JBL just did it, and CerwinVega! Is coming out with a new one this year. I think there is a market for the old school large woofer floor stander if done right. One of the big problems is the cost of shipping and storage of such a large cabinet.
I have some Polk's I got in 1994 LS90'S and the center and LSFX surround speakers. I recently hooked up an upstairs theater and broke out the Polk's and they're good to go. It's 15 or more years since I used them.
The ring radiator tweeter is very interesting. As much as I like bass and midrange - it very often comes down to the tweeter. This type of design gives a bit more area to move air with a bit less effort - but still maintains wider dispersion up higher, because it acts close to a point source. The woofer "turbine" ribs are functional, apparently; and the port does also appear to have a sophisticated tuning design - it's not just a flared tube.
I'm a life long Polk fan, I bought a set of SDA CRS speakers in 1985. That was 36 years ago, since then I've bought the 2 sets of the T-15's, a set if T-50's, a T-30 center channel, a set of S15's, and a PSW-10 subwoofer. The SDA CRS speakers still sound like I bought them yesterday although I did just replace the electrolytic capacitors but I'm not sure I can tell the difference. As much as I love them I can't help feeling like I would have loved a house full of Klipsch speakers, just as much. I have to say that a set of speakers that no only last but still are clear, and will rock the neighborhood that are 36 years old is an accomplishment that many speaker makers would envy.
Wow! Very impressed with how this one played out! Very cool to see Polk made a speaker like this to compete with the sea of good speakers in this price range. Awesome review, Randy! As always, the way you review equipment is my favorite! God bless, brother!
The Polk T15 stands are great. They even look like speakers! But seriously, I do plan on buying the R200's to displace my current bookshelf setup of upgraded Polk Monitor40 Series II's. Great review, as usual. Thanks for the laughs.
The Polk Reserve series is so great, even the small speakers, the R100 bookshelf and the R500 tower are still very impressive. For small rooms, the R100 is a strong alternative to the smallest speakers by KEF, Q, Cambridge Audio and many others.
Lovely review; especially loved the references to songs, specific moments, and how they performed. Very keen to check these out. Also appreciated the comparative notes to the Signature series, as I'm familiar with them.
Ron on New Record Day confirmed that everyone had their reviews ready, and the embargo on releasing it ended today. Happens on occasion, and NDAs are no joke for reviewers.
Thanks Randy, really enjoyed the debut and review of the Polk Reserve series. They look really good and the sound should be great, but I think the S20's are doing really good for what I like.
I have never been a fan of polk but I bought the lsim 705 ($700 a piece) and I'm seriously impressed. They are being bi amped with about 700 quality wpc and sound amazing. Needless to say after a dozen different speakers over the last month they are staying along with the elac uni5.2. I hope you get to try the lsim 703s if you haven't.
I’ve suggested the same to Randy several weeks ago. I got a pair of 703,s at the close out price of $600. I consider it my best speaker purchase of all time.
@@plaubelmakina8916 I got a pair at $450, the price kept dropping on Adorama. They’re okay speakers - good for that price, they don’t really compete with my more expensive speakers. Something about their tonality just seems off to me. I don’t think Randy should bother reviewing them since they’re no longer sold at that price anywhere.
Awesome review! These look to be an excellent speaker. While I agree that Signature and Rti speakers have faults, the TSI series seems to be very strong in performance. Most likely why the entire TSI line is being sold again on Amazon and Crutchfield, and other stores. Now that the Reserve line is out, it offers a good route for upgrading. I appreciated your review of the TSI100 speakers. I have them now and am very impressed with these inexpensive speakers. I love their imaging where the speakers just disappear and even their punchy midbass and smooth treble. I also love their more neutral character opposed to the S and Rti series. Glad that Polk is offering another high performance speaker line that is within reach of most people. The Legend and LSIm series were out of 'reasonable' reach of many.
Nice. Great review! Yeah that other guy that reviewed the towers I'm actually kind of interested in those to clean up my system I could be fine with those.

Already ahead of you. Talked to Polk and they said they’d get me an R200 but it would probably be a while as there are some other folks that have requested it and are in line first.
Bought the Polk S20s after watching your review on them. You are spot on. Those things will punch you in the chest, make you feel them, and blow you away in a very good way when you push them a bit. My analogy is the S20s are like an old school American muscle car. Like a '69 Pontiac GTO. You can feel the rumble. Curious as to what volume you test speakers at? A little bit of low, medium, and see how they respond when you push them, maybe?

The ring radiator tweeter is very interesting. As much as I like bass and midrange - it very often comes down to the tweeter. This type of design gives a bit more area to move air with a bit less effort - but still maintains wider dispersion up higher, because it acts close to a point source.
The woofer "turbine" ribs are functional, apparently; and the port does also appear to have a sophisticated tuning design - it's not just a flared tube.
The ring radiator also pushes breakup modes well above 20khz. The turbine ribs are great engineering. Increases cone rigidity without adding mass.
