATX cost about $2,150 and Minelab GPZ 7000 costs about $8,000. Minelab representative comment below says, "We don't think there are too many ATX's finding a great amount of gold in the mineralised gold fields of Australia." Is this true? Does the Garrett ATX have issues with mineralised ground?
Thanks for your message. The GPZ 7000 uses the new Minelab ZVT technology and offers superior performance to any other detector on the market today specially when used in mineralised ground. It is a premium Gold detector, hence the price point. You can find more information on the GPZ 7000 and ZVT technology here: www.minelab.com/usa/metal-detectors/gold-detectors/gpz-7000. Cheers,
Hello there. The Quick-trak button is for ground balancing so you don't need to hold it to find gold. Please refer to page 27 of the Instruction Manual: www.minelab.com/__files/f/255140/4901-0176-2%20Inst%20Manual%20GPZ%207000%20EN.pdf
What I understand from this video is that it ONLY goes deeper by up to 40% when compared to a GPX 5000 with an 11" coil (remembering the GPZ 7000 comes out with a 14" coil). It only goes 25% deeper when compared to GPX 5000 with a similar coil size - i.e. 15x12" coil. So unless it come out with an optional 18" coil (that will be hitting 25% deeper than GPX 5000 with the same coil) it has no real advantage (depth-wise) on the larger slugs, other than coil being lighter and easier to handle.
