      Joe's subjective input is important to me, I've been listening to him for several years now, I know the man to be honest in the past.
      Most reviewers don't do measurements, this sets Joe classes ahead. Joe then adds a leaderboard and sound demos. I think this objectively makes Joe the best reviewer on UA-cam.
      Cheapaudioman is becoming my second fave, followed by Steve G, Thomas, next best thing, zero fi and new record day.

    Thank you for putting this review together Joe. I feel like we don't get as many product reviews from you these days, and I always appreciate your straight-forward thoughts on what you heard and experienced. I hope we see more product launches like this as well. YT has to be the largest audience available to manufacturers today, and probably the most cost effective too! I think some of these companies may have a fear of the changing landscape? In today's audio market you have to be more visible, and provide a clear value to the consumer. The high-end producers of "audiophile jewelry" don't really fit into the new market with today's target audience, and if they can't adapt they may not make it too much longer. Big props to Polk for this launch and let's hope other manufacturers are watching! Thanks Joe

    Excellent video as always. I do like the rounded speaker edges with matching grill and the charcoal black color. Looks like you matched your shirt color to coordinate with the speaker colors, charcoal black. I believe it was a strategic choice to reinforce the pleasing palate of the speakers like when a realtor puts out a fresh baked plate of chocolate chip cookies at an open house. Combining multiple senses and playing on the powerful psychological effect that sensory stacking has on the mind.

    Great review as usual! I am a headphone user, has a few DACs, Head Amps which can be pre-amps. I am a dummy on speakers Hi Fi setup and was considering the R700 but don’t have the space for it (my Work Room space is 3.65 L x 2.51 W x 2.48 H in meters
    or 11’11” L x 8’2” W x 8’1” after deducting the rows of book shelves and my work desk at the end of the room) so I am recommended the R200. All reviews I saw are favorable for this speaker.
    This pair of speakers will be on my new work desk in my Work Room at home first for music listening purposes, I may add a subwoofer or 2 as I like soundstage, musically clear and warmer sounds. My LG sound bar is not meeting expectations so if the R200 can fit the little space I have on each side of my tv and can be placed on the console, that’s when I’d consider making it into a home-theatre-like setup. I will then get the Centre, upward firing Atmos and surround speakers for a Home-Theatre-like setup. To anyone who can help me, I need your advices for these questions:
    1. R200 with 1 or 2 subwoofer? Brand and model please?
    2. Amplifiers and/or other equipments for the above?
    3. Which Centre and surround speakers to get if turning into a Atmos/DTX-S “Home-Theatre” (it’s just or living room, not a dedicated big room for real Home Theatre)?
    4. Which amplifier, brand and model should I get if I am doing (1), (2), and (3) above?
    5. What other equipments do I need?
    Too bad I live in a country where I can’t just purchase something and then return because I don’t like it.

      I can see what you're saying regarding the downward sloping target curve that is recommended. The tough thing for me is that the recommended target curve is up for debate. I think Amir's might be based on Olive's research, but I've talked to Paul Barton from PSB (worked with Floyd Toole at NRCC) who created the NAD target curve and he doesn't think that slope is correct based on his research. DIRAC has their target and Audyssey has theirs. So who am I to specify the correct target?

    In polk's defense, the wharfdale 12.1 would probably compete more against the r100 since the woofer size in those are closer in size. Or the r200 would compete more in line with the 12.2.

      @@joentell Polk L400 is an example. So what I mean by that is you have two bass drivers (big M) with a tweeter above a smaller midrange driver (little m). Pretty much it reduces the lobbing effect traditionally get from MTM designs because the center of the tweeter and the midrange woofer overlap. It's pretty much the next best thing to coaxial drivers.

      That tweeter is made by Tymphany, under the Peerless or Scan Speak brand name, depending on the particular model. The only versions that I've seen with that center plug are the Scan Speak models, but they also have a much larger faceplate & magnet assembly than these. These look like the smaller Peerless version with the Scan Speak phase plug added to it. They're very nice tweeters, but they're different sounding than a conventional dome. Very low distortion as well as reduced off axis response. That combines to provide a dry, but very accurate sounding tweeter.

    You and Youthman will be doing ads for Polk Audio...an ad is an endorsement of a product, how are we to trust these reviews are objective if you're partnering with the manufacturer to sell these?

    • @joentell
      @joentell  3 роки тому +1

      Glad you asked. Technodad is also partnered with us at Daily HiFi and also doing an ad.
      How can you trust our videos? Because an ad is an ad and we all know from many years of watching TV what an ad is. There's no confusion between an ad and a review. But there is confusion if the relationship is not disclosed. If we have business relationships with companies and we don't tell you, that's a problem. The solution is transparency.
      Our ad will play on different videos for non-conflicting products. The ad won't play on a Polk or Sound United review, but it also won't be o a Klipsch speaker review for example.
      I can do an ad for a company and in my review, I can say it sucks. I'm allowed to do that and we require companies to agree to that. Was I not at all critical in my video? I was! I watched all of the other reviews of the speakers in this line. I saw other reviews that were more raving than mine and I didn't see a "paid sponsorship" on any of their videos. Based on that, if I assume they don't receive any form of compensation, and I do, then why is my review more critical than theirs? That seems counterintuitive doesn't it?
      The only reason you maybe asking is because we correctly checked the box that said "paid endorsement" even though we didn't get paid for this review. In fact, our policy is that our reviews are free. Also, we verbally made you aware of our business relationship. I also said in the video that if you find out later that what I've said about this product is untrue, I want you to check me. Check me if I'm wrong.
      I'm not hiding. When you have integrity, there's nothing to hide.

    • @Njabuloseh
      @Njabuloseh 3 роки тому +8

      @@joentell Nobody is confusing an ad with a review and transparency is one thing...but let's be clear about the purpose of an advert, it is to sell the product being advertised. There's a clear conflict of interest if a reviewer does a review of a product and does adverts for that same manufacturer...there's very little that distinguishes you from a Polk Audio salesman.

    • @joentell
      @joentell  3 роки тому +4

      All I can tell you is that if you have the level of integrity that will allow you to get paid while remaining honest in the face of possibly losing out on future business, then you will understand where I'm coming from. If any form of compensation would shake your integrity, then you would never believe me anyway because it isn't what you would do. So where do we stand? If Polk never wanted to work with me because I didn't want to promote a crappy product, I would be totally cool with that. OSD is a channel sponsor and look at my review of the original Trevoce 12 subwoofer. Was that a glowing review? It doesn't even rank higher than other brands on my subwoofer leaderboard bit.ly/subwooferleaderboard . I thought their Nero Studio bookshelf speaker was terrible. Shall I continue? I can say whatever I want and I will say whatever I want. You must be new to my channel if you didn't know thay. Feel free to watch the Daily HiFi podcast where we really let loose.
      Luckily, a lot of the products coming out are actually good. Negative reviews are really hard to do. I thought my recent review of the Sound Artist LS3/5a was pretty negative and I got that speaker sent to me for free. When you have, boxes of speakers taking up all your living space, believe me, the last thing you want is another speaker.
